INNLEDNING Senter for Ibsen-studier er en tverrfaglig forsknings-, undervisnings- og formidlingsinstitusjon viet Henrik Ibsen. Nøkkeldata Senter for Ibsen-studier holder til i Henrik Wergelands hus på Blindern, samlokalisert med Institutt for Lingvistiske og Nordiske studier (ILN). Senteret er en økonomisk autonom enhet, men er underlagt instituttet administrativt og rapporterer til fakultetet som del av ILN. Senteret har en leder og et råd. MÅLSETNING 2013 Senter for Ibsen-studier har som overordnet mål å styrke Ibsen-forskningen nasjonalt og internasjonalt. Dette gjelder både i omfang og kvalitet. Vi arbeider for å befeste vår internasjonale posisjon som det faglige sentrum for Ibsen-forskningen. 3 3. FORSKNING Universitetet I Oslo skal styrke sin stilling som forskningsuniversitet av høy internasjonal klasse. Dette målet realiserer Senter for Ibsen-studier gjennom sin status som det sentrale knutepunktet for fremstående Ibsen-forskere fra alle kontinenter. I 2013 er eksisterende prosjekter blitt videreutviklet og grunnlaget for nye prosjekter blitt lagt. Resultater 2012 2013 Antall tellende publikasjoner 4 10 Publikasjonspoeng 5,1 16,4 Avlagte doktorgrader 1 1 Styrking av forskningen: prosjektutvikling og publisering Prosjekter ”Ibsen in Translation” (IIT) IiT ble utvidet i 2012, ved at vi fikk tilsagn fra DU om å utvide prosjektet til å omfatte en oversettelse av alle Ibsens 12 samfunnsdramaer til åtte forskjellige språk. I 2013 har vi tegnet intensjonsavtaler med forleggere i de forskjellige landene samt etablert ekspertpaneler rundt hver oversettelse som skal bidra til ytterligere kvalitetssikring. Prosjektet vil fortsette å legge til rette for samarbeidet mellom oversetterne, blant annet gjennom årlige møter og seminarer. Prosjektet vil arrangere tre seminarer, ett ved hvert lærested, og målet er å undersøke forskjellige filosofiske problemstillinger med utgangspunkt i Ibsen. Det første seminaret fant sted i mai 2013 ved Temple, og hadde skeptisisme som overordnet problemstilling. Blant deltakerne var Toril Moi, Kristin Boyce, Susan Feagin, Richard Eldridge, Leonardo Lisi, Kristin Gjesdal og Frode Helland. Helland søkte forskningsrådet om finansiering av prosjektet ”Ibsen in Use”. Prosjektet fikk toppkarakter og -vurdering, men nådde ikke opp i konkurransen om midlene. 4 Det ble sendt to søknader om støtte til personlig post-dok.-stipend gjennom Forskningsrådets FRIHUMSAM i 2013. Liyang Xia med prosjektet «Chinese Ibsens today” og Li Jin med prosjektet «Ibsen and the Emergence of Voice in the East Asian Context”. Ingen av prosjektene fikk støtte i denne omgangen. Agata Dabrowska har fått Yggdrasil-midler til prosjektet “Habitation in Poland. The influence of Polish-Jewish relations upon function of Ibsen’s works in Yiddish Theatre in Poland», og arbeider nå ved senteret med Jon Nygaard som veileder. Senteret har i løpet av 2013 arbeidet med en større satsning på nye forskningsressurser på nett. Første skritt har vært etableringen av forskningsapplikasjonen IbsenStage, som vil lanseres i mars 2014. Den vil da bestå av en repertoardatabase med utvidete mulighet for bruk av mapping, nettverksanalyse o.a. IbsenStage utvikles i samarbeid med Ibsen.net/Nasjonalbiblioteket og AusStage i Australia. Det er også etablert et samarbeid med konservering ved IAKH, UiO om konservering og digitalisering av teaterkulissene ved Fredrikshald Teater, og med Teaterarkivet, LLE, UiB, om digitalisering av Ibsens regibøker og annet teatermateriale i Bergen. Gjennom disse samarbeidsprosjektene vil det både bli mulig å rekonstruere teaterforholdene på Ibsens tid og vise hvordan han utnyttet dette i sitt praktiske regiarbeid. Prosjektet “Literature and History” ble påbegynt i 2013, og består av et samarbeid mellom høgskolene i Volda og Telemark og Senter for Ibsen-studier omkring forholdet mellom litteratur og historie. Hans forfatterskab strakte sig over næsten 50 år, han nåede en verdensomspændende udbredelse, og overfor en lang række af eftertidens kunstneriske udtryksformer fik han kolossal betydning Hans internationale berømmelse kom da han udsendte sine naturalistiske problemdebatterende samtidsdramaer. Væsentlige forudsætninger for Ibsens store gennembrud var Georg Brandes og forlaget Gyldendals direktør Hegel. Om betydningen af de fordringer Georg Brandes havde opstillet for litteraturen i Emigrantlitteraturen (1872), sagde Ibsen: ”Farligere bog kunde aldrig falde i en frugtsommelig digters hænder.” Mens Hegel indtog en mere diskret men ikke mindre vigtig rolle. I samtiden gik vejen til berømmelsens tinder for norske forfattere gennem København. Da Gyldendal blev forlægger for Ibsen begyndte et tæt samarbejde mellem Ibsen og Hegel. For at nå et bredere publikum ønskede Hegel at fremelske et mere universelt præg, bl.a. skulle sproget normaliseres og særnorkse træk udrenses. Den meget oplagsbevidste Ibsen indvilgede straks. Ibsen realiserede med Samfundets Støtter (1877), Et Dukkehjem (1879), Gengangere (1881) og Vildanden (1884) i praksis de teoretiske ideer for det problemdebatterende naturalistiske teater.

In 2014, when the National Theatre in Beijing staged A Doll’s House to commemorate the centenary of this premiere,1 most of the news reports and theatre advertisements cited the Spring Willow Society’s prior performance.2 Scholars and journalists who write about the history of A Doll’s House in China agree in general not only that the performance took place but that it was the first performance of an Ibsen play in China.3 I myself referred to this performance in my doctoral thesis (Xia 2013). In recent years, however, doubts have emerged not only about the claim that the Spring Willow Society performed A Doll’s House, but that the Society performed any plays by Ibsen.     Årsrapport 2010 – Senter for Ibsen-studier ÅRSRAPPORT 2010 Senter for Ibsen-studier Årsrapport 2010 Senter for Ibsen-studier 1. Hovedmål 2010 Senter for Ibsen-studier har som overordnet mål å styrke Ibsen-forskningen nasjonalt og internasjonalt. Dette gjelder både i omfang og kvalitet. Vi vil arbeide for å befeste vår internasjonale posisjon som det faglige sentrum for Ibsen-forskningen. Resultater 2010 Innrapporteringen til Cristin viser at forskningspubliseringen ved senteret fortsatt er svært god. De ansatte har publisert til sammen ti bøker ved senteret. Syv av bøkene er kommet i rekken av Henrik Ibsens skrifter, (HIS 10, 10k, 15, 15k, 16, 16k og 17). Det er videre utgitt tre bøker der senterets ansatte har vært redaktører. Det er avlagt én doktoravhandling ved senteret, det er publisert åtte artikler i ulike tidsskrifter, ti bidrag til ulike bøker/rapporter, og det er holdt femten konferanseinnlegg eller faglige presentasjoner. Arbeidet med bokutgaven av Henrik Ibsens skrifter er fullført. Den består av 16 doble tekst- og kommentarbind, pluss ett bind som inneholder utgavens edisjonsfaglige retningslinjer (i alt 33 bøker). Arbeidet med den elektroniske utgaven av Henrik Ibsens skrifter ble startet opp i januar. Det er i løpet av høsten utarbeidet en prosjektplan der instituttleder ved ILN er eier, mens senterleder er prosjektleder. Det er endelig laget en prototype med følgende innhold: Gengangere, Et dukkehjem, En folkefiende, Digte, kommentarer til disse og informasjonstekster. Prosjektet om ”Ibsenbiografier” er sluttført og utkom med boken Den biografiske Ibsen i serien Acta Ibseniana, redigert av A. Sæther, S. Dingstad, A. Kittang og A.M. Rekdal. V. Ystad har vært medredaktør og bidratt til boken Kierkegaard, Ibsen og det moderne.

    Scandinavica Vol 56 No 2 2017 Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People: An Inter-sociocultural Perspective Mitsuya Mori Professor Emeritus, Seijo University Abstract Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People is frequently performed worldwide today. Its popularity must be due to the relevance of the problems depicted therein to the current global context, such as extreme individualism, democracy vs. mobocracy, environmental pollution, manipulation of information, and the conservative education system. An Enemy of the People was the first Ibsen play to be staged in Japan, although it was adapted for the Japanese setting. At the time of its staging, it reflected the then much-debated issue of copper mine pollution in central Japan. Norway and Japan underwent similar processes of modernization in the second half of the nineteenth century, although with a certain time lag. Therefore, in order to properly appreciate An Enemy of the People today, this article examines the play from an inter-sociocultural perspective. Adopting this perspective allows us to demonstrate the continued relevance of Ibsen to our post-modern world. Ibsen proclaims the freedom of the individual:“For me freedom is the greatest and highest condition for life”, Ibsen wrote in a letter in 1882. He has made generations reflect on fundamental rights and values. Many of the social and personal conflicts in his plays are still relevant, as are the gender norms he challenges when he lets Nora leave because she no longer wants to live the confined life of a doll. Even today, some of his texts are censured and some of his plays prohibited in parts of the world. Toril Moi, Professor of Literature at Duke University, USA and originally from Norway, says that Ibsen’s literary work is unique because he is perhaps the only male author of the 1800s who perceived the situation of women to be at least as interesting as that of men, in both a philosophical and dramatic sense.As part of the ten-year anniversary of NIKK Toril Moi gave a lecture at the University of Oslo on November 28 entitled “’First and foremost a human being: Gender, body and theatre in A Doll’s House”.

    schaubühne am lehniner platz Reading and Staging Ibsen by Thomas Ostermeier Introduction I would like to give you some idea of my approach to Ibsen’s plays. These thoughts are based on my work since 2002. Roughly every 2 years I have directed an Ibsen play: A Doll’s House in 2002, The Master Builder in Vienna in 2004, Hedda Gabler in 2005, John Gabriel Borkman in 2008, and Ghosts which I shall be directing in Amsterdam at the end of 2010. My speech will be divided into two parts. First of all, I would like to give you some idea of why in my opinion Ibsen’s work has a special value nowadays. And then I would like to talk in a more general way about the problems you encounter in the dramaturgy, in the writing and in the directing of Ibsen’s plays. Money and Soul In Germany, especially in the German »Regietheater« of the 70s, 80s and early 90s, Ibsen was always known as the writer who reveals the mysteries of the soul. This led to a special tradition in putting Ibsen on stage, and actors often had a typical way of interpreting Ibsen’s characters in their mind. It was a way of trying to portray the inner landscape of the character. Ibsen was widely interpreted as the writer who had put the ideas of Freud on stage before Freud himself developed them. The consequence was that the actor would try very hard to make believe that his feelings on stage were sincere, and Ibsen’s plays have often been performed with a lot of pauses, emotional seizures and passionate looks out of windows.

He is often referred to as "the father of realism" and is one of the founders of Modernism in theatre.[2] His major works include Brand, Peer Gynt, An Enemy of the People, Emperor and Galilean, A Doll's House, Hedda Gabler, Ghosts, The Wild Duck, Rosmersholm, and The Master Builder. He is the most frequently performed dramatist in the world after Shakespeare,[3][4] and A Doll's House became the world's most performed play by the early 20th century.[5] Several of his later dramas were considered scandalous to many of his era, when European theatre was expected to model strict morals of family life and propriety. Ibsen's later work examined the realities Henrik Ibsen by Gustav Borgen that lay behind many façades, revealing much that Born Henrik Johan Ibsen was disquieting to many contemporaries.
