This study focused on game physics, an area of computer game design where physics is applied in interactive computer software. The purpose of the re- search was a fresh analysis of game physics in order to prove that its current usage is limited and requires advancement. The investigations presented in this dissertation establish constructive principles to advance game physics design. The main premise was that transdisciplinary approaches provide sig- nificant value. The resulting designs reflected combined goals of game devel- opers, artists and physicists and provide novel ways to incorporate physics into games. The applicability and user impact of such new game physics across several target audiences was thoroughly examined. In order to explore the transdisciplinary nature of the premise, valid evidence was gathered using a broad range of theoretical and practical methodologies. The research established a clear definition of game physics within the context of historical, technological, practical, scientific, and artistic considerations. Game analysis, literature reviews and seminal surveys of game players, game developers and scientists were conducted. -

Tiivistelmä – Abstract This research figures out, how the concept of independent games and independent game production is understood in the field of game industry. Some comparisons are made to music and movie industry, using literature and different internet sources to find out commonly used definitions for independent concept on different areas of entertainment business. Three level definition for independent productions is formed, mainly from the commerce point of view - independent, semi-independent and non-independent games and producers. Second part of this research is a quantitative genre comparison between non-independent games and independent games. For the use of the genre research, a study of game genres is made and basen on that, a game genre systemi is produced. Main finding of the quantitative research is, that independent game genre distribution is different in the case of non-independent games, but there are a lot of similarities within both non-independent and -

This interdisciplinary study shows that because of the changing demands from consumer caused by the growing influence of the internet and file-sharing the Nordic Gaming industry is going through an economic evolution. This result was derived by using qualitative questionnaires directed towards Gaming industry decision makers in the Nordic region combined with critical discourse analysis based on the methodology of Norman Fairclough, using theories of different characters to understand the field. In this thesis the case of the Nordic Gaming industry is used to assert that because of changing demands of consumers and an ever growing piracy movement, societies are evolving into transitional economies where it is increasingly harder to sell products consisting of pure information. THQ Nordic Acquires Bugbear Entertainment
Karlstad (Sweden), November 14, 2018 THQ Nordic acquires Bugbear Entertainment THQ Nordic AB is today announcing that it has acquired 90% of the shares in Bugbear Entertainment Ltd. ("Bugbear") with an option to acquire the remaining 10% in the future. Bugbear, a Helsinki-based independent studio with 18 team members developing racing games, is currently working on the critically acclaimed Wreckfest. The acquisition includes the development studio and all intellectual property rights. THQ Nordic values Bugbear as an experienced and world leading creator of niched racing games built on their proprietary game engine enabled with vehicle destruction physics tools. Wreckfest, a demolition derby themed racing title, was successfully released for PC in June 2018 and is currently being further developed to be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One during 2019. Bugbear is also well known for the critically acclaimed demolition derby series FlatOut, released for PC and consoles during 2004-2007. THQ Nordic has since 2017 acted as publisher for Wreckfest, which has been the best performing game published by THQ Nordic on Steam since its June release. THQ Nordic strongly believes in Bugbear’s competence in developing successful action racing games and wants to make long term investments to support Bugbear’s future growth journey. The acquisition of Bugbear is also THQ Nordic’s first step into the Finnish market, often rated among the world leaders in game development and THQ Nordic foresees further strategic investments in owned studios and/or publishing deals going forward. Both parties have agreed upon not disclosing the exact purchase price. However the purchase price matches management’s estimated royalty payments to Bugbear during the upcoming three years. -
