Richmond-AID-Factshe Richmond AID Factsheet Accessible Sports This fact sheet is one of many produced by Richmond AID. Our fact sheets can contain a lot of information and guidance. Some of this may seem quite complicated. If you would like personal advice from one of our helpline advisors or to make an appointment to see a benefits advisor, contact Richmond AID on 020 8831 6070. Listed below are a variety of accessible sports and facilities within Richmond upon Thames and surrounding areas. Each entry is in alphabetical order by sport and then venue. A short introductory paragraph accompanies each listing. The sports listed are: • Basketball (Wheelchair basketball) • Boccia • Cycling (Companion Cycling) • Horse riding • Rugby (Wheelchair Rugby) • Sailing • Swimming • Trampolining • Other sports • Leisure & Sports Centres • Other Local Sports Information • General Advice on Accessible Sports in the UK A ‘General Advice on Accessible Sports in the UK’ section towards the end of the fact sheet also gives details of nationwide organisations which provide accessible sports and facilities ranging from boating to water skiing. It also includes information about the upcoming Olympics and Paralympics. Different facilities and sports centres may have different equipment, access features and levels of support available. For example, you may be able to access a gym but use only one or two pieces of equipment, or you may only be able to visit a facility at a particular time. If you try to 1 Revised on: 09/06/10 use a sports and leisure service but can’t access it at all, you can challenge the provider under the Disability Discrimination Act. Richmond AID can support you in speaking to, making a complaint about, or challenging the provider about their duties under the DDA. For further information about sport and leisure within the borough, we also publish an ‘Outdoor Activities factsheet’ which includes health walks and other activities. CULTURAL PARTNERSHIP STRATEGY 2015 - 2019 FOREWORD I am delighted to present Richmond upon Thames’ Cultural Partnership Strategy 2015 – 2019. The strategy defines the Borough’s commitment to the creative arts and aims to ensure that Richmond continues to be known for providing a high quality cultural environment for both residents and visitors alike. Culture enriches the lives of everyone and makes a valuable contribution to the health and wellbeing of our community. Through our Cultural Partnership Strategy I believe we have the opportunity to extend the quality and impact of the arts sector. It has been a pleasure to see the Borough’s cultural community working together to develop and shape this strategy. It is exciting to see the commitments that have been made and I am thrilled by the possibilities that this will bring to us all in Richmond upon Thames over the next four years. Councillor Meena Bond Cabinet Member for Arts, Culture and Sport 2 CULTURAL PARTNERSHIP STRATEGY 2015 - 2019 INTRODUCTION This Cultural Partnership Strategy sets out the four-year strategy for culture in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames 2015- 2019 which has been developed in partnership between the cultural organisations in the Borough and the Council. The strategy outlines the Cultural Partnership’s shared vision for culture in the Borough. We believe collaboration across the local cultural sector will achieve the greatest benefit for residents in terms of our individual lives; our community; individual wellbeing and the local economy. The Strategy focuses on three goals which we believe our resources can most effectively be invested, as individual organisations, and through the Council’s cultural services and commissioned activities.
