s many people have turned to na- ture during these unprecedented Atimes, it has become significantly more challenging to social distance when the trailheads are packed with cars and the trails are crowded with people who just want to get outside for fresh air and exercise. Many states have issued stay at home orders, and hikers are being urged to stay ‘low and local.’ It is strongly rec- ommended that people avoid traveling to other states to recreate at this time, as well as to avoid the larger, more chal- lenging peaks in an effort to minimize the likelihood of being injured and needing a rescue. Tom and I are happy that we were able to get one final winter ascent of a 4,000-foot peak last month, just days before the stay at home order was im- plemented in Massachusetts.
