The Jascots Wine Championship is the stuff of legend, unforgett able to all those who take part. A unique, witt y and occasionally irreverent look at the art of Wine Tasti ng, “The Championship” can be competi ti ve, is oft en boisterous and always joyously inclusive. It is the perfect anti dote to stuff y and boring wine lectures and has always been enjoyed equally by wine enthusiasts and total beginners. HOW DOES IT WORK? The evening starts with a glass of bubbles and moves rapidly into a hilarious, exciti ng and informati ve fi ne wine tasti ng. “Players” are divided into teams ready to take on a selecti on of six to eight fantasti c wines whose identi ti es have been carefully concealed.* Prompted by a multi ple choice questi on sheet, complete with pitf alls and booby traps, teams will face fi ve questi ons on each wine. Jascots’ expert staff will be on hand at all ti mes with a hint, a ti p or a total red herring depending on the state of the game. Joker cards are played, red and yellow cards are waved and there’s inevitable cheati ng, blackmail, skullduggery and forfeits galore. Frequent “totti ngs up” of each team’s points build the excitement and fi nally, amid feverish tension, “To the victor the spoils”! Prizes are awarded and to make quite sure the evening conti nues to fl ow and the atmosphere remains enti rely convivial, we draw the cork on some impressively large bott les of wine, Imperials (6L) or Double Magnums (3L). THE PRIZES Prizes for each member of the winning teams (fi rst and second places) are most oft en a delicious magnum or bott le of wine in a smart presentati on box.* Last but not least the infamous Jascots Wooden Spoon awaits the team with the fewest points. VENUES We have staged The Jascots Wine Championship everywhere from the 30th fl oor of the Gherkin to a back garden marquee; we’ve even been abroad to entertain friends and clients. We are of course delighted to come to your offi ces and should you need a venue we have an extensive list of exciti ng, approved locati ons to inspire you. To book a Jascots Wine Championship or for more informati on please call Elenor McIndoe on 020 8965 2000. *The selecti ons of wines and prizes diff ers according to the level of event chosen. Please see the following pages for details. I will not be able to stop recommending you to other companies!” Catlin “Raving reviews from our customers and my work colleagues. Well done. My bosses were impressed as well. You guys did an awesome job.” (One of the World’s Largest Financial Institutions) “***** are one of our key clients, so it was essential that we impressed them; I think we exceeded expectations on every level! This was due chiefly to your excellent performance... Your expansive wine knowledge, jocular but firm marshalling of the evening, and wonderfully relaxed attitude all contributed to making the evening a great success.” Atisreal Ltd “Your style is fantastic! I’m sure that my people were expecting something very dry and stuffy, surely two words that are NEVER used when describing Jascots! I can sum up the evening in just three words; fun, fun, fun.” Mobile Innovation “Really enjoyed the Wine Championship, best wine tasting event I’ve attended by a long long way. I think they were expecting a much more run of the mill evening.” Morgan Lewis “Last night was tremendous! Consider yourself booked for the next time we do one. • Wine Family of the Year Guilio Ferrari Was Born in Trentino, at the Foot of the Italian Alps, at a Time When the Region Was Stil
Wine Family of the Year Guilio Ferrari was born in Trentino, at the foot of the Italian alps, at a time when the region was still part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. After studies both at home and in Montpellier and Champagne in France, he realized that his home was the perfect place to make great sparkling wines. Giulio Ferrari was not the first winemaker to make sparkling wine in Italy, but he was the first to introduce the traditional Champagne-style method and he pioneered the growing of Chardonnay. But his intuition about his region paid off – by 1906, he was already winning awards for his wines. He was, however, childless and as he grew older, he began looking for a successor. The man he chose in 1952 was Bruno Lunelli, a friend and owner of the local wine shop. Lunelli brought an entrepreneurial spirit to the work, increasing both the area of Chardonnay and total production. In 1969, he passed the winery to his sons, one of whom, Mauro Lunelli, was a keen experimenter who further raised the quality of the wines. A seminal moment came for Ferrari in 1982, when Paolo Rossi, one of Italy’s leading footballers, drank from one of its magnums to celebrate Italy’s soccer team’s triumph in the 1982 World Cup final. From that moment on, Ferrari had cemented its place as the sparkling wine of choice for major celebrations in Italy. It’s not only regularly served at state occasions, but Italy’s Prime Minister Matteo Renzi even told French President Francois Hollande that he would not find anything better in Champagne.
