About the Theme: The history of human civilization has had been very much impregnated with the history of environmental exploitation. With the advancement of time human beings modified the environment to suit them better. Though the temporal and spatial variability in the degree of environmental changes are obvious. The different social and economic structures have developed during different stages of human civilization with varying environmental impact. The burning issues like climate change and global warming, soil degradation, environmental pollution and degradation, disruption of earth’s natural eco-system, ecological imbalances, resource scarcity and depletion, frequent and uncertain environmental hazards are now global concern. The contemporary environmental issues are not limited to any space or boundary and it demands multidisciplinary considerations. Continuous and ever-growing rate of rapacious exploitation of nature and natural resources, booming industrialization, technocentric development, ruthless urbanization and profit-oriented capitalistic mode of economy are very much responsible for the present day grave environmental crisis across the world. Now the principle of sustainable development is considered as a new hope to restore the nexus between population, environment and development. This seminar attempts deliberation on the above theme and search for avenues to address the present environmental and related issues.
