Zaufanie Do Polityków W Kwietniu
Warszawa, kwiecień 2013 BS/53/2013 ZAUFANIE DO POLITYKÓW W KWIETNIU Znak jakości przyznany CBOS przez Organizację Firm Badania Opinii i Rynku 11 stycznia 2013 roku Fundacja Centrum Badania Opinii Społecznej ul. Wykluczonemu ostatnio z SLD Ryszardowi Kaliszowi ufa 46% respondentów, nieco mniej osób (43%) deklaruje zaufanie do szefa polskiej dyplomacji. Kolejne miejsca na liście najczęściej obdarzanych zaufaniem polityków zajmują: lider SLD Leszek Miller (36%), wiceprzewodniczący PO Grzegorz Schetyna (35%), premier Donald Tusk i przewodniczący Solidarnej Polski Zbigniew Ziobro (po 34% deklaracji zaufania) oraz prezes PiS Jarosław Kaczyński (33%). Nieco rzadziej z zaufaniem respondentów spotykają się inni prominentni politycy rządzącej koalicji: minister sprawiedliwości Jarosław Gowin (31%), marszałek Sejmu Ewa Kopacz (30%) oraz szef PSL, wicepremier i minister gospodarki Janusz Piechociński (28%). Prawie jedna czwarta badanych ufa liderowi NSZZ „Solidarność” Piotrowi Dudzie (24%) i niemal tyle samo (23%) deklaruje zaufanie do szefa sejmowego zespołu ds. -
In Annual Speeches of the Republic of Poland Ministers of Foreign Affairs After 2001
Przegląd Strategiczny 2017, nr 10 Piotr POCHYŁY DOI : 10.14746/ps.2017.1.12 University of Zielona Góra THE CONCEPT OF “SECURITY” IN ANNUAL SPEECHES OF THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND MINISTERS OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AFTER 2001 The purpose of the publication is to present how the concept of security has been de- fined in annual speeches of Poland’s foreign ministers after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Research problem: the impact of the international situation on ways of ensuring Po- land’s security in the annual speeches of Polish foreign ministers. Apart from the as- pect of classically understood security, the analysis also covers modern categories of security that is economic, public, ecological, energy or food security. The temporal range is from 2001 to 2017. Following the definition in the Polish Language Diction- ary published by PWN I define “security” as “the state of non-threat” (Bezpieczeństwo, 2017). * * * Every year foreign ministers of Poland give their annual speeches – officially known as the Information of the Foreign Minister on the goals of foreign policy, in which they define priorities, characterize challenges, and present corrections to the policy. Sometimes it is just an ordinary fulfilment of the obligation, which does not provoke greater conflicts or reflections and is presented in the nearly empty hall, but since 2010, after the plane crash near Smolensk, there have been very exciting debates connected with disputes in the Parliament (speeches given by Radosław Sikorski between 2011–2014), also in connection to responsibility for state security. The speeches which were urgent responses to events in the world (Sikorski, 2014) and the ones that were given when new governments came to power: (Cimoszewicz, 2002; Meller, 2006; Sikorski, 2008; Sikorski, 2012; Waszczykowski, 2016) will be particularly relevant to the search for answers to the research problem because apart from presenting current issues the ministers were obliged to discuss four-year for- eign policy assumptions. -
THE POLISH RES PUBLICA of NATIONAL and ETHNIC Minorities from the PIASTS to the 20TH CENTURY
PRZEGLĄD ZACHODNI 2014, No. II MARCELI KOSMAN Poznań THE POLISH RES PUBLICA OF NATIONAL AND ETHNIC MINORITIES FROM THE PIASTS TO THE 20TH CENTURY Początki Polski [The Beginnings of Poland], a fundamental work by Henryk Łowmiański, is subtitled Z dziejów Słowian w I tysiącleciu n.e. [On the History of Slavs in the 1st Millennium A.D.]. Its sixth and final volume, divided into two parts, is also titled Poczatki Polski but subtitled Polityczne i społeczne procesy kształtowania się narodu do początku wieku XIV [Political and Social Processes of Nation Forma- tion till the Beginning of the 14th Century]1. The subtitle was changed because the last volume concerns the formation of the Piast state and emergence of the Polish nation. Originally, there were to be three volumes. The first volume starts as follows: The notion of the beginnings of Poland covers two issues: the genesis of the state and the genesis of the nation. The two issues are closely connected since a state is usually a product of a specific ethnic group and it is the state which, subsequently, has an impact on the transformation of its people into a higher organisational form, i.e. a nation.2 The final stage of those processes in Poland is relatively easily identifiable. It was at the turn of the 10th and 11th century when the name Poland was used for the first time to denote a country under the superior authority of the duke of Gniezno, and the country inhabitants, as attested in early historical sources.3 It is more difficult to determine the terminus a quo of the nation formation and the emergence of Po- land’s statehood. -

Jewish Behavior During the Holocaust
VICTIMS’ POLITICS: JEWISH BEHAVIOR DURING THE HOLOCAUST by Evgeny Finkel A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Political Science) at the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN–MADISON 2012 Date of final oral examination: 07/12/12 The dissertation is approved by the following members of the Final Oral Committee: Yoshiko M. Herrera, Associate Professor, Political Science Scott G. Gehlbach, Professor, Political Science Andrew Kydd, Associate Professor, Political Science Nadav G. Shelef, Assistant Professor, Political Science Scott Straus, Professor, International Studies © Copyright by Evgeny Finkel 2012 All Rights Reserved i ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This dissertation could not have been written without the encouragement, support and help of many people to whom I am grateful and feel intellectually, personally, and emotionally indebted. Throughout the whole period of my graduate studies Yoshiko Herrera has been the advisor most comparativists can only dream of. Her endless enthusiasm for this project, razor- sharp comments, constant encouragement to think broadly, theoretically, and not to fear uncharted grounds were exactly what I needed. Nadav Shelef has been extremely generous with his time, support, advice, and encouragement since my first day in graduate school. I always knew that a couple of hours after I sent him a chapter, there would be a detailed, careful, thoughtful, constructive, and critical (when needed) reaction to it waiting in my inbox. This awareness has made the process of writing a dissertation much less frustrating then it could have been. In the future, if I am able to do for my students even a half of what Nadav has done for me, I will consider myself an excellent teacher and mentor. -

Józef Piłsudski decided not to run in 1922, because the presidential competency was in his opinion too limited to influence the fate of the State. On 9, December 1922 the National Assembly finally electected Gabriel Narutowicz to be the first President. However, in the next few days, the far right (nationalists) parties and the press attacked the newly elected President. They claimed, he was elected mainly because of the support of the national minorities and leftist parties. As a result of the tense atmosphere, the President was killed – shot by an assassin – just a couple of days after taking an oath. -

Poles and Jews: the Quest for Self-Determination 1919- 1934
Poles and Jews: The Quest For Self-Determination 1919- 1934 By Feigue Cieplinski Poland became an independent nation against all odds in the interwar period and retained her sovereignty from 1919 to 1939; hence the concept “interwar Poland.” The vicissitudes of her existence earned her the name of “God’s Playground.” [1] The Jews within her borders shared her history since 1240 C.E. Their freedoms during this period, unequaled in other places of Western Europe, earned Poland the Biblical allusion of “New Canaan.” [2] In contrast, some scholars have described Poland’s Jewry in the interwar Republic as being “On the Edge Of Destruction.” [3] That Polish Jewry was in distress is attested by the urgent visit of Mr. Neville Laski, a member of the British Joint Foreign Committee closely associated with the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the Joint Distribution Committee, in 1934. [4] His August visit fell between two historical events framing Polish Jewry’s status: seven months before, in January of that year, Poland and Germany signed a bilateral non- aggression declaration and in September Colonel Josef Beck, as Foreign Minister, announced in Geneva, his country’s unilateral abrogation of the Minorities Treaty in force since 1919. The scholars listed below have studied separately either the birth of Poland and the imposition of the Minorities Protection Treaty, the rapprochement between Poland and Germany, or the situation of the Jews in Poland. However, they have paid scant attention to the nexus between the rise of Hitler, the rapprochement between Poland and Germany, the demise of the Minorities Protection Treaty, and the consequent worsening situation of Polish Jewry.
