TABLE OF CONTENTS & HISTORY has been manufacturing innovative, high-performance painting tools right out of Wooster, Ohio USA since 1851. Our primary factory and headquarters have been located in the city of Wooster for our entire history. Company founder Adam Foss traveled from Pennsylvania to Ohio to set up shop. He began producing handmade bristle paintbrushes from a small, two-story building on Wooster’s main square, and then sold the brushes door-to-door throughout the state. Over 160 years later, the company has grown to 888,000 square feet of manufacturing, shipping, administrative, and Table of Contents warehousing facilities. That’s what over 160 years of experience will do for you. If a painter wants it, Wooster has it. You’ll find them all here, described in detail and ready for the job. Q. What is the difference between “sash” brushes? A. The angle sash is by far the most common. It features a 14-degree end that adds control while edging, especially on vertical surfaces like around windows or doors. The thin angle sash has a narrower and lighter angled head than the angle sash. It adds precision for lines and small areas. The flat sash is designed with a straight end, which is especially useful for baseboards, mouldings, or horizontal surfaces. All sash brushes have long, thin handles that are easy to turn, provide balance, and allow extra reach. The choice between styles is a matter of personal preference. They perform well while painting smooth to rough surfaces in any weather, even heat and humidity. Professional Brushes FILAMENT GRADE CHARACTERISTICS Very durable, resists wear on rough surfaces. Lasts 5 times longer than bristle, 2 times longer than polyester. Tips very precisely for a smooth, professional finish. A Cleans completely and easily. Nylon Softens in hot weather or prolonged use in latex paint. ™ All the positive qualities of nylon, plus more stiffness. Exclusively from Wooster in Ultra/Pro® Extra-Firm brushes. A+ Solid and tapered with a unique shape for added durability. Maintains stiffness in heat and humidity, excellent control. NylonPlus ™ ® Maintains stiffness for control, resists heat and humidity. Lasts 7 times longer than natural bristle. A+ Perfect balance of paint pickup and release. Cleans completely and easily. Chinex DuPont Combines positive qualities of nylon and polyester. Polyester used in short lengths to add stiffness and control. A- Nylon used in long lengths for precise tipping, smooth finish. Nylon/ Depending on the polyester content, takes some time to clean. Polyester Chemically tipped for excellent leveling and smoothing ability. ™ Thin, soft filaments virtually eliminate brushmarks. Does not carry or release a lot of paint, less production. CT B+ Takes some time to clean. Polyester Does not absorb water, resists heat and softening. Lasts 2½ times longer than natural bristle. Can’t be precisely tipped, tends to leave brushmarks. C Difficult to clean. Polyester Test for Taper: See It & Feel It Tapered filament helps paint flow for better coverage. It “pumps the paint” out and down to the surface. It also gives shape to the brush for precise cutting-in. Look at the brush edgewise. If it comes to a point, it has taper and will provide more control. Untapered or level filament reduces the price of the brush, but it also sacrifices capacity, coverage, and control. It won’t release paint like tapered filament. If the thickness of a brush feels the same from base to tip, it is untapered. It lacks the performance of a brush with tapered filaments. Wooster was the first company on the record books to manufacture the angle sash brush style! Lindbeck is the registered name applied to many Wooster angled brushes. The trademark, established in October 1937, was named for its originator, H. T. Lindbeck. Mr. Lindbeck was a painting contractor 2 and author, well-known throughout the trade, who conducted field tests for Wooster for many years.
