Are we prepared? Did you make a place for the Lord to “come again”. Will he find a warm heart that is receptive to such a heavenly gift? I love to shop for those I love. In past years I would do so and would find places that “WRAPPED”. This tradition is used with a couple of symbolic purposes. One is to keep those in suspense as to “what” is wrapped. Wrapped nicely symbolizes this is an important sharing rooted in fun, and also in love and respect for the relationship we share. Our family was the newspaper carrier for the city of Gillespie. We delivered over 1500 papers on Sundays. Well, my mom saved big bucks saving the left over papers not sold at the stores and using them, especially the Sunday color comics, for her wrapping. While many others may of thought “How Cheap”, we loved it, because it was “from MOM”. God the Father gave us His Son …… God the Son gave up His life on the Cross that we might be set free of our sin ……. Joseph and Mary gave up so much to say YES to the angel that sought them out to invite them to take Jesus as their Son, and our Savior.

By defamiliarizing the familiar ways humans gaze at dogs, White God models the empathetic gaze between species as a potential way out of the dead end of indifference and the impasse of anthropocentric sympathy toward less hierarchical, co-created urban animal publics.     COME‐HOME By Ted Slupik There’s no better example of “coming home” than Albert Payson Terhune’s love of his Sunnybank home and his beloved collies. Lad, Terhune’s first famous collie, was devoted to his owner, was a “come‐home” dog. Allowed to romp freely on the grounds of Sunnybank and trained to break loose, he always came home. Most dogs are fairly capable of finding their way home within a three mile radius. Lad and some of his mates always came back to “The Place” at Sunnybank. Lad (the world’s first famous collie) and Lady (Lad’s mate) had only one descendant named Wolf who was killed saving a stray dog on a railroad track. The event was witnessed by many people and was printed as front page news. This helped to contribute to the legend of Terhune’s dogs. Another of Terhune’s more famous collies was Bruce, a dog imported from England that continued the Sunnybank heritage line. Lad’s place in the house was in the music room on a cool floor under the piano. He could watch who was coming up the drive as well as the residents of the house. He was the house and guard dog and was the only dog allowed inside. Lad was the hero of the book, Lad, a Dog, with his master and mistress secondary characters. As you read the book, you are drawn into almost playing the part of these unnamed characters. It seems logical that Terhune, loving his home as much as he did, started a business that kept him there.

In fact, you might say that she was the best-known dog in the village – and for three reasons. First, because nearly every man in the village agreed she was the finest collie he had ever laid eyes on. This was praise indeed, for Greenall Bridge is in the county of Yorkshire, and, of all places in the world, it is here that the dog is really king. In that bleak part of northern England, the dog seems to thrive as it does nowhere else. The wind and the cold rains sweep over the flat moorlands, making the dogs rich-coated and as sturdy as the people who live there. The people love dogs and are clever at raising them. You can go into any one of the hundreds of small mining vil- lages in this largest of England’s counties, and see, walk- ing at the heels of humbly clad workmen, dogs of such a fine breed and aristocratic bearing as to arouse the envy of wealthier dog fanciers from other parts of the world. And Greenall Bridge was like other Yorkshire villages. Its men knew and understood and loved dogs, and there 5 lassie come-home were many perfect ones that walked at men’s heels; but they all agreed that if a finer dog than Sam Carraclough’s tricolour collie had ever been bred in Greenall Bridge, then it must have been long before they were born.

    SURPLUS ANIMALS: THE CYCLE OF HELL A Study of Captive Wildlife in the United States BACKGROUND AND HISTORY As recently as the 1960's, the problem of surplus animals was minimal. Traffic in captive wildlife was limited to a small group of breeders/dealers and wildlife photographers who produced animals for documentary programs such as Disney, Wild Kingdom, and other wildlife series. The Hollywood animal industry was just beginning to burgeon, due to the popularity of such television shows as "Flipper," "Gentle Ben," "Daktari," "Cowboy in Africa," and many more. Unfortunately for the animals, money-hungry entrepreneurs saw an opportunity to make big bucks by exploiting the public's love of animals. In fact, it was Ivan Tors, producer of several of the aforementioned television shows, who first had the idea to capture an orca for a theme park. Now approximately 1620 dolphins and whales have been captured for exhibition in hotels and theme parks around the world in the name of entertainment. Hundreds have died. To capitalize on the Hollywood animal craze, a small group of middlemen surfaced who bartered for or purchased surplus animals from zoos to supply film productions, animal trainers, and theme parks. During the sixties, the zoo community was breeding excessively and randomly in order to produce "cute" baby animals for public display and as an incentive for people to visit their institutions. Zoos utilized these roving middle men because they were an effective means of disposing of the "cute" little babies at the end of the season-when they weren't cute anymore. The cycle of "surplus" animals had begun.
