Introduction We are pleased to propose and host the next IRS at Valladolid, Spain, in August of 2016, to be held at the Valladolid Congress Centre, Avenida de Ramón Pradera, 47009 Valladolid, Spain. A view of the city of Valladolid with the Pisuerga river II. Motivation/rationale for holding the IRS in Valladolid Scientific Interest In the last decades, Spain has experienced a great growth comparatively to other countries in Europe and in the world, not only in the social and political aspects but also in the scientific research. Certainly Spain has a medium position in the world but it potential increases day by day. The research in Atmospheric Sciences has not a long tradition in our country, but precisely, its atmospheric conditions and geographical location makes it one of the best places for atmospheric studies, in topics as radiation, aerosols, etc…. , being a special region in Europe to analyse the impact of climate change. Hosting the IRS’2016 for the first time in Spain would produce an extraordinary benefit for all the Spanish scientific community, and particularly for those groups working in the atmospheric, meteorological and optics research fields. -

Crecidas E Inundaciones Durante El Invierno 2000-2001 En La Ciudad De Valladolid Y Su Entorno

Geographia Technica, Vol. 13, Issue 2, 2018, pp 114 to 124 FLUNETS: A NEW MATLAB-BASED TOOL FOR DRAINAGE NETWORK ORDERING BY HORTON AND HACK HIERARCHIES Candela PASTOR-MARTÍN1, Loreto ANTÓN1, Carlos FERNÁNDEZ-GONZÁLEZ2 DOI: 10.21163/GT_2018.132.09 ABSTRACT: This work presents FLUNETS (FLUvial NETwork Sorting tool), a new MATLAB-based tool designed for channel network ordering by Horton and Hack hierarchies. Differently to Strahler and Shreve hierarchies, Hack and Horton orderings allow organizing a drainage network in a hierarchy, identifying the parent segment over the child segment, giving as a result a network where the value of a river remains unchanged from the mouth upstream to the headwater. The novelty of FLUNETS is that it allows the user to choose the hierarchy attribute. Therefore, a fluvial network can be ordered by distance to the mouth or by accumulation upstream. In addition, FLUNETS offers a wide set of optional parameters, which turns it into a friendly tool to attain a highly tailored ordered fluvial network. A continuous fluvial network is the starting point for multiple landscape analysis applications. The source code is available in the authors’ GitHub account (https://github.com/geouned/FLUNETS). Key-words: Hydrology, Fluvial hierarchies, Channel network, Horton, Hack, Geomorphology. 1. INTRODUCTION In the last three decades advances in modelling Earth’s surface have been made due to the development of algorithms and computer simulation models (e.g. Refice et al., 2012). Land surface analysis, hydrogeology assessment, drainage network analysis, etc., they all had an extensive development since the 1980s (Jenson, 1985, O'Callaghan and Mark, 1984), and keep developing today (Schwanghart and Kuhn, 2010, Jasiewicz and Metz, 2011). -

ABSTRACT An analysis of flood events in the Pisuerga river basin (a tributary of River Duero) on the basis on flood records over the last 42 years (1959-2001). A typology of flood events is established taking account of the main responsible factors, while an assessment is carried out of the evolution of such events in the course of time as well as of the changes that have taken place as regards their inception. Finally, and on the basis of the above-said information, a hazard map is produced to the effect of showing the potential risk of flood in the valley. Key words: flood, valley of Pisuerga, hazard, potential risk. 1. -

Conflict and Chronicle in Twelfth-Century León-Castile: a Literary Study of the First Crónica Anónima of Sahagún
0 Conflict and Chronicle in Twelfth-Century León-Castile: a literary study of the first Crónica anónima of Sahagún Submitted by Ryan Evan Schwarzrock to the University of Exeter as a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in History December 2012 This thesis is available for Library use on the understanding that it is copyright material and that no quotation from the thesis may be published without proper acknowledgement. I certify that all material in this thesis which is not my own work has been identified and that no material has previously been submitted and approved for the award of a degree by this or any other University. (Signature) ……………………………………………………………………………… 1 Abstract This thesis argues that the first Crónica anónima of Sahagún was written for two primary historiographical purposes: (1) to address the problematic nature of the events with which the conflict between the monastery and the burghers of Sahagún comes to an end in order to construe these as a legitimate victory of the monastery over the burghers; and (2) to capitalise on this victory by presenting within the dramatic story of conflict and chaos the chronicle tells a novel version of the monastery’s lordship over the burghers. We approach this argument by way of five chapters. The first three of these chapters provide close readings of the narrative according to a three-part scheme which we have identified. Thus, chapter one covers part one, ‘the history of the monastery’, part two, ‘the outbreak of conflict’, and part three, ‘the resolution of the conflict’. We show in the course of these how the strict political and narrative order of the monastery’s history gives way to a complex narrative disorder which dramatises competition in the narrative among various political and ecclesiastical actors, and various social groups, at both the local and regional levels. -
