Soccer Championships $4 NSAA STATE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS MAY 11-14, 16-17, 2016 OMAHA 2015-2016 NSAA OFFICIAL CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM Omaha Burke-1990 Gretna-2003 Millard West-2015 “NSAA activities…the other half of education.” Dear Friends, Welcome to another competition of Nebraska’s state championship games! Congratulations to the students who have earned a chance to represent your school at this event. Thank you to the coaches, parents and guardians who play an important role in supporting our talented young Nebraskans. A student’s involvement outside the classroom can build the character and discipline needed to succeed long after graduation. Providing extracurricular activities for Nebraska youth encourages the development of values such as hard work, creativity, and responsibility. The activities in the coming days will promote healthy competition among talented students in your field. As you challenge one another to do your best, I encourage you to enjoy this memorable time in your high school careers. Participation in high school activities has many benefits for participants. Recent studies revealed that “athletes earned higher grades, graduated at a higher rate, dropped out of school less frequently, and scored higher on state assessments than did non-athletes.” Extracurricular activities stand out from other aspects of adolescents’ lives at school because they provide opportunities to “develop initiative and allow youth to learn emotional competencies and develop new social skills.” Other data shows that participation in organized activities during high school is positively associated with post-secondary educational attainment, voting, volunteering, and occupational factors. The NSAA staff and its member schools are pleased to be able to offer participation opportunities to over 125,000 Nebraska high school students in athletics and performing arts activities annually. Please join us in saluting the students participating in this Championship! Please park in the parking lot that is located directly south of Morrison Stadium. You don’t need to print anything to place in your car to designate that you are a visitor.     Editorial Style Guide CREIGHTON UNIVERSITY EDITORIAL STYLE GUIDE 1 2019-2020 Introduction Each person in the Creighton University community who writes for nonacademic internal and external audiences is faced with many writing-style decisions: Is university capitalized? Do titles go before or after a name? Is email spelled with or without a hyphen? The Creighton University Editorial Style Guide is designed to help faculty, staff and students with their nonacademic writing by giving them clear standards. The purpose of the guide is to eliminate the guesswork and make writing for Creighton publications and websites easier. The University’s official reference for nonacademic communications is the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook. Used by most newspapers and magazines, AP style is familiar to most people and is clear and easy to read. Some writing-style preferences given here are unique to Creighton University. For example, the word university is lowercase except when referring to Creighton. This guide will address those words and phrases. These alphabetically arranged guidelines focus on style issues frequently encountered by those writing about and for Creighton University.
