The event was hugely successful. Obituaries Dave Dewees by Russ Lemcke, Bob Ottaviano with material from CapeCodTimes.com Dr. David Dewees, of Falmouth MA, passed away on March 11 at the age of 88. Dave founded the Cape Cod Curling Club with his wife Anne in 1969, bringing the then little-known sport to Cape Cod. He pursued establishing curling for many years, learning, playing and teaching with a passion. The Cape Cod Curling Club is now a thriving recreational addition to Falmouth and greater Cape Cod, with approximately 300 members, who were his “curling family.” The popular “Summer Bonspiel” started the same year the club was founded, and it has since grown to one of the largest off-season bonspiels in the world. As president of Cape Cod for the first 10 years, he convinced a donor to build a dedicated facility and kept a small group of curlers together through difficult economic times. He served as GNCC president from 1988 to 1999, during which time he visited every area club on at least one occasion. With his guidance, the club brought female membership to the administration of the GNCC. In 1984, he was a member of the Massachussetts State Championship team that went on to compete in the Nationals. Through Dave’s record of dedication to the sport, he was chosen to be in the Scot’s tour in 1992, and in 2002 he was awarded the Collie Campbell award by the trustees of the Ross Tarleton Canadian/US competition. Cape Cod members are determined to carry on his vision for the sport he loved so much. Paul Mort, Jr. adapted from CapeNews.net Paul R. Mort Jr., a resident of East Falmouth since 1998 who became an ambassador for the sport of curling, died at home July 9 after a long illness. He was 86. In the early 1970s, Paul and his wife Isabelle took up the sport of curling in Ardsley, New York. After Paul retired in 1998, they moved to East Falmouth, mainly for the town’s vibrant curling community. He became a strong advocate for the sport, holding officer roles in the GNCC and accompanying the US Men’s Senior Tour to Scotland in 2002. “He was an enthusiastic supporter of the sport,” said his daughter, Elizabeth Mort Calcagni. “He shared his enthusiasm with anybody who would listen.” Isabelle echoed that sentiment, saying, “He enjoyed talking about curling to everybody.” In 2004, he was a member of the curling team from Cape Cod that won the “Dr. Jim” medal at the 24th annual Northeast Seniors Curling Bonspiel held in Ardsley-on-Hudson, New York. Published: 15 June 2020 Abstract: Tennis racket manufacturers rely on subjective assessments from testers during the development process. However, these assessments often lack validity and include multiple sources of inconsistency in the way testers make subjective ratings. The purpose of this research was to investigate the suitability of the free-choice profiling (FCP) method in combination with principle component analysis (PCA) and multiple factor analysis (MFA) to determine the sensory profile of rackets. FCP was found to be a suitable technique to quickly evaluate the sensory profile of rackets; however, consumer testers tended to use ill-defined, industry-generated terms, which negatively impacted discrimination and inter-rater agreement. Discrimination and inter-rater agreement improved for attributes referring to measurable parameters of the rackets, such as vibration. This study furthers our understanding of tennis racket feel and supports racket engineers in designing new subjective testing methods, which provide more meaningful data regarding racket feel. After a disappointing ninth place finish in Sochi, USA Curling held a combine for the country’s best curlers, meant to identify 10 athletes who would be asked to be on the high performance team. When the team was announced, Shuster’s name wasn’t on the list. The three-time Olympian was crushed. Jilted by the governing body, denounced by fans during the Sochi Games, Shuster was at a common crossroads in sports and in life: accept defeat and find something else to do or work even harder and earn his spot back on the team. He did what great competitors do. He reached down deep and put together a team of his peers that were also cast aside and got back to work at the rink. “People coined us Team Rejects,” he told the West Fargo Pioneer. Soon enough, the rejects started to win. First, they won the 2015 national championship, defeating all those who had made the USA Curling Team. Team Shuster went on to finish fifth at the world championships later that year. After Team Shuster’s success, USA Curling saw the promise and brought all four members of Team Shuster back into the fold. The results kept on coming for Team Shuster: a bronze medal at the 2016 World Championships, the U.S.

And you think you know why, right? But a lot of good things are happening right now over there, literally as we speak. And the Olympics really helped to bring it all together. It was a big help. So just in that respect, it was something very terrific. Through sheer drive and dedication and commitment, you've risen to the top of your fields and the highest levels of your sports. You overcame setbacks, you powered through obstacles, and you never, ever quit.

According to an article published in Men’s Fitness Magazine: You'll need a racquet, an opponent, a ball, and an enclosed court—most colleges and large gyms have them. Alternate hitting the ball off the front wall until someone loses the point.
