The Ruthenian Journey from the Carpathian Mountains to the Panonian Plain* M
182 2014, № 2 (36) UDC 94(497.1) THE RUTHENIAN JOURNEY FROM THE CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS TO THE PANONIAN PLAIN* M. Fejsa Faculty of Philosophy, Department of Ruthenian Studies University of Novi Sad (Serbia) e-mail: [email protected] Scopus Author ID: 56031169500 Abstract Although the Ruthenians / Rusyns in Serbia (less than 15 000 members of the Ruthenian (Rusyn national community today) were cut off from their brethren in the Carpathian area they have managed to survive on the Panonian Plain. Comparing to the Ruthenians in all other countries the Ruthenians in Serbia have the highest level of minority rights. The Serbian / Vojvodinian authorities do their best to implement international conventions and there is a hope for the Ruthenians in Serbia / Vojvodina to preserve their culture, language and national identity in the future. Keywords: Ruthenians in Serbia / Vojvodina, Carpathian homeland, ethnocultural development, Ruthenian language, national minorities For centuries Ruthenians / Rusyns lived within the borders of Hungarian Kingdom. They lived in the northeast Hungarian counties, namely, in Zemplen, Saros, Abauj-Torna, Borsod, Szabolcs, Ung, Ugocsa, Maramaros and Gemer. Some 260 years ago, groups of Ruthenians began migrating south from their homeland in the Carpathian mountains to the Srem and Bačka regions of what is now Vojvodina in Serbia and Eastern Slavonia in Croatia (Фејса, 2010: 112-113). After the defeat and retreat of the Ottoman Empire from Bačka, Srem and Banat in 1699, the Austro-Hungarian authorities needed more population in the south of their state and supported colonization of Germans, Hungarians, Slovaks and others, among them Ruthenians as well (Gavrilović, 1977: 153). -
Divergence of Myrobalan (Prunus Cerasifera Ehrh.) Types on the Territory of Serbia
UDC 575: 634.22 Original scientific paper DIVERGENCE OF MYROBALAN (Prunus cerasifera Ehrh. ) TYPES ON THE TERRITORY OF SERBIA Dragan NIKOLI Ć and Vera RAKONJAC Faculty of Agriculture, Belgrade-Zemun, Serbia Nikoli ć D. and V. Rakonjac (2007): Divergence of myrobalan (Prunus cerasifera ehrh.) types on the territory of Serbia.. – Genetika, Vol. 39, No. 3, 333 - 342. Variability of some more prominent pomological characteristics was examined in three regions of Serbia (central, western, southern). In all the regions, significant variability of all studied characteristics was established. However, no specifics were manifested between regions, therefore, identical types emerge in all the regions. This is indicated by similar intervals of variation as well as similar mean values of characteristics per region. The obtained results lead to the conclusion that the entire territory of Serbia should be observed as a unique myrobalan population with highly expressed polymorphism of characteristics. To preserve genetic variability of myrobalan, collection is recommended for those types that were arranged into various groups and subgroups according to the results of cluster analysis. Key word: myrobalan, natural population, pomological characteristics, phenotypic variability ______________________________ Corresponding author: Dragan Nikoli ć, Faculty of Agriculture, Nemanjina 6, 11080 Belgrade-Zemun, Serbia, e-mail: [email protected] 334 GENETIKA, Vol. 39, No. 3, 333 -342, 2007. INTRODUCTION The myrobalan or cherry plum ( Prunus cerasifera Ehrh.) is native to southeastern Europe or southwestern Asia. Its seedlings are used for the most part as a rootstock for plum (W EINBERGER , 1975; E RBIL and S OYLU , 2002), but lesser for apricot (D IMITROVA and M ARINOV , 2002) and almond and peach (D UVAL et al ., 2004). -

Genetika, Vol 45, No. 2, 493-502. Studies were undertaken to identify genetic relationships among ten different species of the family Pinaceae through randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Eighteen arbitrary RAPD primers produced 123 fragments of which 107 were polymorphic (87%). The similarity coefficient values varied from 0.34 to 0.67. The highest similarity coefficient was detected between Pinus wallichiana and P. strobus as well as between Picea abies and P. orientalis , and the lowest was detected between three Pinus species ( P. heldreichii , P. peuce and P. wallichiana ) and Picea omorika . The analysis of RAPD markers confirmed the genetic relationships among species. Genus Picea is clearly separated from genus Pinus and is closer to genus Abies (A. concolor ) than to genus Pinus , what confirms up-to-date numerous comparative- morphological, anatomical, chemotaxonomic and molecular results of these closely related genera. -

Abstract Detailed distribution pattern of colubrid snakes in Serbia is still inadequately described, despite the long historical study. In this paper, we provide accurate distribution of seven species, with previously published and newly accumulated faunistic records compiled. Comparative analysis of faunas among all Balkan countries showed that Serbian colubrid fauna is among the most distinct (together with faunas of Slovenia and Romania), due to small number of species. Zoogeographic analysis showed high chorotype diversity of Serbian colubrids: seven species belong to six chorotypes. South-eastern Serbia (Pčinja River valley) is characterized by the presence of all colubrid species inhabiting our country, and deserves the highest conservation status at the national level. -

Serbia in 2001 Under the Spotlight
1 Human Rights in Transition – Serbia 2001 Introduction The situation of human rights in Serbia was largely influenced by the foregoing circumstances. Although the severe repression characteristic especially of the last two years of Milosevic’s rule was gone, there were no conditions in place for dealing with the problems accumulated during the previous decade. All the mechanisms necessary to ensure the exercise of human rights - from the judiciary to the police, remained unchanged. However, the major concern of citizens is the mere existential survival and personal security. Furthermore, the general atmosphere in the society was just as xenophobic and intolerant as before. The identity crisis of the Serb people and of all minorities living in Serbia continued. If anything, it deepened and the relationship between the state and its citizens became seriously jeopardized by the problem of Serbia’s undefined borders. The crisis was manifest with regard to certain minorities such as Vlachs who were believed to have been successfully assimilated. This false belief was partly due to the fact that neighbouring Romania had been in a far worse situation than Yugoslavia during the past fifty years. In considerably changed situation in Romania and Serbia Vlachs are now undergoing the process of self identification though still unclear whether they would choose to call themselves Vlachs or Romanians-Vlachs. Considering that the international factor has become the main generator of change in Serbia, the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia believes that an accurate picture of the situation in Serbia is absolutely necessary. It is essential to establish the differences between Belgrade and the rest of Serbia, taking into account its internal diversities. -

Non-Technical Summary
NON-TECHNICAL SUMMARY According to the current regulation of categorization railway (“Official Gazette of RS", no. 75/2006) railroad Subotica (Cargo) - Horgoš - the Hungarian border is a regional railroad with the tag 56, and its length is 27.90 km. This railway has a category A, the maximum permissible weight of 16 t/axle, and the maximum weight per meter of 5.0 t/m '. Length stopping distance is 700 m. The railroad is single track and non-electrified. According to the ToR, the preliminary project of reconstruction and modernization of the railway line, within the limits of the railway land, which enable technical level and quality of traffic that is consistent with the established requirements of modern transport systems: • increase the speed of trains, • increasing axle loads, • increasing the length of trains, • increase line capacity, • increase safety on the line, • reducing the travel time of trains and energy consumption, • reducing the adverse environmental impact. In the investigated corridor of railway Subotica (Cargo) - Horgoš - Hungarian border potential of surface waters are natural waterways and melioration canals: Kereš – Radanovački canal, Tapša, Vinskipodrum, Kireš, Aranjšor, Dobo, Kamaraš and other melioration canals. Groundwater is particularly present in the lower parts of the terrain that are genetically related to the marsh sediments. The materials are mainly characterized by intergranular porosity, and depending on the amount of clay in individual members is conditioned their varying degree of permeability of the filtration coefficients of k = 10-4 - 10-7 cm / sec. The occurrence of groundwater was registered during the execution of research work at a depth of 0.90 to a depth of 1.90 m, extremely 4.20 m from terrain surface where drilling is performed.
