September 1, 2021 Page 1 of 42 Electoral History for Halifax Chebucto Halifax Chebucto In 1966, an amendment ot the House of Assembly Act (SNS 1966, c. 34) divided Halifax North into Halifax City North East and Halifax City North West. These districts were subsequently changed in 1967 through another amendment to the House of Assembly Act (SNS 1967, c. 46), and Halifax City North West became Halifax Chebucto. [reference?]. In 2003, Halifax Chebucto Gained an area at its southern boundary between Quinpool Rd. and Jubilee Rd. from Halifax Citadel. In 2013, following the recommendations of the 2012 Electoral Boundaries Commission report, this district expanded to include the area south of Robie Street and east of Young Street from Halifax Needham. It also gained the area west of Robie Street and north of Coburg Road from Halifax Citadel- Sable Island. It lost the area north of Bayers Road and east of Connaught Avenue to Halifax Needham and the area north of Bayers Road and west of Connaught Avenue to Fairview-Clayton Park. In 2021, using Windsor Street as a dividing line, some of Halifax Needham was moved to Halifax Chebucto.

Halifax (NS) Alderman 1841-1841 Ward 5 West, Conrod Halifax (NS) Common 1841-1841 Ward 5 Councillor Binney, Stephen Halifax (NS) Mayor 1841-1842 Born March 24, 1805, seventh child of the Hon. Hibbert Newton Binney (1766-1842) and Lucy Creighton, daughter of the Hon. John Creighton. Binney married Emily Pryor (1808-1890) on Oct. 15, 1828. Emily's father was William Pryor (1776-1859), a Halifax merchant. They had seven children: William Grant (1829-1835), Hibbert Stephen (1832-1842), Lucy Parker (b.1834), Emily (1837), Charles (1839-1939), William Pryor (b.1840), and Irvine Whitty (b.1841). Stephen was elected to the first Halifax City Council and was elected Mayor by that same Council. He served as Mayor from October 1841 to March 1842. Binney left for England on Jan. 3, 1842 on personal business. While in England, Binney took it upon himself to present the address of congratulation to the Queen on the birth of the Prince of Wales. When his leave of absence ended, Alderman Kenny was appointed Mayor to finish Binney's term. Binney returned Halifax in 1842. On Nov. 20, 1843, he purchased land with a wharf and shipyard in Lewisville, N.B., 1 mile northeast of "The Bend," now Moncton. In addition to owning a shipyard, he also had ownership of wholesale businesses involved in lumber, flour and feed. He became a shipbuilder and prominent businessman. He built a house in suburban Lewisville overlooking his shipyard.
