1 Live and Let Die is a adventure. Do you know the names of any other James Bond stories? Do you know when these books were written? Have you seen any of the James Bond films? Which actors have played the secret agent, James Bond? Do you have a favourite? Now read page 5 of the book to check your answers.

6 ‘The Secatur, or what was left of her, was at the bottom of the sea in the bay, and police divers were on their way from Kingston. News reporters had heard about the explosion and there was now a police guard at Beau Desert to keep them away.’ (page 85).

Imagine that you are a news reporter writing about the explosion. You have not been able to interview Bond, but you have found out that: • the Secatur exploded • the Secatur belonged to a well-known gangster, Mr Big • the boat was being used to smuggle Bloody Morgan’s coins from the Isle of Surprise and these coins were being sold in Harlem and Miami.

Write an article for your newspaper saying what you think happened.

7 Imagine that you are the director making the film version of Live and Let Die. Choose one scene from the story and give details of the following: • where the scene takes place and how this should look in the film • the characters: what they do in the scene and any feelings they should show • clothes / costume for each actor • instructions for the camera operators, including what they should focus on • any music, sound effects, other special effects or stunts needed for the scene.
