Extrêmement lent 6’05 Total time: 67’01 favorin.ru 3 PIANO, ROMANTISME ET GRANDEUR Charles-Valentin Alkan est l’un des compositeurs et pianistes français romantiques les plus talentueux, malheureusement trop peu interprété. Né dans une famille juive parisienne de musiciens, il entre à l’âge de six ans au Conservatoire de Paris dans la classe de piano de Pierre-Joseph Zimmerman. Il obtient à dix ans son premier prix. Grâce à son professeur, le virtuose rencontre les grands pianistes de son temps, Marmontel, Chopin, Liszt mais aussi des artistes majeurs comme Victor Hugo et Eugène Delacroix. En 1838 il arrête les concerts pour se consacrer à la composition. Il ne reprend une vie publique de pianiste qu’en 1855 après de brèves apparitions musicales vers 1844. Fasciné par le piano, Alkan montre rapidement un grand intérêt pour les progrès de la facture instrumentale et compose ainsi de nombreuses œuvres pour piano seul. -

Liszt’s influence and support of music and musicians in Russia lasted throughout his mature life. This opens a fertile ground of 2 President's Message exploration of Franz Liszt’s legacy and lasting mark on Russian musical culture and musicians. Liszt’s impact on Russian music history and its development is hard to overestimate; during his heyday as the world's preeminent piano virtuoso, he made 3 Letter from the Editor three tours of Russia (1842 - 1847), leaving an indelible and powerful impression in all circles of Russian society. Subsequently, many Russian musicians made their pilgrimage to visit Liszt in Weimar and other places where he resided. Jahrhunderts. 1844 brachte er Beethovens jahrzehntelang vergessenes Violin- konzert in London unter Mendelssohns Leitung zur Neuauf- führung, worauf das Werk einen festen Platz im Konzert- repertoire erhielt. 1889 wurde Joachim Ehrenpräsident des Vereins Beethoven-Haus in Bonn und wirkte bei den ersten Kammermusikfesten mit. Im Rahmen der diesjährigen Ausgabe widmete ihm der Geiger Daniel Hope (Foto) ein Konzert mit Werken von Beethoven. RUSSIAN, SOVIET & POST-SOVIET CONCERTOS A Discography of CDs and LPs Prepared by Michael Herman Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975) Born in St. Petersburg. He entered the Petrograd Conservatory at age 13 and studied piano with Leonid Nikolayev and composition with Maximilian Steinberg. His graduation piece, the Symphony No. 1, gave him immediate fame and from there he went on to become the greatest composer during the Soviet Era of Russian history despite serious problems with the political and cultural authorities. He also concertized as a pianist and taught at the Moscow Conservatory. He was a prolific composer whose compositions covered almost all genres from operas, ballets and film scores to works for solo instruments and voice.
