We are pleased to be offering this select group of age-advantaged Red Angus bulls. ese bulls have been developed in the Sandhills of Nebraska. We feel that developing bulls is more like an art and something that impacts how he is going to perform his entire life. We develop our bulls to insure structural soundness and longevity to create an honest appearance. ey are not fat feedlot bulls, but rather they are sound footed and hardy from being out on pasture all summer allowing them to “be bulls”. All the bulls are pastured together where they all receive the same treatment. No special treatment is given to poor preforming bulls; for if they cannot perform under the same conditions as their contemporaries they will be culled. We allow the bulls to sort themselves out so that only bulls with superior fleshing ability and structural correctness rise to the top. However, in order to achieve the higher goal of increased revenue per cow exposed, selection pressure must be placed on cowherd- building traits. Red Angus' commitment to Total Herd Reporting allows for the measurement of each female’s lifetime production history; from being exposed to breeding as a yearling, to measuring females’ productive lifespan. Implementing these tools into your selection decisions will have a long-term impact on your operation’s profitability. Calving Ease Direct (CED) - predicts the probability of calves being born unassisted out of 2-year-old heifers. Producers want live calves - born unassisted. Selecting on actual birth weight is flawed; it is influenced by non-genetic factors such as nutrition and weather (ambient emperature). While BW EPD removes these non- genetic factors, Red Angus’ CED EPD is the best predictor of calving ease. The CED EPD includes variation in BW plus other influential genetic factors such as gestation length, calf shape, etc. Heifer Pregnancy (HPG) - predicts the probability of heifers conceiving to calve at two years of age. Many breeds offer genetic predictions of yearling bull scrotal circumference as an indicator of age of puberty. While puberty is a prerequisite, many factors influence pregnancy rate. Red Angus’ HPG EPD offers a tool which selects for what is economically relevant to ranchers - pregnant heifers. Calving Ease Maternal (CEM) - predicts the probability of a given animal's daughters calving unassisted at two years of age. Replacement heifers should be able to calve on their own. Red Angus' CEM EPD offers the industry's most reliable prediction to address that concern. It includes not only the predisposition for a female to calve unassisted, but also her contribution to her calf's traits (birth weight, calf shape, etc.) that make it more likely to be born unassisted. Maintenance Energy (ME) - predicts differences in daughters’ maintenance energy requirements and is expressed in Mcal/Month. Recognizing that 70% of cowherd feed costs are burned up in maintaining weight and condition, Red Angus’ ME EPD allows for the selection of bulls whose daughters will require less feed; thus, reducing cowherd expenses. Include selection pressure for ME EPD to ensure feed costs don’t get out of line when selection is made for greater performance and production. In past years I would do so and would find places that “WRAPPED”. This tradition is used with a couple of symbolic purposes. One is to keep those in suspense as to “what” is wrapped. Wrapped nicely symbolizes this is an important sharing rooted in fun, and also in love and respect for the relationship we share. Our family was the newspaper carrier for the city of Gillespie. We delivered over 1500 papers on Sundays. Well, my mom saved big bucks saving the left over papers not sold at the stores and using them, especially the Sunday color comics, for her wrapping. While many others may of thought “How Cheap”, we loved it, because it was “from MOM”. God the Father gave us His Son …… God the Son gave up His life on the Cross that we might be set free of our sin ……. Joseph and Mary gave up so much to say YES to the angel that sought them out to invite them to take Jesus as their Son, and our Savior.

    COME‐HOME By Ted Slupik There’s no better example of “coming home” than Albert Payson Terhune’s love of his Sunnybank home and his beloved collies. Lad, Terhune’s first famous collie, was devoted to his owner, was a “come‐home” dog. Allowed to romp freely on the grounds of Sunnybank and trained to break loose, he always came home. Most dogs are fairly capable of finding their way home within a three mile radius. Lad and some of his mates always came back to “The Place” at Sunnybank. Lad (the world’s first famous collie) and Lady (Lad’s mate) had only one descendant named Wolf who was killed saving a stray dog on a railroad track. The event was witnessed by many people and was printed as front page news. This helped to contribute to the legend of Terhune’s dogs. Another of Terhune’s more famous collies was Bruce, a dog imported from England that continued the Sunnybank heritage line. Lad’s place in the house was in the music room on a cool floor under the piano. He could watch who was coming up the drive as well as the residents of the house. He was the house and guard dog and was the only dog allowed inside. Lad was the hero of the book, Lad, a Dog, with his master and mistress secondary characters. As you read the book, you are drawn into almost playing the part of these unnamed characters. It seems logical that Terhune, loving his home as much as he did, started a business that kept him there.

This was praise indeed, for Greenall Bridge is in the county of Yorkshire, and, of all places in the world, it is here that the dog is really king. In that bleak part of northern England, the dog seems to thrive as it does nowhere else. The wind and the cold rains sweep over the flat moorlands, making the dogs rich-coated and as sturdy as the people who live there. The people love dogs and are clever at raising them. You can go into any one of the hundreds of small mining vil- lages in this largest of England’s counties, and see, walk- ing at the heels of humbly clad workmen, dogs of such a fine breed and aristocratic bearing as to arouse the envy of wealthier dog fanciers from other parts of the world. And Greenall Bridge was like other Yorkshire villages.
