We would like to extend our thanks to the many volunteers (officials and support staff) who have given up their time to help run this event. Without them the swimmers would not have a Championship to attend. SAFETY NOTES Everyone attending Hertfordshire A.S.A. events must take all necessary steps to ensure their own safety and the safety of others. Anyone observing anything they consider to be a safety hazard must report it immediately to the Referee and/or a member of the pool staff. Everyone must familiarise themselves with the locations of the emergency exits, which are clearly marked. The floor areas leading to the emergency exits must be kept clear at all times. In the event of an incident or need for evacuation of the building, The Venue staff will take charge and direct people as necessary. The Learner Pool is unsupervised and as such is out of bounds at all times during the gala. Sitting/standing/walking/running or jumping on the cover is forbidden. Swimmers must wear suitable clothing and footwear on poolside. Swimmers are NOT allowed in the spectator seating area. USE OF PHOTOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT: In accordance with the ASA Child Safeguarding Policies and Procedures any parents or carers of swimmers under the age of 18 who wish to take photographic or video images are requested to focus on their own child as much as reasonably possible and to avoid including other children in those images, particularly if those images are being shared with family and friends through social media platforms. STRICTLY NO PHOTOGRAPHS TO BE TAKEN IN THE CHANGING VILLAGE THIS APPLIES TO SPECTATORS, COACHES/TEAM MANAGERS, OFFICIALS and SWIMMERS PRESENTATIONS: There will be NO presentations of bannerettes made during the competition. NOTES FOR SWIMMERS & COACHES Coaches are not allowed into the marshalling area or behind the blocks/on the ramp. If coaches are in these areas they will be asked to leave. It is the responsibility of the competitors/coaches/clubs to ensure that all swimmers are qualified to the level of the “ASA Competitive Start Award”, to perform a dive start under the above conditions. There will be a one-way system in operation during racing in order to keep the area behind the blocks clear apart from officials. In the event of a false start, swimmers must continue with a shallow racing dive and NOT topple into the water head down as this is dangerous. No swimmers will be allowed to start in the water other than for Backstroke and Medley Relay events. REMEMBER : DIVING INTO SHALLOW WATER IS DANGEROUS Swimmers are reminded that they must NOT change on poolside – any swimmer observed changing on poolside will be asked to go to the changing village to change. • Whittemore Family of Hitchin, in the County of Hertford, England
    * THE WHITTEMORE FAMILY OF HITCHIN, IN THE COUNTY OF HERTFORD, ENGLAND. I propose to give the Genealogy of the Whitte more Family of Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England, or at least so much of it as will show that most, if not all, of those bearing the name in New England, and in other parts of the United States, descended from the Whittemore Family of Hitchin. It will be seen by the following Genealogy that the name there, at different periods, was spelled various- ly, but by tracing it we are enabled to prove it the same family that bears the name of Whittemore in America. The following is a verbatim copy, and the orthog raphy of names, from the Parish Register of Hitchin Vicarage, which was copied and sent by L. Hen- ly, the incumbent of said parish: 1562, October. • THE BEALE FAMILY in HERTFORDSHIRE Hitchin
THE BEALE FAMILY IN HERTFORDSHIRE Hitchin – 1477 The earliest mention of the family is on an inscription to a brass in Hitchin church. The inscription has now disappeared but was recorded by the antiquary Salmon as the effigies of a man and his wife wit their four sons and four daughters, in brass with this inscription: “Here lies John Beel and Marjorie his wife. The said Marjorie died on May 4th 1477, and John 14….. (date illegible)” Radwell – 1516 About five miles north east of Hitchin lies the church of All Saints, Radwell. A brass on the floor of the nave shows a man between two women, with two sons and two daughters, and bears the inscription “Pray for the soules of John Bele gentleman and Anne and Agnes hys wyfes, the whiche John decessed in the yere of our Lord God MVXVI”. Since polygamy was not permitted in those days, one must assume that Anne died before Agnes became Mrs Bele! Hertford, Hadley 1566 – 1582 A couple of entries in parish registers refer to Beales at Hertford in the 16th century. In 1566 Christian Beale, described as a traveller, was buried at Hertford, and Williame Bele married Alice Parkyn there in 1586. An Agnes Beale died at Earls Colne, near Halstead, Essex in 1510, and there is a tantalisingly brief reference to a William Beale of Hadley, Middlesex, who was left some property in the will of his friend John Pratt in 1582. Buckland 1570 – 1873 About four miles south of Royston, the hamlet of Buckland straddles the A10 road to Buntingford and Ware.
