* THE WHITTEMORE FAMILY OF , IN THE COUNTY OF , . I propose to give the Genealogy of the Whitte more Family of Hitchin, , England, or at least so much of it as will show that most, if not all, of those bearing the name in New England, and in other parts of the United States, descended from the Whittemore Family of Hitchin. THE WHITTEMORE FAMILY IN AMERICA,

John Whittemore was born in England, and came over a minor, with his father, Thomas Whittemore, in 1643, or about that time. On the records of Hitchin Parish, county of Herts, England, is an entry, "Feb. nth, 1638, baptized John, son of Thomas Whittemore." This John mar ried first, Mary Uplam. She died June 27th, 1677. Then he married Mary Miller, in Oct. 1677. Their children were Thomas, born in 1664; Joseph, born in 1666; Benjamin, born in 1669; Nathaniel, born in 1673; Joel, born in 1677; Mary, born in 1678; Pela tiah, born in 1680; Amos, born in 1681; Mary, born in 1683; Daniel, born in 1685; Rebecca, born in 1687, and Hanna, born in 1689. Benjamin, father of Rev. Aaron, born in Cam bridge, Mass., Sept. 1st, 1669, married Ester Brooks, Aug. 17th, 1692. He died Sept. 8th, 1734. She died Jan. 16th, 1742. Their children were Mary, born July 12th, 1694; Benjamin, born April 9th, 1696: Nathaniel, born Nov. 23d, 1698; Grace, born Mar. 20th, 1700; Ester, born May 3d, 1707; Aaron, born Dec. 13th, 1711. So it appeaas that our common ancestor is Thom as Whittemore, who came over from England in 1641, and settled in Maiden, Mass. He had several children, among whom was a John, who was Thom as' £&h son, from whom our family descended. This
