In chapter one, we tried to situate the work in the context of the new regulations of the intercultural German studies. It should be made clear from the outset that this dissertation is carried out in my own personal interest as well as in the interest of all German students with a view to finding a way out of the problematic of intercultural German studies. The theoretical framework is analyzed in chapter two. We shall at the same time theoretically define and evaluate the following concepts and feminist technical terms: Feminist criticism, womanism, Motherism and Stiwanism. Other sub themes will however be considered. Finally we shall take a stand for womanism as a suitable literary interpretation of feminist texts of Heinrich Böll. In the fourth chapter we shall try to go deeper into the concept of feminism and womanism, whereby one will consider the similarities and dissimilarities between both terms. One will explain that as an African with the African background of Slave Trade, Colonialism and Neo-imperialism as well as the Negritude, one will like to view Heinrich Böll and his works or the German literature with the sociological or New – Marxist literary criticism. Moreover, we shall try to pass on this research to the African recipients, who can hardly understand the German literature through the European or Western criticism, be it hermeneutics, Text- interpretation or feminist literary theory. In chapter five, we shall take up the life history of Heinrich Böll. The biography that shall be shown here is based on the conviction of the author, that his literary engagement was deeply influenced by his life experience. The author cannot achieve the luxury of l’art pour l’art in the literature of ruins and trends. Literature should mirror the society. That is why we shall treat in detail such sub-themes as: childhood, Catholic upbringing and education as well as the historical background of 1929-1945. After a presentation of the relationship between literature and its milieu, we shall come to women’s literature in the works of Heinrich Böll in the fifth 7 chapter. First of all, we shall give a detailed contextual interpretation of the respective titles: Die verlorene Ehre der Katharina Blum, Gruppenbild mit Dame, Ansichten eines Clowns and Frauen vor Flusslandshaft. There after we shall take up the womanist interpretation. In chapter six, the image of the church in the works of Heinrich Böll will be examined exclusively. Böll polemicized a lot against the church’s hierarchy. His objections will be analyzed here and his alternatives accurately explained. In chapter seven, I will globalize my research on the image of woman, by studying the role of women in world religions. First we shall globally present sexism in selected religions. After that, we shall explain in detailed form Gender differences and conflicts in Islam, Christendom and in the African Traditional Religion (A.T.R). In the course of the chapter the reaction of women will be analysed. Because the theoretical assessment of this work is partly based on the African culture; this culture will also be considered from the feminist point of view. The major part of this work shall explain that Heinrich Böll made his mark as a womanist. Up to this point, feminists have inadequately criticized him and his work. A holistic re-reading of the selected stories and novels of Heinrich Böll will weaken the criticism of feminists. Contrary to the opinion of certain critics, that Heinrich Böll portrayed a conservative image of women and an anti-feminist picture, this work has discovered that the author highlighted the situation of woman through his stylistics and literary approaches – even more than many of the so-called feminists. Böll’s methodical procedure is most suitable to the model of the post modern feminism, where the womanist theories find their seat. Sequel to this, we try to research on how the African readers can read, understand and evaluate German literature; even when such literature is already translated into English or French. In my own opinion, one can arouse the interest of the African recipient with a womanist interpretation. This mediatory role should serve as the basic tool for making the reading of literature exciting to Africans studying German language and literature up to the University level. 8 ABSTRACT Researches on the image of women in religion and in literature are often a big topic in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The literary image of women are created or made by male authors ab initio because the orient, the birth place of the three religions, was dominated by patriarchy for a long time. Most male authors were writing patriarchal oriented stories, where women were degraded or demoted to second class beings. This brought about stereotypes, prejudices and a prior condemnation of woman, and men placed themselves in the centre of leading stories as well as in literary canons. On the one hand, men were writing about what they thought about women; their image of woman, however, hardly corresponded with what women thought about themselves. On the other hand they were abusing the religious feelings of women and exploited them. This work deals with further research on the concept of women in the above religions and on their fictional portraits in selected novels and stories of Heinrich Böll.

    DEVELOPMENT OF WOMANIST THEOLOGY: SOME CHIEF CHARACTERISTICS RUFUS BURROW, }R. INTRODUCTION Womanist theology is the most creative development and has been the most sig- nificant contribution to black theology and black religious scholarship since its emer- gence in the mid- I 980s.' Proponents of this new way of thinking about and doing theology are primarily Afrikan-American women who have put black religion on trial' in a way heretofore unknown. Although influenced by both black theology and feminist theology, womanist theology is not a mere constellation of ideas from these camps. Instead, Womanists have focused first and foremost on their own experience and voice as they continue to clarify just what they mean to say and do as theologians whose reality is multidimensional. That is, they are women, Afrikan American, who believe they are frequently adversely affected by classism, colorism, and heterosexism. This essay focuses on three things. First, I discuss contributions of the folklorist, anthropologist, and novelist Zora Neale Hurston to womanist theology and ethics. Second, attention is given the reasons black women religious scholars were initially critical of their male counterparts, and why they now prefer womanist theology as the best way of describing their work. Third, I discuss six important characteristics of womanist theology and ethics. I conclude with a consideration of several limitations or concerns about the womanist theological project. The hope is that these will soon come to center stage in womanist theology and ethics. In doing so, this article selects Clenora Hudson-Weems’ Africana womanism paradigm as an example. The unity of thought and action is the most important concept in this paradigm. The article tries to trace the main features of such a concept and how these features are different from these in other gender-based paradigms. Africana womanism, coming out of the rich and old legacy of African womanhood, then, is an authentic Afrocentric paradigm. Africana womanism is a term coined in the late 1980s by Clenora Hudson- Weems. As a pioneer of such an Africana womanist literary theory, Hudson-Weems explains the term Africana womanism as follows: Africana means African-Americans, African-Caribbeans, African-Europeans, and Continental Africans. Womanism is more specific because “terminology derived from the word ‘woman’ is . more specific when naming a group of the human race” (“Africana Womanism: An Overview” 205-17). Besides, womanism is a recall for Sojourner Truth's powerful speech, “And Ain't I a Woman " affirming that the Africana woman 's problem lies in being black and not in being a woman in which she was forced to speak about race issues because "she was hissed and jeered at because she was black, not because she was a woman, since she was among the community of women" (207).The present article uncovers the importance of Hudson-Weems’ quest for an authentic Africana paradigm through shedding light on her concept of the unity between thought and action, used by earlier authentic Africana paradigms, namely Black aestheticism and Afrocentricity In “Africana Womanism and the Critical Need for Africana Theory and Thought,” Hudson-Weems clarifies her concept of the unity between thought and action.

Jahrhunderts. Allein der Umstand, dass bereits 1955 die erste Gesamtausgabe ihres Werkes erscheint, zeigt die Wertschätzung, die sie in literarischen Kreisen genießt. Und trotz dieser Re- zeption bleibt die Dichterin im Verborgenen, denn während ihre Lyrik veröffentlicht und gelesen wurde, ist ihr Leben lange Zeit unbekannt – erst 1995 legt Johanna Woltmann mit Gertrud Kolmar. Leben und Werk eine umfassende Biografie der Schriftstellerin vor. Gertrud Kolmar wird am 10. Dezember 1894 in Berlin geboren. Ihr Vater ist der Rechtsanwalt und spätere Justizrat Ludwig Chodziesner, ihre Mutter Elise Schoenflies. Die Eltern stammen aus Posen und aus der Neumark und gehören zum Bürgertum jüdischer Herkunft; sie sind aufgeklärte Juden, die die deutsche Kultur und Sprache lieben, ohne jedoch die jüdische Identität zu verleugnen. Insbesondere die deutsche Literatur wird prägend für das geistige Leben von Gertrud Kolmar. Die Karriere des Vaters beginnt in den 1890er Jahren, und Gertrud Kolmar wächst im Wohlstand auf und erfährt eine bürgerliche Bildung. Diese frühen Berliner Jahre werden später von ihrem Cousin Walter Benjamin in seinem Band Berliner Kindheit um 1900 literarisch verarbeitet. Nichtsdestotrotz scheint sie ihre Kindheit auch als einsam empfunden zu haben, was möglicher- weise mit der Geburt der jüngeren Schwester Hilde zusammenhängen mag.     Feminist movements and ideologies This collection of feminist buttons from a women's museum shows some messages from feminist movements. A variety of movements of feminist ideology have developed over the years. They vary in goals, strategies, and affiliations. They often overlap, and some feminists identify themselves with several branches of feminist thought. Groupings Judith Lorber distinguishes between three broad kinds of feminist discourses: gender reform feminisms, gender resistant feminisms, and gender revolution feminisms. In her typology, gender reform feminisms are rooted in the political philosophy of liberalism with its emphasis on individual rights. Gender resistant feminisms focus on specific behaviors and group dynamics through which women are kept in a subordinate position, even in subcultures which claim to support gender equality. Gender revolution feminisms seek to disrupt the social order through deconstructing its concepts and categories and analyzing the cultural reproduction of inequalities.[1] Movements and ideologies Mainstream feminism … "Mainstream feminism" as a general term identifies feminist ideologies and movements which do not fall into either the socialist or radical feminist camps. The mainstream feminist movement traditionally focused on political and legal reform, and has its roots in first- wave feminism and in the historical liberal feminism of the 19th and early- 20th centuries. In 2017, Angela Davis referred to mainstream feminism as "bourgeois feminism".[2] The term is today often used by essayists[3] and cultural analysts[4] in reference to a movement made palatable to a general audience by celebrity supporters like Taylor Swift.[5] Mainstream feminism is often derisively referred to as "white feminism,"[6] a term implying that mainstream feminists don't fight for intersectionality with race, class, and sexuality.

Where black women were once in the vanguard of a political movement for radical change (Combahee Statement, for instance), addressing race, class, gender, and sexual orientation in a simultaneity of oppression and of consciousness of that oppression, challenging and pushing the edges, we can no longer claim that edge if our feminist politics becomes a matter of identity only. The women of the Combahee River Collective was a group of black lesbian feminists of the 1970s, who used their ethnicity to construct a carefully considered analysis of the simultaneity of oppression, a new concept then but one of the earliest theories that fledgling women’s studies students grasp and reiterate easily.
