Requirements shall be the Specification for Highway Works, published by The Stationery Office as Volume 1 of the MCHW current on the Reference Date, as modified and extended by the following: i) Appendix 0/1: Additional, Substitute and Cancelled Clauses, Tables and Figures Specific to the Agreement; ii) Appendix 0/2: Agreement-Specific Minor Alterations to Existing Clauses, Tables and Figures included in the Agreement; iii) The Numbered Appendices listed in Appendix 0/3; and iv) Appendix 0/5: Special national alterations of the Overseeing Organisation of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. 1.1 Appendix 0/4 contains a list of the Drawings. 1.2 The relevant publication date of each page of the Specification for Highway Works is given in the Schedule of Pages and Relevant Publication Dates, contained in this Preamble to the Specification. 1.3 An Additional Clause, as indicated by a suffix 'A' in Appendix 0/5 is an alteration originating from the Overseeing Organisation of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. An Additional Clause as indicated by a suffix 'AR' in Appendix 0/1 is an Agreement-specific alteration. 1.4 A Substitute Clause, as indicated by a suffix 'S' in Appendix 0/5 is an alteration originating from the Overseeing Organisation of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. A Substitute Clause as indicated by a suffix 'SR' in Appendix 0/1 is an Agreement-specific alteration. 1.5 A Cancelled Clause, as indicated by a suffix 'C' in Appendix 0/5 is an alteration originating from the Overseeing Organisation of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Description This walk, in an elongated figure of eight, provides a range of country and riverside environments to enjoy in scenic Deeside. The walk starts and finishes at the historic ruin of the Church of St Mary in Kincardine O’Neil, the oldest village on Deeside. The present structure dates back to the 14thC but it is believed to have been a place of Christian worship from the 6thC. This walking route takes in a number of old roads, starting with Gallowhill Road, its purpose deriving from Medieval times when every feudal baron was required to erect a gibbet (gallows) for the execution of male criminals, and sink a well or pit, for the drowning of females! Soon after, the route follows a short section of the Old Deeside Road, now a farm track, which dates to before the great agricultural improvements that started in the 1700's.

Park in the small car-park at the walk start/end point (near the entrance to the access road to Lost farm). Length: 5.980 km / 3.74 mi Height Gain: 149 meter. Height Loss: 149 meter. Max Height: 340 meter. Min Height: 282 meter. Surface: Moderate. A fair amount of walking on tarred road surfaces. Otherwise, good paths and forest tracks. There are good views at every turn on the track of the mountainous Highland landscape all around, towering above the valley of the River Dee near Braemar. Duration: 2.25 hours. Route Overview Duration: 2.25 hours. Transport/Parking: Start/end point is 220 m from the main A93. Regular Stagecoach bus service along A93 Deeside to Braemar. Check timetables. Invercauld Estate walkers car-park at the walk start/end point. Fee £3 at May 2021. Length: 5.710 km / 3.57 mi Height Gain: 217 meter. Height Loss: 217 meter. Max Height: 469 meter. Min Height: 329 meter. Surface: Moderate. Good estate roads and grassy tracks. A 1.7 km section on a tarred estate access road at the end of the walk. Difficulty: Easy. Child Friendly: Yes, if children are used to walks of this distance and overall ascent. Dog Friendly: Yes, keep dogs on lead on public roads and near farm animals. Refreshments: Options in Braemar and Ballater. Description This is a very pleasant short walk amongst mature open conifer woodland, with fine open views down to the valley of the upper River Dee, and of the mountainous landscape all around Keiloch on the Invercauld Estate. The route slowly climbs onto the area known as Craggan Rour on the SW shoulder of Craig Leek. There are good views initially, on the NE aspect, down to the wide Felagie Glen and hills beyond.

    9 Connectivity 9.1 Internal geography The Cairngorm Mountains are at the geographical heart of the Cairngorms National Park. However, they also form a physical barrier to transport and communication between communities within the Park’s boundaries. Transport routes run inside the north west, north east and south east boundaries of the Park. There are no vehicle routes across the Park and none along the south west boundary. Figure 88 is a map of the Park with the main road and rail links marked. Figure 88 Transport links within the National Park 96 9.2 Road connections Point of entry marker, Glenlivet There are two main road access routes into the Park – the A9 and the A93. The A9 is the main access to the west of the Park, from Inverness and the north and from Perth and the south. Most of the main centres of population in the west of the Park are located along the route of the A9 (although all of the actual settlements are now bypassed).
