KATARINA DALAYMAN SOPRANO BIOGRAPHY LONG VERSION Swedish soprano Katarina Dalayman has sustained a long and prestigious international career in the dramatic repertoire and she has enjoyed enduring collaborations with many of today’s foremost conductors. Strong, dramatic interpretations married with impeccable musicianship are her characteristics. Dalayman has performed a wide range of roles including Isolde (Tristan und Isolde), Marie (Wozzeck), Lisa (Queen of Spades), Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), Katarina Ismailova (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk) and the title role of Elektra. With a particularly strong association to Wagner's Brünnhilde, Dalayman has appeared in Ring cycles at The Metropolitan Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Wiener and Bayerische staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Salzburger Festspiele and Festival d’Aix en Provence. Looking ahead to the next phase in her career, Katarina Dalayman’s repertoire is now focused on new roles, having recently made her debut as Kundry (Parsifal) in Dresden, Paris and Stockholm, Judith (Duke Bluebeard’s Castle) in Barcelona and London (Royal Opera House), Ortrud (Lohengrin) with Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde) at The Metropolitan Opera. She has recently appeared as Herodias (Salome) for Royal Swedish Opera, Foreign Princess (Rusalka) at The Metropolitan Opera, Klytämnestra (Elektra), Amneris (Aida), and Kostelnicka (Jenůfa), all for Royal Swedish Opera. Among recent performances can be mentioned her highly celebrated interpretation of Kundry at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, a production that was broadcasted around the world in the Mets “Live in HD” performance transmissions, an appearance together with Bryn Terfel in Die Walküre at the Tanglewood Festival in USA, an interpretation of Carmen and Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda both at the Royal Swedish Opera and Ortrud in Lohengrin, with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. -

Committee for Melbourne, (the Committee), is an apolitical, not-for-profit organisation that represents 150 members comprising Greater Melbourne’s business, academic, arts, and community sectors in advocating for the future of Greater Melbourne. The Committee has a passion for ensuring the liveability and economic and social sustainability of Melbourne as a leading global city in the world’s fastest-growing region. The Committee has a strong interest in the arts and culture sector and the strength and viability of creative industries in Greater Melbourne and across Victoria. MEDIA RELEASE 16 August 2018 Opera Australia announces exciting 2019 season with five new productions for Melbourne Opera Australia today announced their 2019 Melbourne program, promising a truly spectacular season with five new productions, including one Australian Premiere, and featuring some of the world’s finest performers. “It’s a really incredible season” says Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini. “It will be one of the most outstanding seasons we have presented in recent years and we’re proud to be offering an array of new productions, particularly the Australian premiere of Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims.” Never staged in Australia before, a thrilling cast will perform Rossini’s jubilant score in Damiano Michieletto’s playful, large-scale production of Il Viaggio a Reims that brings some of the world’s most recognisable artworks to life. Alongside the Australian premiere, OA will present the Melbourne premiere of four productions this season. After receiving rave reviews, acclaimed director Sir David McVicar’s productions of Così fan tutte and Faust will be performed in Melbourne for the first time. Also making its Melbourne debut is Robert Andrew Greene and Dean Bryant’s popular operetta Two Weddings, One Bride and OA will return to the Coopers Malthouse in 2019 to present Aribert Reimann’s chilling Ghost Sonata. As well as the new productions two opera favourites will return; Elijah Moshinsky’s iconic interpretation of Rigoletto and Graeme Murphy’s much-loved production of Turandot. The 2019 season will see Melbourne play host to some of the finest opera singers in the world. “We have the best singers performing some of the western world’s greatest music, in productions by world renowned directors; there is definitely something for everybody” declared Terracini. -
My Fifty Years with Wagner
MY FIFTY YEARS WITH RICHARD WAGNER I don't for a moment profess to be an expert on the subject of the German composer Wilhelm Richard Wagner and have not made detailed comments on performances, leaving opinions to those far more enlightened than I. However having listened to Wagnerian works on radio and record from the late 1960s, and after a chance experience in 1973, I have been fascinated by the world and works of Wagner ever since. I have been fortunate to enjoy three separate cycles of Der Ring des Nibelungen, in Bayreuth 2008, San Francisco in 2011 and Melbourne in 2013 and will see a fourth, being the world's first fully digitally staged Ring cycle in Brisbane in 2020 under the auspices of Opera Australia. I also completed three years of the degree course in Architecture at the University of Quensland from 1962 and have always been interested in the monumental buildings of Europe, old and new, including the opera houses I have visited for performance of Wagner's works. It all started in earnest on September 29, 1973 when I was 28 yrs old, when, with friend and music mentor Harold King of ABC radio fame, together we attended the inaugural orchestral concert given at the Sydney Opera House, in which the legendary Swedish soprano Birgit Nilsson opened the world renowned building singing an all Wagner programme including the Immolation scene from Götterdämmerung, accompanied by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by a young Charles Mackerras. This event fully opened my eyes to the Ring Cycle - and I have managed to keep the historic souvenir programme. -

Report to the Future Melbourne (Planning) Committee Agenda item 6.2 Melbourne Arts Precinct Blueprint 4 March 2014 Presenter: Rob Adams, Director City Design Purpose and background 1. The purpose of this report is to provide an update on the recent public release of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Blueprint (Blueprint) and advise on the implications for Council. 2. The preparation of a Blueprint to guide the future development of the Melbourne’s Arts Precinct was initiated in May 2011 by the Victorian Government and presents a shared vision for the future of the area as determined by a working group, chaired by architect Yvonne von Hartel AM and comprising key precinct stakeholders including Arts Victoria, City of Melbourne, University of Melbourne and major arts institutions. Key issues 3. The principles underpinning the Blueprint were informed by a community consultation process that involved representatives of arts organisations, residents, arts students and visitors to the precinct. 4. The Blueprint identifies that the precinct has the potential to be a vibrant and active destination and proposes that this will only be fully realised when all levels of government agree to cooperate in the facilitation of this special place. Council’s ongoing participation in the implementation of projects in the public realm is one way by which this overall vision can be achieved (refer Attachment 2). 5. The Blueprint is consistent with Council’s adopted Southbank Structure Plan and includes actions such as the streetscape improvements to City Road, open space along Southbank Boulevard and the integration of Dodds Street with the VCA campus.
