OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1965 by namesake Carlo Reda, a industrialist, Reda has gone through a rapid evolution since its beginnings, transforming from a small mill supplier for local tailors to an important industrial wool production house that exports all over the world. The entire complex was then taken over in 1919 by the Botto Poala brothers and because they came from an artesian family of expert weavers, they have successfully passed on their know-how to the following generations. Reda fabrics continue to stand out for its unsurpassed quality and sophistication, thus allowing the company to grow at a rapid pace and meet the needs of the Italian high-end fashion industry.

Despite two World Wars and the damaging flood of 1968 that destroyed most of the factory’s buildings, the original woollen mill has managed to resist, thanks to the investments in research and innovation from the Botto Poala family. 1998 was a fundamental year in its development when the company inaugurated an additional new factory complex to meet its growing demand and exports, transitioning from a small family-run company to a consolidated international reality. It is in this year that Reda became the first company in the world to perfect its own “compact" spinning technology.

On April 24th, 2018, Reda announced its 100% acquisition of the historic Comero SpA, a full-cycle wool mill born in 1950 in the Italian city of Gattinara, with the aim of expanding the offer and achieving a penetration of the most widespread markets.

TRACEABILITY

Reda's woollen mill directly manages and controls the entire production chain, from the fleece to the finished product. The journey begins in New Zealand, in the 30,000 hectares of land owned by Glenrock Station, Rugged Ridges and Otamatapaio Station, where sheep are bred to produce the finest Merino wool. For Reda, quality-control is of the highest standards, used as both working tool and clear objective. It allows to them to fully understand how the wool mill is working properly preventing any defects thanks to a database system that is constantly being updated. This results in a customer guarantee of the highest levels of excellence, a Reda trademark with all its fabrics.

THE ENVIRONMENT

Attention to natural resources and respect for the environment are the pillars of the company. Since 2004 Reda can count on a technologically advanced and cutting-edge waste water treatment plant, which allows the recovery of waste water reused in the work cycles as industrial ones and the optimization of the 'consumption of water / kg of wool' ratio. "To produce a kilo of wool, it takes about 300 litres of water - says Ercole Botto Poala, CEO of Reda - but we are able to use only half of it." In 2009, Reda has equipped itself with a photovoltaic system to produce electricity through renewable sources to reduce the dependence of energy purchased externally and to preserve the environment more.

CIRCOLAR SOLUTIONS

In an age where garment waste is a global concern, Reda is committed to eliminating waste across the board. Reda believes that the future of fashion is circular. The company strives to recycle and repurpose each element used to create its lavish fabrics. Materials from the recombing stages of the -making process are collected and later turned into that go on to produce other garments throughout the industry.

THE FUTURE

The Reda Active line is the practical demonstration that materials can be both technologically advanced and sustainable. Breathability, easy drying, and comfort and biodegradability are the characteristics of these iconic fabrics of the future and are used for the sectors of technical sports, outdoor and aerospace.

During the June 2018 Italian Pitti Immagine Uomo 94 trade fair, Reda has presented its most recent product: Reda Active LIFEPROOF, a new high-performing and completely biodegradable membrane, created from the company’s innovative research and development.
