Compensation pilot project: Scope of validity, conditions and journeys counted.

SBB is conducting a compensation pilot project for the disruption on the - route in summer 2018. The aim is to test a new way of adjusting prices to match the services offered if major inconvenience is caused by engineering work, in spite of the fact that there is no legal obligation to compensate customers during engineering works if a replacement service is put in place. This document explains the conditions that must be met to receive this compensation.

Scope.  The compensation pilot project (hereinafter “the pilot project”) is to run from 7 July to 26 August, when no services will operate on the Lausanne–Puidoux-Chexbres route, within the scope of the replacement services.  This pilot project does not apply to: o Journeys outside the period between 7 July 2018 and 26 August 2018. o Journeys using trains or buses which are not replacement services offered specifically for this disruption (see below). o Disruption on routes other than Lausanne–Puidoux-Chexbres.  The replacement services are as follows: o Special RE shuttle train services on the Lausanne– route. o The six rail replacement bus routes: . Routes 1 and 2: Lausanne–Palézieux. . Route 3: (Croix/Lutry)–Cully. . Route 4: Vevey–Puidoux-Chexbres. . Route 5: –Epalinges. . Route 6: Palézieux–Ursy. o The alternative route via Neuchatêl or Biel/Bienne for journeys between Lausanne and .

Conditions for receiving compensation. To receive compensation in the form of an SBB gift voucher worth CHF 100, passengers must meet all of the following conditions:

1. Volunteering to participate in the pilot project by installing the SBB Mobile Preview app and accepting the general terms of sale.

2. Registering in the app with their SwissPass login (which is free to create and is not linked to purchasing a public transport service). 3. Activating location-tracking services and mobile data on their smartphone during their journeys within the scope of the replacement services. 4. Travelling on at least ten days (one journey per day is counted) on a route which is usually between Lausanne and Puidoux-Chexbres with a journey time extended by at least 20 minutes (see below) in relation to the travel time for the scheduled service.

Journeys counted.  The journey time on replacement services is not calculated in real time. It is based on the replacement timetable published. The journeys taking at least 20 minutes longer than the journey time based on the usual 2018 timetable are listed below.  Only the journeys listed in this document will be counted by the app. For technical reasons, journeys which are not listed in this document but which take more than 20 minutes longer in reality due to external factors (traffic, breakdown, network other than SBB, etc.) unfortunately cannot be counted.  The journeys specified in this table are “minimum” journeys: journeys with departure locations and destinations beyond those mentioned are also counted (for example: Geneva–Lausanne–Fribourg via Vevey on the RE shuttle train).

 Any other journey using the replacement services which is not in this list will not be counted because the journey time will not usually be extended by more than 20 minutes in total.  As this is a pilot project, it is possible that journeys with connections (in particular on other public transport networks) will not be counted despite the journey time being extended by more than 20 minutes.
