New Orleans SHOW Wrap-up

Orchid Society's A big congratulations to all who contributed to another big success. Newsletter Randy Johnson did an outstanding job as show chairperson. If you didn't hear of any problems that is because Randy was there to take care of everything to ensure the show ran smoothly. But none of that would have been possible without the countless volunteers who stepped up and helped. And congratulations to exhibit chair Marian Prigmore on another June 2019 outstanding exhibit. Breaux called the meeting to order.

Reports:

 Vice-President Randy Johnson stated that he has postponed a NOOS field trip to Louisiana Orchid Connection in Baton Rouge.  Treasurer Peggy White stated the NOOS bank account is in good order and that we are ready for the show.  Secretary Ann Ebert asked new members Pipyr Dooley and Jason Anthony to stand and introduce themselves. She also asked anyone else who wished to join as new members tonight to see her at the break to complete a membership form and pay their dues. Dues are $20.00 for an individual; $25.00 for a household.  Molly Prokop informed members to see her if they wanted to order a NOOS name tag or have the NOOS logo embroidered on a shirt.

New Business: 2019 NOOS Show  Show chair Randy Johnson stated that the 2019 NOOS Show will held at Lakeside Mall from May 31 through June 2.  If you wish to exhibit plants in the show, you must send an email to Carol Stauder giving the names and parents of the plants, a brief description of the flower color and appearance and the size of the flowers, to the centimeter or ¼ inch. Please email this to Carol as soon as possible but no later than the Wednesday afternoon before the show. Plants must be brought to Lakeside Mall by 10:00 a.m. on the Thursday before the show. Marian Prigmore is in charge of setting up the exhibit. Set up will occur on Thursday morning and volunteers are welcome. Our exhibit will have a jungle theme. If you can provide greenery or other jungle-related décor to add to the exhibit, please bring it to the Mall.  We still need volunteers to staff the raffle table on Friday evening.  Show clerks are treated to breakfast at Café du Monde at around 7:30 a.m., the Saturday of the Show. They are also treated to lunch at Mr. Ed’s.  Sara Duarte is the trophy chair this year. We are giving live plants as trophies and can use additional donations of money to purchase these plants.  Russel Deroche developed the flyers for the show and Rob Schmitt printed the posters.

Announcements:  Gary Crozat, out-of-town show chair, asked for volunteers to set up and break down our exhibit at the Baton Rouge Orchid Society Show, which is scheduled for July 12 – 14.  J.D. announced that we received an invitation from the Galveston Orchid Society to participate in their show, which will take place September 15 and 16.  Ann Roth announced that our special category for tonight’s table judging is Phalaenopsis.  Frank Zachariah, tonight’s guest speaker, brought bedding plants to the meeting for members to take home.
