Organizers are seeking to attract 1963 to 1973 V8 powered MUSCLE CARS and there may be some entry incentives offered as an enticement. It is also the last opportunity for HRCC members to grab some points towards the 2019 club championship trophies so don’t miss it. Even if you are not running a car, support the club and go as a spectator. It makes a great day trip out from Brisbane in a great setting while being a relaxed carnival event. If you don’t want to trek up the hill, there are regular bus rides. Stay tuned for more news….. Kevin Bartlett at HRCC Social Night Living Australian motorsport legends are becoming rare on the ground these days, so HRCC members and friends were treated to something special when Kevin Bartlett ran through the years and cars of his racing career. As he is known to do, Kevin gave a frank and at times, humorous account of his passion to drive race cars as often as he could. And unabashed, he stated that the only cars he wanted to talk about on the night were open wheel cars which were to see him a two time winner of the Australian Drivers Championship, a winner of the Macau Grand Prix, the first ever driver to secure a 100mph lap at Mt Panorama in a Repco Brabham BT11, driving an Indy car at Indianapolis USA as well as many other achievements.

  • Written by Erich Walitsch, Jochen Rindt Historian How Do
Jochen Rindt – written by Erich Walitsch, Jochen Rindt Historian How do you become a racing driver? Karl Jochen Rindt was born April 18th 1942 in Mainz and died on 5th September 1970 during practice for the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. Rindt contested 60 Formula 1 Grand Prix races and won 6 of them. In 1970 he was announced posthumous World Champion. He is the only Formula 1 World Champion to be awarded this title. His mother Ilse was a very modern and open-minded woman for her time. She ignored all traditional behaviour. She was an elegant and fashionable lady as well as a smoker. She could be found on ski- slopes and preferred to drive cars herself instead of being ferried around by a chauffeur. It is believed that Jochen’s cosmopolitan thinking came from his mother’s side. When questioned about his origin, Jochen always answered “I am an European”. This he said only a few years after the Berlin wall was built, he was ahead of his time by decades. His father Karl was a honest tradesman who managed the spice mill “Klein & Rindt” in Mainz as a stable business. From his father, he inherited his passion for numeracy as well as his business sense. In 1943 Isle and Karl Rindt lost their lives in a bombing raid in Hamburg, while inspecting the spice mills local branch. Their bodies were never found and hence the full facts about this dreadful night of bombing was never established. Jochen was brought to his grandparents in Graz and grew up in their apartment at Ruckerlberggürtel No.

For me it puts in perspective, the struggle to get those of us lucky enough to own one of our beautiful little race cars, to bring them to the race track. We are preparing ourselves for our special time every two years. The centrepiece is of course the Tasman Revival, where we plan to show off the Association with one of the best fields of the weekend. We will be joined by our friends from the UK, NZ and Japan, making a group of, hopefully, in excess of 40 – what a great sight that will be! Two weeks before the Tasman, some 20 of us will be in Perth celebrating the 50th anniversary of the WA GP. Here the Formula Junior cars will be the biggest group and will put on a great show at the upgraded Barbagallo Circuit. Jim Barclay has done a great job in New Zealand, getting such support from Formula Junior for the Denny Hulme Festival, that there will be in excess of a full grid.
