The President The White House Washington, D. c. 20500

Dear Mr. President,

Thank you for sending me your congratulations I on my reelection to the House. I was, and continue to be, very distressed over the fact that our campaign in behalf of your reelection was not successful. Without any doubt, your service in the White House was immeasurably beneficial to the American people and to our institution of government. You did a remarkably fine job!

I am convinced the vote of the electorate was not really based upon the worth of your personal leadership, so I urge you not to consider it as such.

My family and I send our most sincere best wishes to you, Betty, and your children. I certainly hope that your many lifelong friends here in the House have the c.pportunity to get to visit with you in the future as your time permits.

Respectfully yours, ~ ... J
