Science Technology Engineering Maths Initial Fitmedia Interim Fitness Impact Report (Full Report Available on request)

Year 4 In 2018, Rackets Cubed began a year long educational and • Evidenced improvement in overall fitness across this group physical activity intervention project for selected pupils from • Pronounced improvements for this age group in lower and upper body strength Sacred Heart Primary School. • Pronounced improvement for boys in this age group in agility and upper body strength • Pronounced improvements for girls in this age group in lower and upper body strength The intervention is targeted at pupils from Years 4 and 5 to help improve their health, fitness and basic maths skills.

In November 2018, Fitmedia were invited to carry out an initial assessment of the children's fitness levels, in order to gain a baseline assessment of their current fitness.

This baseline testing was summarized as “Test 1”. The testing comprised the following: • Standing Long Jump – to test the children’s lower body strength • Illinois Agility Run – to test the children's speed, coordination and agility • Handgrip test - to test the children's upper body strength.

The testing was then repeated in March 2019 (“Test 2”). Once again, the children undertook the four tests and the results analysed. This report summarises those results and compares them directly with the results of Test 1.

Fitmedia then analyzed the scores from the tests using its unique benchmarking system. Year 5 The key points are probably as follows: • Evidenced improvement in object control skills and upper body strength • Pronounced improvement for boys and girls in object control skills • Pronounced improvement for boys in object control skills, lower and upper body strength • Improvement in girls in object control skills and upper body strength

The improvement in the girls is particularly impressive, as Year 5/6 is traditionally the stage at which girls tend to lose interest in physical activity due to increased academic and social pressures.
