CHERRYBROOK SENIOR ATHLETICS NEWSLETTER 28Th January 2020 CHERRYBROOK SENIOR ATHLETICS NEWSLETTER 28th January 2020 CONGRATULATIONS CONGRATULATIONS to the 5 athletes who competed at the NSW Combined Championships at Sopac over the long weekend securing 3 medals (1 Gold and 2 Bronze). Congratulations to Amie Bowrey on winning the u20 Heptathlon. Congratulations to Robbie Cullen on smashing the Cherrybrook U18 Decathlon record (by almost 1200 points) in his first ever decathlon. A special mention also to Tara Webb (6 PBs in the U18 Heptathlon) and Chandra Rajapaksha Mudiyanse (4 PBs in the 50-59 Pentathlon). Chandra, in his first pentathlon, was within 10 points of setting a new Cherrybrook Best. CONGRATULATIONS to the 12 athletes who competed at the ACT Championships in Canberra over the long weekend securing 12 medals (4 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze). Congratulations to Kim Neuenkirchen (Secured Shot, Secured Javelin), Sam Dale (U20 Long Jump) and Jonathan Reid (U18 Triple Jump) on winning Gold medals. Sam’s leap of 6.31m was a new U20 Cherrybrook Best and a World U20 Qualifier for the U20 Championships in Kenya in July. Treloar Shield Round 7 (re-arranged) Saturday 1st February SOPAC The final round of the Treloar Shield will be held this Saturday at Sopac from 1pm-6pm. This is the final round of the ANSW Club Track & Field Competition comprising the Junior, Open, and Masters Pennants and the overall Treloar Shield. It would be fabulous to see a large Cherrybrook turnout to ensure the club’s final positions are as high as possible. Events on offer in round 7 are 100m, 400m, 1500m, Sprint Hurdles, Steeple Chase, Long Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Put and Hammer Throw. Para-Athletes are welcome to enter the 100m, 400m and Shot Put please select your para-specific event from the registration portal when registering for this event. Entry fees are $10 online for members (both ANSW and Dual Members). Online Entries will close at 10am, Wednesday 29th January, 2020 using the following link: Online entry is open using the following link: https://www.nswathletics.org.au/eventsregister/58555/ On-the-day entries will be available for $20 cash (members) or $30 cash (non-members) and must be completed one (1) hour prior to the athlete’s first event. All track athletes need to report to athlete check-in at least one(1) hour prior to the start of their event. If you have not yet collected your competition numbers, you may do so from the bib collection area when checking into your event. SENIOR ATHLETICS SUMMER GATHERING A special thanks to Nicky Jenneke for hosting this seasons Senior Athletics Summer Gathering on the 11th January. A fantastic afternoon was had by all. FRIDAY NIGHT CLUB COMPETITION All senior athletes are welcome to compete on a Friday night at Greenway Oval No2, Shepherds Drive Cherrybrook. Club announcements commence at 5.45pm, followed by a warm up with competition commencing at 6.00pm. Friday competition has recommenced after the summer recess and this Friday (31st January) will be program 3. Any athlete wanting to compete in a non programmed event should contact Nicky Jenneke on 0448407716 before 10am on the Friday of competition. Senior Athletes should report to Nicky Jenneke (lady on announcements) after the warm up and before they commence competition. 2019-20 AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP ENTRY STANDARDS The Australian Championship entry standards for this season have been released and are available using the following link. https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/piano.revolutionise.com.au/cups/aa/files/hsyijocvqg79snwj.pdf 2020 RunNSW The 2020 RunNSW calendars will be released shortly. Keep an eye out on the ANSW Website to access a copy when it is available! There are two membership types this year: 1. Junior RunNSW for U12-U17 LANSW registered athletes. $45 2. RunNSW for all others $90. All open and concession members receive full RunNSW benefits. Dual members receive the NSW Championship benefits. The RunNSW Membership for 2020 gives you FREE access to the following events: 1. Sydney10 which includes a 2km, 5km and 10km events. 2. Sydney Half which includes 2km, 7km and half marathon events. 3. Fernleigh 15 which has a team relay option and 15km event. 4. Casino Fun Run which includes 2km, 5km and 10km events. 5. Armidale Fun Run which includes 5km and 10km events. It also includes 50% off the following NSW Championship Events: - St George Classic, 18th April 2020 at Scarborough Park, Ramsgate. - Team Walks, 17th May 2020 at Chipping Norton. - Cross Country Relays, 30th May 2020 at Miranda Park, Miranda. - Cross Country Championships, 20th June 2020 at Browns Mountain Road, Nowra. - Short Walks, 21st June 2020 at International Regatta Centre, Penrith. - Cross Country Short Course, 5th July 2020 at Upjohn Park, Dundas. - Street Relays, 11th July 2020 at University of Newcastle, Central Coast Campus. - Long Walks, 26th July 2020 at International Regatta Centre, Penrith. AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS The dates for the Australian Championships this year are: Australian Combined Championships – QSAC 15/2 -16/2 2020 Australian Athletics Championships – Sopac o U15-U18 events 21/3-24/3 o U14, U20 and Open events 26/3- 29/3 Australian Masters – Brisbane – 10/4-13/4 ELIGIBILITY TO REPRESENT NSW All athletes wishing to represent NSW at the 2020 Australian Athletics Championships must: Be a minimum of 12 years of age as at 31 December 2020 Be a registered and financial member of Athletics NSW at the time of competition Compete in the 2020 NSW Junior Athletics Championships (21st - 23rd February) / NSW Open Athletics Championships (6th - 8th March) Compete in at least one other ANSW event during the 2019/20 summer season To qualify to compete for NSW in the Australian Athletics Championships, athletes must satisfy at least one of the following criteria: Place First, Second or Third: NSW All Schools Athletics Championships (26th - 29th September 2019)** NSW Junior Athletics Championships (21st - 23rd February 2020) NSW Open Athletics Championships (6th - 8th March 2020) Achieve the 2019/20 Athletics Australia National Entry Standard for the relevant age group and event. Entry Standards must be achieved at a National Permitted Event. NSW events that hold a National Permit include: NSW All Schools Athletics Championships NSW Junior Athletics Championships NSW Open Athletics Championships Australian All Schools Athletics Championships Any event on the ANSW Calendar 2019 GPS or CAS Athletics Championship(s) In addition to this athletes results from the following events will be accepted: NSW State Little Athletics Championship 2019 NSW PSSA Athletics Championships 2019 - only athletes who finish first in their event in the 12 year old age group(s) will automatically qualify PLEASE NOTE: ATHLETES MUST COMPETE AT NSW JUNIORS CHAMPIONSHIPS (if you are a junior aged athlete) or OPENS NSW CHAMPIONSHIPS (if you are an open aged athlete) IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE AUSTRALIAN ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS. The SYDNEY TRACK CLASSIC is a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze Meet ( C ) VENUE The competition will be held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, Edwin Flack Avenue, Sydney Olympic Park. EVENT INFORMATION Entry Lists and Timetable *The Timetable has been updated. Please make sure you review the timetable and start lists. Any changes to the COMPETITION Timetable will be provided to athletes by email or will be announced during the event. ENTRY TO STADIUM Accredited entry will be via the Main Gate. Accreditation will be available for collection. Athletes Entry A list of athlete names will be available at this gate and all athletes will be required to provide their name and be checked against the entry list. Athletes will receive one (1) ATHLETE accreditation pass and one (1) COACH accreditation pass which will provide entry into the venue. Athlete CHECK IN (TIC) All athletes are required to CHECK in for their event. Athlete Check-in will be via an online portal. Athletes will be sent a link to their mobile on the day of competition and will be required to check-in for their event no later than 1 hour prior to their event start time. If you have trouble with the online app, please report to Competition Management located as outlined on the map below. Noah Hain, in his very first Australian Championships, won the bronze medal in the Under 14 Boys Long Jump event. The jump that earned the medal for Noah was 5.80 m. This leap by Noah broke the previous Club Record which had been set by Noah’s brother, Sam.
