Dissemination activities of EuroHYP-1 1.1 Executive summary: dissemination activities during the project period EuroHYP-1 was the largest prospective clinical trial on Therapeutic Hypothermia for stroke patients ever conducted in Europe. With EuroHYP-1 the heterogeneous approaches to therapeutic cooling in awake patients were harmonized within a unique protocol and spread among 63 renowned stroke centres in 13 countries. Leaders in stroke and clinical sciences across Europe were brought together with experts in biostatistics, health economics, regulatory trial conduct and ambitious enterprises - including several European Small-size Enterprises, which developed innovative cooling technologies - to form a network and to generate & investigate the scientific evidence for therapeutic hypothermia in this prospective, randomized, phase III, open-label clinical trial with blinded outcome assessment. The EuroHYP-1 consortium has been very active and successful with its press activities during the project period. There were two major press conferences organized, one in March 2012, soon after the start of the project, and a second one in 2016, when the safety and tolerability data associated to the trial has been released. News of the launch of the EuroHYP-1 trial in 2012 was released at a press conference held in Brussels on March 19, 2012. It was widely welcomed. Reports were published in several languages in Europe, the USA, Asia and Latin America, highlighting the public interest for the implications of the trial for the future treatment of stroke with hypothermia. The media coverage of the launch of the EuroHYP-1 research project was positive across the media sectors, from national and regional newspapers, digital and audiovisual media as well as specialist medical publications in the core European countries including (British Medical Journal, Le Journal du Medecin (Belgium), Diario Medico (Spain), Clinical Trials Weekly and health/medical websites across Europe). Articles appeared in several national and regional media such as Il Corriere della Sera and Il Sole 24 Ore, Il Messaggero, La Stampa (Italy); El Mundo, El Diario, La Vanguardia, La Voz de Galizia and several other regional newspapers in Spain, The Daily Telegraph and BBC in Great Britain; Le Soir, La Libre Belgique, La Dernière Heure, the business magazine Trends and regional German speaking Grenz Echo, websites and radio stations, including RTL and Twizz Radio In Belgium; Sydsvenska Dagbladet, Skånska Dagbladet, Expressen as well as in several other local newspapers and websites in Sweden; Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, the Westfalien Post and other newspapers of the WAZ media group, as well as some websites (Germany); Al Jazeera ________________________________________________________________________________ Page 3 of 11 EuroHYP-1: Final Report – Use and dissemination of foreground ______________________________________________________________________________ Balkans TV, a popular Satellite TV in the Balkan region, made a report on the Brussels’ press conference with several interviews. Four years later, eminent scientists and representatives from technology companies came together to announce the first results of four years of work of the EuroHYP-1 team at a press conference held in Brussels on the 7th of October 2016. Participants heard details on the progress since the launch, the challenges the consortium had to overcome so far and the technological innovations developed to meet the needs of patients in the largest EU medical trial to date. The press conference was organised by the European Stroke Research Network for Hypothermia (EuroHYP), together with the EuroHYP-1 consortium members. The objective was to announce that after having successfully enrolled the first 62 patients, the evaluation proved that cooling the brain within 6 hours of a stroke appears safe and well tolerated. In addition to the lay press, the EuroHYP-1 consortium also published articles related to the trial itself, for example the Clinical Study Protocol and the Statistical Analysis Plan. Below you can find the two main articles published in peer-reviewed journals. The EuroHYP-1 trial design paper was published in International Journal of Stroke in 2014 [1]. The EuroHYP-1 Trial SAP was published in Trials in 2017 [2]. We are thankful we could partner with Brussels Gallery Weekend for our first edition. The Panopticon, A Performance Affair’s first edition, transformed the second floor of the Vanderborght Building into an immersive space for three days of performances in collaboration with the Brussels Gallery Weekend (7—9 September 2018). Inspired by the notion of the Panopticon and the building’s unique architecture, continuous and overlapping performance works by international artists were presented throughout the dynamic venue. Presenting a myriad of performances for sale by emerging and mid-career artists selected by a high-level committee, and featuring Violent Incident, an historic performance video by Bruce Nauman, an interactive performance installation by Greg Finger, A Performance Affair put the whole spectrum of the economies of performance art on display and for discussion. Watch the replay on Youtube Joris Van de Moortel presented by Galerie Nathalie Obadia © Jeroen Verrecht Thanks to the Vanderborght’s unique architecture, The Panopticon transformed each visitor from witness to voyeur to performer, while the Bureau broadcasted live the whole duration of the weekend, enabling visitors from around the world to surveil the affair through our two YouTube channels. • The Lion, the Rooster, and the Union: National Identity in the Belgian Clandestine Press, 1914-1918
THE LION, THE ROOSTER, AND THE UNION: NATIONAL IDENTITY IN THE BELGIAN CLANDESTINE PRESS, 1914-1918 by MATTHEW R. DUNN Submitted to the Department of History of the University of Kansas in partial fulfillment of the requirements for departmental honors Approved by: _________________________ Dr. Andrew Denning _________________________ Dr. Nathan Wood _________________________ Dr. Erik Scott _________________________ Date Abstract Significant research has been conducted on the trials and tribulations of Belgium during the First World War. While amateur historians can often summarize the “Rape of Belgium” and cite nationalism as a cause of the war, few people are aware of the substantial contributions of the Belgian people to the war effort and their significance, especially in the historical context of Belgian nationalism. Relatively few works have been written about the underground press in Belgium during the war, and even fewer of those works are scholarly. The Belgian underground press attempted to unite the country's two major national identities, Flemings and Walloons, using the German occupation as the catalyst to do so. Belgian nationalists were able to momentarily unite the Belgian people to resist their German occupiers by publishing pro-Belgian newspapers and articles. They relied on three pillars of identity—Catholic heritage, loyalty to the Belgian Crown, and anti-German sentiment. While this expansion of Belgian identity dissipated to an extent after WWI, the efforts of the clandestine press still serve as an important framework for the development of national identity today. By examining how the clandestine press convinced members of two separate nations, Flanders and Wallonia, to re-imagine their community to the nation of Belgium, historians can analyze the successful expansion of a nation in a war-time context.

  • Partis Et Systèmes De Partis En Belgique En Perspective

  • Political Opinion Polls in Belgium from 1 J Anuary 1998 to 13 June 1999
Political opinion polls in Belgium from 1 J anuary 1998 to 13 June 1999 by Bram WAUTERS 1 Research Assistant at the section Politica! Sociology of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Notwithstanding its inherent limitations, the opinion poll is an important way to register public opinion. In Belgium particularly, where little attention is paid to other forms of registration of public opinion and where little effort has been made to develop politica! statistics, it is important that the various polls that are conducted throughout the politica! year by different organisations be registered and classified. This survey tries to fill this need by taking up an old tradition in the Politica! Yearbook. 2 From 1974 to 1992, an annual review of the politica! opin ion polls in Belgium was published in Res Publica. The University of Ghent com piled the information about opinion polls in this period in a book. 3 In recent years, however, no classification or overview of politica! opinion polls has been available. The present inventory lists the politica! opinion polls for 1998 and for 1999 up to the elections of 13 June. Given the importance of these elections for the Chamber of Representatives, the Senate, the European Parliament, and the Flemish Parliament as well as for the Walloon Parliament, the Brussels Council, and German-speaking Council, it is appropriate to cover the entire period from 1 January 1998 to these elections and not to stop, as in previous surveys, at 31 December 1998. This review of politica! opinion polls in Belgium is divided in function of the major policy sectors: foreign policy, social policy, economie policy, financial pol icy, domestic policy, and cultural policy.
