Field #1 CCB 1500 E Janss Rd, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360 Field #2 CLU Sparky Anderson Field, 60 W Olsen Rd,1000 Oaks, Conejo Creek Ballpark Conejo Creek Ballpark (CCB) will be primary venue for the tournament. All teams will have their first game at CCB. Now after 14 seasons of play, the turf has matured, the seating capacity has been expanded, a snack shack is in place along with a press booth, audio system and state-of-the-art electronic scoreboard. This field became a reality though financial backing of the AMGEN Corporation, the City of Thousand Oaks, the Conejo Parks and Recreation District (CR&PD), California Lutheran University (CLU), Conejo Valley Little League (CVLL) and the Mike Scioscia Amateur Baseball Development Group (ABDG). The complex is under the control of the CR&PD and ABDG. The field is currently home to the District 13 Junior and Senior Leagues. This field is of Major League quality. The entire playing surface was laser leveled; grass is tiff-dwarf hybrid Bermuda in both the infield and outfield with Hilltopper, stabilizer Gold and Turface on the appropriate skin areas. The perimeter of the field is completely fenced and covered with screening. Protected dugouts are large and the protective rails / backstop are padded. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim grounds crew set the bases and home plate, built the mounds on both the diamond and in the enclosed bullpens. There are sun shades over the bleachers and batting cages adjacent to the field. Any player who had ever laced up a pair of spikes would drool over the prospect of playing on this field. Mike Scioscia Goes to Bat for Little League Angel’s manager, Dodger great, Thousand Oaks resident and Little League father Mike Scioscia worked with local officials to get CCB built and improved. The grand plan has always been to provide a venue for Little League that would facilitate re-establishment of Junior and Senior League Tournament play. Sparky Anderson Field at Ullman Stadium CLU baseball has been playing for 2-seasons in this remarkable stadium. A picture of the facility can be seen at http://www.clusports.com/baseball/ . CLU Head Coach Marty Slimak has always supported Little League and was the keynote speaker at the opening ceremonies for the 1993 Regional tournament Hosted by District 13. His son played for Moorpark LL and like many of us, has a dream of seeing a world class Tournaments in Thousand Oaks at his field. In addition to being a full service facility, the Stadium is setup with camera wells and connectivity to support telecasting. • Dimaggio's Other Streak
General Admission DiMaggio’s Other Streak by S. Derby Gisclair Member, Society for American Baseball Research In 1933, Joe DiMaggio was an 18-year old rookie playing for his hometown San Francisco Seals in the Class AA Pacific Coast League (PCL). An unknown who had been playing semi-pro ball two years earlier as a newsboy, his name was often misspelled in the press of the day as De Maggio, even after he broke the PCL record for hitting safely in consecutive games set in 1915 by Jack Ness. It wasn’t until Seals owner and PCL vice-president Charley Graham was making arrangements to have DiMaggio’s name engraved on a gold watch presented to him for breaking the record that the question arose. After all, Joe’s older brother Vince, a former Seal who was then playing with the Hollywood Stars, spelled his name DiMaggio. Joe had actually played 3 games at shortstop with the Seals at the end of the 1932 season and had only been invited to spring training in 1933 after his brother Vince argued his case to manager Lefty O’Doul. It worked out well for Joe, who the team signed, but not so well for Vince, who the team released. Luckily for DiMaggio and for the fans in San Francisco, O’Doul moved him from shortstop to right field. DiMaggio was very erratic, always overthrowing the first baseman. His throwing arm was better suited to an outfielder and he was a pretty fair hitter. No one had any idea of what was to come.

Summary: The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of the Spanish language and the remarkable contribution to Major League Baseball by Spanish- American players. Keywords: baseball, sports, Major League Baseball, Spanish, Latinos Introduction The purpose of this paper is to highlight the remarkable contribution made to Major League Baseball (MLB) by players from Spanish America both in terms of © Orlando Alba Baseball: a U.S. Sport with a Spanish-American Stamp Informes del Observatorio / Observatorio Reports. 017-01/2016EN ISSN: 2373-874X (online) doi: 10.15427/OR017-01/2016EN Instituto Cervantes at FAS - Harvard University © Instituto Cervantes at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Harvard University quantity and quality.1 The central idea is that the significant and valuable Spanish-American presence in the sports arena has a very positive impact on the collective psyche of the immigrant community to which these athletes belong. Moreover, this impact extends beyond the limited context of sport since, in addition to the obvious economic benefits for many families, it enhances the image of the Spanish-speaking community in the United States. At the level of language, contact allows English to influence Spanish, especially in the area of vocabulary, which Spanish assimilates and adapts according to its own peculiar structures. Baseball, which was invented in the United States during the first half of the nineteenth century, was introduced into Spanish America about thirty or forty years later.

EncyclopedicBy S. BassinThe book is very thorough, although it seemed to drag toward the end.Interesting that the source material seems to be largely Casey's interactions with reporters and writers. Relatively little from former players and coaches. The biggest failing is that I finished the book wondering about what made Stengel successful as a manager. Most of what I know is that he managed great players and handled the press well. I wanted more.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Stengel - Nobody's Fool!By Timothy SchumAppel's time with Stengel helped make this book a very interesting read but he obviously minutely researched the early career of the man and honored his playing career as well as his salad days at Yankee manager. I learned what a good player Casey was as well as an appreciation of the fact that his early reputation as a bit of a clown was probably not justified.

  • PDC and Relationship with Major League Baseball
Minor League Baseball – PDC And Relationship With Major League Baseball The National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, now known as Minor League Baseball comprises teams that are independently owned and operated from Major League Baseball Franchises. The Las Vegas Aviators Professional Baseball team is owned and operated by Summerlin Baseball Club LLC. The Oakland Athletics Major League Baseball team is Owned/Managing Partner, John Fisher. Minor League Teams are then directly “affiliated” with one Major League team through a standardized Player Development Contract (PDC). Minor and Major League teams may enter into a PDC for a two- or four-year term and may reaffiliate at the expiration of a PDC term. The purpose of the PDC is to develop players available to play in the Major Leagues on demand. The manager, coaching staff, trainer, strength coach and players of the Triple-A affiliate are employed by the Major League affiliate through the PDC. (Las Vegas Aviators manager, coaches and players are employed by the Oakland Athletics). There is a total of 30 Triple-A cities that comprise the 14-team International League and the 16-team Pacific Coast League…therefore the 30 Major League Teams have PDC’s with the 30 Triple-A teams. History: Las Vegas Professional Baseball franchise – member of the Pacific Coast League since 1983: Las Vegas Stars (1983-2000, 18 seasons) - Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, 1,227-1,329 (.480), 7 playoff appearances & two PCL Championships (1986 & 1988). Las Vegas 51s (2001-08, 8 seasons) - Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, 561-586 (.489), 1 playoff appearance.
