Some of these stories try to understand how they respond, ignore or adapt to change. Other stories function as mirrors in which a certain way of life, a certain place, is magnified. The stories set in US are interpretations of a new environment from the eyes of an immigrant community that is close‐knit but insular. Stylistically, a variety of voices, of points of view and identities have been adopted with varying syntax to heighten the manner in which characters perceive their individual realities, their individual stories. The stories have been arranged in the order of their achievement in realizing this vision. Monsoon Caught in Gulmohars By Jesal Harin Kanani Thesis submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School of the University of Maryland, College Park, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Fine Arts 2005 Advisory Committee: Prof. Merle Collins (Advisor), Chair Prof. Howard Norman Prof. Maud Casey © Copyright by Jesal Harin Kanani 2005 ii To: All the people in the world, whose stories are being silenced in the name of gender, nationality, beliefs, profession and religion; for everyone has a story, a story that has a greater need to be heard than be told.

    ||September 2015|| the Ruiaite monthly Bulletin Editorial नमश्कार Ruiaite! Ushering in our second issue of the monthly bulletin this academic year, it gives us immense pleasure to take our readers on tour to experience the reections of our society. We attempt to bring ahead repercussions of various events, contributions of eminent personalities, aspects of individuals and the likes that go by unnoticed, through the Bulletin. Just as we celebrate the Teacher’s Day this month, the Ruiaite Bulletin Team wishes all Teachers a Happy Teachers Day’! Bearing in mind that, the essence of transmission of knowledge, values and ideas lie in the unending process of learning and teaching, we bring across expressions that render obedience to everyone and everything around us, that constantly impart on us the lessons of life. In this Edition we mark two new beginings. The column ‘KNOW YOUR RUIA’ is introduced, wherein the undiscovered facts and les of our college would reach out to all. The second being, a Comic Strip ‘TLO’, a satirical account of an observant Ruiaite. Every activity, idea or interaction amongst the Team is enriching.
