BAHEP welcomes Axiom Space, Inc. as new member

BAY AREA HOUSTON, TEXAS – Axiom Space, Inc., is a privately funded space infrastructure developer headquartered in Houston, TX. Founded in 2016 by President/CEO Michael Suffredini and Executive Chairman Dr. Kam Ghaffarian, the company is planning commercial missions to the International beginning in 2022 and will construct, own, and operate the world’s first commercial space station. Axiom Space has recently become a member of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership.

Bob Mitchell, BAHEP president, participated in a news conference on Dec. 22, 2020, which announced that Axiom Space will locate its commercial space station development and operations at the Houston . Speaking at the conference he said, “The same great environment that produced so many technological advancements in Houston’s past is, once again, creating its next successful venture into space – Axiom Station.”

BAHEP has worked very closely with the aerospace community in Houston for 45 years to help this important industry cluster continue to be successful. Mitchell stated, “Axiom Space represents America’s next great adventure in the commercialization of space where it will continue and build upon the amazing accomplishments of the men and women who have conducted research aboard the International Space Station for the past 20 years. We are very excited and proud to welcome this dynamic and far-sighted company to BAHEP.”

Suffredini served as NASA’s International Space Station Program Manager from 2005 to 2015 and oversaw the Station’s transition from assembly to operation and commercial utilization. He will represent Axiom Space within BAHEP as well as Alicia Woodley, Axiom’s chief counsel and director of Corporate Operations, and Beau Holder, communications manager with Axiom Space.

“Axiom Station will be the foundational layer of infrastructure enabling a permanent, prosperous human presence and a thriving network of commercial activity in low-Earth – and its modules will be the first human-rated ever assembled in Houston,” Suffredini said. “BAHEP has been a valued partner of the aerospace community for decades, and we are pleased to work with Bob Mitchell and his staff to support the growth and dynamism of the industry in Space City.”
