For the matters mentioned above, having consulted the Transport and Housing Bureau, the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD), PlanD and HyD, the Development Bureau hereby provides a consolidated reply as follows: (a) Planning and Engineering Study on Sunny Bay Reclamation 3. When conducting the planning and engineering study on Sunny Bay Reclamation, we will explore development proposals with different land uses, inter alia, developing a multi-purpose venue for leisure and entertainment purposes, hotels and resorts, an international motor racing circuit, a large-scale entertainment and performance complex, recreational fisheries, logistics facilities, etc. Considering the unprecedented hit at the Hong Kong’s economy caused by the COVID-19 epidemic over the past year or so, profoundly affecting the travel and entertainment industries, we must exercise prudence in reviewing the priority of project implementation and seek funding approval for the related study from the Public Works Subcommittee and the Finance Committee at an appropriate time.

West Rail Overview 2. West Rail Phase I is a 30.5-km domestic twin-track passenger railway linking Sham Shui Po in West Kowloon with Tuen Mun. It has nine stations and passes through five districts: Sham Shui Po, Kwai Tsing, Tsuen Wan, Yuen Long, and Tuen Mun. West Rail will interchange with the MTR system and KCRC’s Light Rail, forming an integrated rail network. 3. West Rail will serve 340,000 passengers a day on system opening in December 2003. The patronage is forecast to grow to 500,000 a day by the year 2011. 4. The Key features of West Rail are as follows: - Viaduct 13.4 km (44%) - Bored tunnel 9.0 km (30%) - Enclosed Structure at grade 3.2 km (10%) - Cut-and-cover tunnel 2.5 km ( 8%) - Open surface 2.4 km ( 8%) - Number of Stations 9 - Size of Maintenance Centre 32.5 hectares - Construction commencement date Oct 1998 - Target opening date Dec 2003 I:\yr00-01\english\010711\A1737E01.DOC Page 2 of 12 Progress of the Project 5. The project is making very good progress, with 80 % of the civil engineering work now complete and all major milestones achieved on time or ahead of schedule.     ARUP 60TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR KCRC WEST RAIL SPECIAL ISSUE The Arup Journal 3/2006 Foreword For 20 years the Kowloon-Canton F a1lway Corporat on has been a significant client for Arup in Hong Kong This period has seen a substantial growth of th KCRC's railway network to meet the needs of an expanding population in Hong Kong, and rapidly developing domestic and inter-city services with maJor cities in mainland China. As the first railway company in Hong Kong opening in 1910, the KCRC operated domestic, cross-boundary and inter-city railway services for most of the 20th century on what 1s now known as East Rail. However, the KCRC in its role as a public corporation has become a planner, designer and builder of maJor new railway networks, in response to Hong Kong's development. Since 2003, new lines have been added to the network with the 1rnt1al phase of West Rail which 1s covered in this special issue of The Arup Journal followed in 2004 by the extensions for East Rail on Ma On Shan Rail and the Ts1m Sha Tsu, Extension. Our projects for these lines, together with our involvement in the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, will be covered in a further special issue of The Arup Journal.
