Royal Basketball School Royal Elite Practice Plan #1 CONDITIONING WARM-UP (10 MIN) (NO BALL) • Sprint to half court, then back pedal. • High knees. • Butt kicks. • Power skips. • Karaoke. • Defensive slides. • Sprint to close outs. • Suicides. o Run to free throw line, back. o Run to Half court, back. o Run to next free throw line, back. o Run to far baseline, and sprint back. Water Break PIVOT SHOOTING DRILL (10 MIN) • The purpose of this drill is to teach the players proper footwork when they receive a pass for a shot. • Talk about the importance of properly pivoting with the ball when turning around for a shot. • Emphasize that they must square up for the shot before attempting to make the shot. Set-up: o Two lines at baseline. o First two players have the ball. o Two coaches will be standing just outside of the top of the key. o Once prompted to go, the players will pass the ball to the coaches. o They will then run straight up to the elbows of the key. o Coaches will pass them the ball. o Using proper pivoting techniques, the players will turn and face the basket, and square up to the basket. o From here, the players have two options: § They can take the shot § Or, they can attack the basket. • If they decide to attack the basket, make sure the players pump fake before they attack. o Players must get their own rebound.
