STEPHEN SMITH Board Member, Perth USAsia Centre Professor Stephen Smith has been a Professor of Public International Law at the University of Western Australia since 2014. In May 2018, Professor Smith was appointed by the Australian Government to the Resources 2030 Taskforce. He is the Chairman of archTIS. Professor Smith recently took part in the Australia- high level Dialogue in Beijing in December 2018, and the 2019 Raisina Dialogue in Delhi. CRAIG ALLEN President, US-China Business Council Craig is the sixth President of the United States-China Business Council (USCBC), a private, nonpartisan, UVUWYVÄ[VYNHUPaH[PVUYLWYLZLU[PUNV]LY(TLYPJHUJVTWHUPLZKVPUNI\ZPULZZ^P[O*OPUH7YPVY[VQVPUPUN USCBC, Craig had a long, distinguished career in US public service. Previously, Craig has been Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia at the US Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration, Deputy Assistant Secretary for China, and the United States Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam.

ALYSSA AYRES Senior Fellow, Council on Foreign Relations Alyssa Ayres is senior fellow for India, Pakistan, and South Asia at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). Prior to CFR, Ms Ayres served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia from 2010 to 2013. Her book about India’s rise on the world stage, “Our Time Has Come: How India is Making Its Place in the World”, was published by Oxford University Press in January 2018, and was recently selected by the Financial Times for its “Summer 2018: Politics” list. At CFR her work focuses on India’s role in the world and on U.S. relations with South Asia.

MARK BAILLIE Chairman, United States Studies Centre Mark Baillie was appointed Chair of the Board of Directors at the US Studies Centre (USSC) in November 2015, and has been a member of the USSC Board since February 2014. Baillie also currently serves on the Board of Directors at the Perth USAsia Centre. He was previously the non-executive Deputy Chairman of Folkestone Limited, an ASX-listed real estate funds management, investment, and development company. Prior to that he was the head of European and North American real estate for Macquarie Group Limited, ^OPJOPUJS\KLKÄ]L`LHYZIHZLKPU*OPJHNV In addition to his long career with Macquarie Group, Baillie has been a director of the Property Council of Australia, the Shopping Centre Council of Australia, the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (past chairman), the European Public Real Estate Association and the American Australian Association Limited.

DAN BLUMENTHAL Director of Asian Studies and Resident Fellow, American Enterprise Institute Dan Blumenthal is the director of Asian Studies at the American Enterprise Institute, where he focuses on East Asian security issues and Sino-American relations. Mr. Blumenthal has both served in, and advised the U.S. government on China issues for over a decade. From 2001 to 2004, he served as senior director for China, Taiwan, and Mongolia at the Department of Defense. Additionally, he served as a commissioner on the congressionally-mandated U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission from 2006 to 2012, and held the position of vice chairman in 2007. He has also served on the Academic Advisory Board of the congressional U.S.-China Working Group. Mr. Blumenthal is the co-author of “An Awkward Embrace: The United States and China in the 21st Century” (AEI Press, November 2012). He holds a B.A. from Washington University, an M.A. from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, and a J.D. from Duke Law School.

GABRIELLE BURRELL Minister Counsellor (Defence Policy), Embassy of Australia Gabrielle is Minister Counsellor Defence Policy at the Australian Embassy in Washington for the period 2017- 2020. Her role is to facilitate Australia’s defence and security relationship with the US, including through strategic dialogue, such as The Australia - United States Ministerial Consultations (AUSMIN). In 2016, as Assistant Secretary for South and South East Asia within Defence’s International Policy Division, Gabrielle was responsible for delivering policy advice to government, regional bilateral and multilateral defence engagement, and the Defence Cooperation Program.

JIM CLAPPER Former Director of National Intelligence The Honorable James R. Clapper served as the fourth US Director of Intelligence from August 9, 2010 to January 20, 2017. In this position, Mr. Clapper led the United States Intelligence Community and served as the principal intelligence advisor to President Barak Obama. Mr. Clapper retired in 1995 after a distinguished career in the U.S. Armed Forces. His career began in 1961 when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and culminated as a lieutenant general in the U.S. Air Force and Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.
