WHAT IS BALTIMORELINK? BaltimoreLink is a complete overhaul and rebranding of the core transit system operating within Baltimore City and the surrounding region. Many of MTA’s current bus routes are outdated, and BaltimoreLink will improve service through a more reliable and efficient network. BaltimoreLink also includes transfer facilities, dedicated bus lanes, signal priority, and improved bus stop signs, among many other improvements. To deliver an interconnected transit network, existing MTA bus and rail services will be restructured and renamed: • CityLink: Twelve new high-frequency, color-coded bus routes will connect with each other, as well as Metro SubwayLink, Light RailLink, MARC Train, Commuter Bus, Amtrak, and other services, into one integrated transit network. • LocalLink (currently Local Bus): LocalLink routes will provide comprehensive crosstown connections and improved connections to neighborhoods and communities throughout the system. • Express BusLink (currently Express Bus): Express BusLink will include several existing Express Bus services that provide suburb-to- city connections and recently launched routes providing suburb-to-suburb connections. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA CONTACTS: Gary Witherspoon Brittany Marshall Office: 240-825-4629 Office: 410-767-8367 Cell: 443-801-4318 Cell: 443-970-0424 [email protected] [email protected] MDOT MTA Purple Line Celebrates Winners of Elementary School Art Contest First-Place Selections to be Displayed on Banners Along 16-Mile Purple Line Corridor RIVERDALE, MD (January 21, 2020) – Students from four elementary schools who turned images of the Purple Line rail project into award-winning art will have their work reproduced on banners displayed at project sites near their schools, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) announced. “There are many talented, young artists in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, and it’s exciting to see the project through their eyes,” said Jeff Ensor, director of the $5.6 billion Purple Line project for MDOT MTA. “It was difficult to select the winners because of the quality of all the entries.” This past fall, third graders from seven elementary schools along the Purple Line’s 16-mile corridor were invited to participate in the art contest. Students were asked to draw either a colorful picture of themselves and their families on the light rail or what they saw during Purple Line construction. Four schools took part and produced 140 pieces of art. Purple Line staff reviewed and selected the first-place artwork, one from each of the schools: http://bit.ly/38og1Y0. Glenridge, Langley Park-McCormick, Riverdale and Woodlin elementary schools participated in the contest. Lesli Leath, a senior community liaison with the Purple Line project and contest organizer, said the winners were selected based on “originality, vibrancy and authenticity.” “Clearly, there’s real artistic talent in schools along the Purple Line corridor,” she said. -

MDOT Consolidated Transportation Program Reductions MDOT’s draft 6-year Consolidated Transportation Program (CTP) for FY2021-2026. shows a $2.9 billion reduction over the last 6-year plan • While the cuts are distributed across MDOT modes, Maryland’s contribution to WMATA is 100% funded for capital and operating (as of 9-25-20) • $150 million in cuts to MTA on top of last year’s $303 million reduction to the 6-year CTP will further impact the failing transit network in the Baltimore region • Cuts to system preservation budgets for all MDOT modes has a longer term fiscal impact on our transportation network. -

LocalLink These operate on neighborhood streets between the CityLinks and form crosstown “rings.” Express BusLink These offer limited-stop service between outlying areas and downtown. In Spring 2016 an express beltway “ring” was also created for the first time ever! Components of a Frequent Transit Network New Frequent Service Current Frequent Service Dramatic Expansion in Accessibility (will remain under B-Link) The new network offers frequent service to 30% MORE PEOPLE across the region: note the new “spokes and rings” at right! TDM Resource Guide & Strategic Mktg Plan Final Report 12-16-14 Page 3 BACKGROUND The Washington metropolitan region initiated its first formal transportation demand management efforts in the early 1970s with Commuter Club, which was established by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), the General Services Administration, and the Greater Washington Board of Trade to provide basic ridematching for carpools and vanpools. In subsequent years, the program grew into a COG-coordinated network of local rideshare agencies, and in 1989, it became the Ride Finders Network which provided free information and computerized ride matching services to area residents seeking to join car or vanpools or locate appropriate transit arrangements and park-and-ride locations. In 1996, the regional network was renamed Commuter Connections. In 1997, Commuter Connections expanded its services to include regional telework assistance and resources, its first website, a regional Guaranteed Ride Home program, information on bicycling to work, InfoExpress commuter information kiosks, and free assistance to employers for the development and implementation of alternative commute programs and benefits. In 1998 Commuter Connections began to honor employers in the region through the Employer Recognition Awards program. In 2000, Commuter Connections rolled out Bike to Work Day as a regional entity, initially started as a DC based event by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. In 2003, Commuter Connections expanded its marketing efforts through the implementation of a regional mass marketing measure. The purpose of the measure was to brand the Commuter Connections name as the umbrella organization for commuter transportation information in the Washington Metropolitan area and to subsequently increase the use of alternative forms of commuting. -
