SOCIAL URBAN REGENERATION Postgraduate course 2018 SOCIAL URBAN REGENERATION Postgraduate Diploma of Architecture and Urbanism 2018 SOCIAL URBAN REGENERATION Postgraduate Diploma of Architecture and Urbanism 2018 January 2018 - March 2018 10 weeks ECTS Credits: 30 Language: English Hours: Monday to Friday from 10h - 19h Qualication: Postgraduate diploma of Architecture and Urbanism, degree issued by Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya (UPC) Fee: 3500 € Trip to Paris: not included Presentation The Enric Miralles Foundation and the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya (UPC) are collaborating to host a specialized course in the process of integrated urban regeneration. Based on the way of thinking and working of Enric Miralles and learning his methodology and his technique, and by joining the way of doing of Miralles Tagliabue EMBT the students will specialize on contemporary sustainable integrated urbanism. The course aims to give students the necessary skills to develop an urban project from start to finish, participants will create their own proposals for the “2017 Grand Paris Clichy-Montfermeil suburbs of Paris” project by integrating all necessary theoretical and practical aspects on urbanism and creative design development. Overview The course integrates theory, practice and design and the disciplines of architecture and the city with the analytical discipline of research, while maintaining a timely relevance to the contemporary world’s challenges of inter-disciplinary knowledge, sustainable urbanism, social inclusion and exclusion, architecture and computing, spatial cognition, the physical and immaterial dimensions of social networks, and a user-centred approach to design innovation. The program is structured in 9 subjects and special master- classes. Every subject is both theoretical (mornings) and practical (afternoons). We believe in “making while thinking” and generate open discussions. 3 Case of study - The students will develop their own proposal for La Grand Paris (www.societedugrandparis.fr/english). Clichy-Montfermeil metro station The Grand Paris is an ambitious project to modernize the existing transport network and create a new automatic metro – the Grand Paris Express for the Paris metropolitan area. New significant urban projects are planned to complete the works for this infrastructure. The station of Clichy Montfermeil and the above surrounding urban space is a particular case because it has a symbolic public intervention in a suburb area that was forgotten and abandoned during a long time. This neighborhood was the scene of the violent riots that occurred in October and November 2005 when cars and public buildings were burnt. A new station of the Grand Paris Express will be a symbol of the change for these areas. The project includes the underground station and also the planning of the new square that is to become a central pole in a renewed neighborhood. It will provide an easy access to the inhabitants their working places all over the Ille de France and in the same time will be a source of Urban renewal and mixed use area. For its relevance, this station is considered as emblematic for the Grand Paris and the social side of the project has been enhanced. 4 5 Fundació Enric The Enric Miralles Foundation is an open space in which the legacy of Enric´s work can continue to inspire new Miralles generations of architects to experiment and explore. It is based on methods of inquiry established by Enric and is conceived of as a platform for the promotion of knowledge. The archive includes all project drawings, sketches, notes, photographs, correspondence and approximately one thousand original models. This archive will give the public insight into Enric´s unique intellectual and architectonic design process and will be completely integrated into the Fundation´s activities. In addition to housing the archive of Enric Miralles, the Foundation will promote programs, workshops, courses, conferences, lectures, and international exchanges. 6 Registration Registration will be in order of arrival.
