“And the Gift Goes On”

Today we gather to conclude this Advent Season of preparation as Catholics for the coming of the Savior, Jesus Christ, the Word Made Flesh, and the “Good News” John was chosen to be the herald of. Are we prepared? Did you make a place for the Lord to “come again”. Will he find a warm heart that is receptive to such a heavenly gift?

I love to shop for those I love. In past years I would do so and would find places that “WRAPPED”. This tradition is used with a couple of symbolic purposes. One is to keep those in suspense as to “what” is wrapped. Wrapped nicely symbolizes this is an important sharing rooted in fun, and also in love and respect for the relationship we share.

Our family was the newspaper carrier for the city of Gillespie. We delivered over 1500 papers on Sundays. Well, my mom saved big bucks saving the left over papers not sold at the stores and using them, especially the Sunday color comics, for her wrapping. While many others may of thought “How Cheap”, we loved it, because it was “from MOM”.

God the Father gave us His Son …… God the Son gave up His life on the Cross that we might be set free of our sin ……. Joseph and Mary gave up so much to say YES to the angel that sought them out to invite them to take Jesus as their Son, and our Savior. The gift began, as the Gospel of John says, through “The Word Made Flesh”. The Gift goes on as we “Spiritually” prepare to “let Him IN”. Have we any room for Jesus?

I love the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life” with Jimmy Stewart. There is one scene I love more and more. It is when he is in despair and at his last ropes, he stops and “prays”. He says something like: “O God, I am not a praying man, but I need some help. I lost all hope, and hope you can hear me today and send some help my way”. He made room. The director and writer of this classic made room to teach a spiritual truth of who Gods hopes to be for us. It did not offend anyone listening, but I am sure touched many and taught many about “trust” and faith in God. Remarkable and this always blesses me. I heard this on Sirius Radio on the Christmas Channel. This same channel offers a remembrance of the show “”. It speaks of how “” the little boy who owned Lassie spoke of how special Christmas was to him, when all the people lived as folks who were “religious” celebrating the true meaning of the season. It didn’t offend anyone then. I applaud Sirius for being “today’s” heralds in these two ways that touched me this year in hearing their ads. In these means, “The GIFT Goes On”.

Open up to that Light, open up to the gift of Christ that is sure to come “again” your way. Receive Him with great joy and awe. Then allow the “Gift to Go ON” through YOU !!!

Peace, Fr. Chuck

STREAM Makerspace SAGS students are now using recently purchased and donated items in our new "STREAM Makerspace". The goal of a “Makerspace” is to allow students to connect to their curriculum, their community and the world. More specifically, the Makerspace is a collection of resources used collaboratively by students to integrate STREAM (Science, Technology, Reli- gion, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) in the classroom. Resources currently include Legos, building blocks, marble runs, K’nex, circuitry, robotics, and other resources that will allow students PreK-8 to create and problem solve, accom- plishing specific tasks and challenges. Students pictured below are coding Dash the Robot to complete a variety of tasks! Thank you to Mrs. Storm, our Computer Technologies Teacher and Grade School Software Coordinator, for all of her ef- forts in making the project a reality!
