  • When Poutine Calls: 6 Delicious Poutines to Try in San Diego
When Poutine Calls: 6 Delicious Poutines to Try in San Diego By Darlene Horn | November 25, 2015 In its purest form, poutine — a beloved Canadian dish that requires little adornment — is just French fries, chicken gravy and squeaky cheese curds. Lately, we've noticed poutine popping up all over San Diego, and local chefs are adding a new spin. See Jsix's "poutine" with rabbit and tomato sauce as exhibit A. With the exception of one poutine on this list, forget any debates about authenticity. You will, however, find all of these poutine variations undeniably delicious. Mexican Poutine at The Crack Shack One of Little Italy's most highly anticipated restaurants mashes up Mexican flavors with fried potato goodness. Resembling carne asada fries, the main protein in this dish uses marinated chicken with jalapeño cheese sauce and pico de gallo. 2266 Kettner Blvd.; 619-795-3299 Poutine at Mess Royale From imported Montreal bagels to toasties, Canadian food rules at this Hillcrest eatery, and it doesn't get any more authentic than the poutine. Start with the basic dish that's got housemade chicken gravy and squeaky cheese curds on top and move your way to other unique combinations, like ones topped with bacon, NY–style pastrami or Italian sausage. 142 University Ave.; 619-578-2909 Chowder Fries at South Park Brewing Clam chowder is perfect as-is, but it transforms into an entirely new dish with the addition of this South Park bar's famous handcut fries. Available as an appetizer or as a side to one of restaurant's bigger entrées, it pairs well with any one of the handcrafted beers brewed on the premises.

Pitas and Passports: Arab Foodways in the Windsor-Detroit Borderlands Robert L. Nelson Mashriq & Mahjar: Journal of Middle East and North African Migration Studies, Volume 6, Number 2, 2019, (Article) Published by Moise A. Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies For additional information about this article https://muse.jhu.edu/article/778315/summary [ Access provided at 30 Sep 2021 02:57 GMT with no institutional affiliation ] Mashriq & Mahjar 6, no. 2 (2019) ISSN 2169-4435 Robert L. Nelson PITAS AND PASSPORTS: ARAB FOODWAYS IN THE WINDSOR-DETROIT BORDERLANDS Abstract Virtually all North American border foodways literature focuses on the U.S. Southwest, where an international boundary runs through an ethnic foodway. This research is enormously valuable, but Mexican food in the Southwest does not tell us much about a diasporic border-food community. What do we learn when we study an international boundary running through an ethnic minority, such as the Arab community that exists on both sides of the Windsor/Detroit border? When a foodway already struggles to find its identity within a hegemonic culture, how does that food community negotiate an international state difference right in its midst? Before 9/11, a “soft” border allowed for the existence of a large, interactive, regional cross-border Arab foodway. Since then, the thickening of that border has rapidly accelerated the formation of an “Arab Canadian” foodway in Windsor. In the fall of 2017, I went to lunch at Windsor’s most upscale Lebanese restaurant, Mazaar. As I laid eyes on the menu, one dish jumped out at me: shawarma poutine.

The Dutch viewer, in turn can reply in the comments section and can show their agreement or disagreement with this national identity. For this research seven travel vlogs about the Netherlands were analysed via the method of thematic analysis to determine the Dutch viewer's thoughts on the national identity portrayed in the travel vlogs about their country. The Dutch viewers were most proud of Dutch cuisine and travel vloggers trying out these dishes. Whenever Dutch viewers did not agree with the travel vlogger, they would debunk their information and provide the information they believed to be correct. Sometimes the viewer would also add to the theme when they felt some information was lacking. Van den Berg 2 Van den Berg 3 Introduction The Netherlands officially became an independent country in 1648 with the Peace of Münster, when the war with Spain finally came to an end.1 From here it took some time before the Netherlands truly became one nation with one story.
