Press Release.Indd POP! The Incredible, Fantastic Retro Pop World of Dana Countryman Press Release Dana Countryman’s new CD “Pop! The Incredible, Fantastic Retro Pop Music of Dana Countryman” has been released on Sterling Swan Records. The album features 17 sparkling new vocal pop songs, written by Countryman, in many classic ‘retro’ pop styles. Over the years, Countryman has worn quite a few hats in his musical career. He started writing songs as a teenager. At 19, Countryman started performing in Detroit, playing bass and singing in his first band, The Sparklers, a Beatles copy band. After that, he spent several years living in Hollywood, writing songs there. In the late ‘70s, he was the leader of a Swing vocal group that performed big band tunes at Holiday Inns in Reno, Nevada. In the 1980’s, he was the leader and songwriter for Seattle comedy vocal group THE AMAZING PINK THINGS. The Pink Things performed on both coasts of the USA, and made television appearances on The Arsenio Hall Show, the A&E Network, and The Jerry Lewis Telethon, to name a few. The Pink Things also sang the national anthem at a Seattle Mariners’ game, and appeared as themselves in a television commercial for The American Cancer Society. One of their songs made the “Funny Five”, on the nationally-syndicated Dr. Demento radio show. In 2006, Countryman partnered with legendary pioneer electronic musician JEAN-JACQUES PERREY, recording two CDs of crazy electronic Moog music with him, and the two appeared in concert together, both in Europe and in America. Their song “Chicken On The Rocks” was featured on The Comedy Channel’s TV series, “SOUTH PARK”. More recently, Countryman wrote a book about Perrey’s life, and released a CD of his own cartoonish electronic instrumental Moog music. Now, Countryman has shifted gears once again, and has returned to his early singer-songwriter roots. “I started writing and singing pop songs as a teenager, and in those days, my dream was to write and record an entire album of my own material. When I was 20 years old, I moved to Hollywood to pursue that dream. But back then, I was very, very shy, so after I left Hollywood, nobody really knew I had ever been there!”, Countryman says. “I did, however, write tons of songs during my time in Hollywood. Those were kind of my self-taught ‘college years.’ I learned a lot. It was actually great musical training.” Now, all these years later, Countryman is finally realizing his teenage dream by recording and releasing his first album of all-original songs. Countryman’s “Pop!” album starts off very energetically. “I wanted to start the album, by singing some of my very upbeat, ‘60s-influenced songs. Then, about half-way through, the album shifts gears and heads more into ‘70s ‘Carpenters’-styled soft rock, including an ‘80s-styled power ballad.” Countryman plays most of the instruments on the album. He says, “I sing the majority of the vocals on the album, including harmonies, but I also wanted to bring in several guest lead vocalists. It just adds extra spice to bring in other talented singers, who can actually sing some of these songs better than me!” Guest musicians include Dee Long (Klaatu), and guest lead singers include nationally-recognized singers Scott Krippayne, Wally Reddington III (The Explorer’s Club), as well as R&B newcomer Jimmie Herrod, and Countryman’s own vocalist wife, Tricia Countryman. “Tricia had been bugging me for a long time to sing a duet with her on my song ‘I Lie Awake and Dream of You’, so that’s on this album.” Coming full circle, one of the songs featured on the album is a song called “For Now And Forever”‑ the first song that a teenage Dana Countryman wrote at the tender age of 16. “Pop! The Incredible, Fantastic Retro Pop Music of Dana Countryman” showcases Countryman’s ability to write in a variety of musical ‘retro’ styles, ranging from Bubble-Pop, Motown-esque 60s’ R&B, to 70’s-styled Power Pop, rocky ‘80s power ballads, to love songs that would have made the Carpenters proud. “I have no interest in hip-hop, or other current styles. My heart is firmly entrenched in the classic songwriting styles of the ’60s through the ‘80s. That’s just how I’m hard-wired. I studied those albums by The Carpenters and Bread, for example. They wrote great songs in those days, and that’s the kind of music I still love. I proudly call what I do ‘retro’ pop music. This music really makes me happy, and that’s the bottom line. I write it and produce it because I have to! This kind of music just makes me feel good. My hope is that it makes other people feel good, too.” “Pop! The Incredible, Fantastic Retro Pop Music of Dana Countryman” is a refreshing “blast from the past”, with a modern spin. The album is available as a physical CD or as a digital download. Available on iTunes, CDBaby, Amazon.com, and worldwide digital outlets. PERFORMED IDENTITIES: HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS BETWEEN 1984 AND 1991 Bradley C. Klypchak A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2007 Committee: Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Dr. John Makay Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Ron E. Shields Dr. Don McQuarie © 2007 Bradley C. Klypchak All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

  • An Original Rock Musical from Lord Graham Russell of the Renowned Rock Group Air Supply
AN ORIGINAL ROCK MUSICAL FROM LORD GRAHAM RUSSELL OF THE RENOWNED ROCK GROUP AIR SUPPLY awallapart.com STORY SYNOPSIS Brothers Kurt, Mickey and Hans were born and raised in war time Berlin, their parents perishing in the bombings of Berlin at the very end of the war. As the eldest, Hans took on the responsibility of raising his two younger siblings. Following the war he joined the East German border police and eventually became committed to the Communist cause. He is in a sense “too old” to be part of - and appreciate - the political movement of the 60’s throughout the world and in Berlin. He views his job and the support he received from the Communist party as the reason he and his siblings survived. Mickey and his new wife Susanne, on the other hand, don’t see it that way at all. As the story be- gins, Kurt is much more closely aligned with his brother Hans. He accepts that the Communist party is the path for him. Falling in love with Esther changes everything. Their love story covers 28 years. These three brothers are bound by blood and history but from the very start of the play are sharply divided by politics. Kurt’s is an epic journey from blind certainty of the true life path to questioning himself, his identity, and his choices but never his undying love for Esther. • When Are Soft Rocks Tough, and Hard Rocks Weak? a Discussion About the Toughness/Resistance of Rocks in Different Places
Earthlearningidea – https://www.earthlearningidea.com When are soft rocks tough, and hard rocks weak? A discussion about the toughness/resistance of rocks in different places Normally, the toughest and most resistant rocks (often called harder rocks) would be found at the tops of mountains, hills and plateaus (because they are most resistant to weathering and erosion) and the weaker, less resistant rocks (often called softer rocks) are at lower levels – but this doesn’t always happen. Why should this be? Sorting out the words Geoscientists often say ‘hard’ for tough rocks and ‘soft’ for weaker rocks – but most people use the word ‘soft’ differently. An internet search shows that to most people, ‘soft’ to the touch means: spongy, fluffy, delicate, smooth or flexible, but to a geoscientist it simply means a rock weaker than most rocks. Geological ‘soft rocks’ include clay, shale, chalk, etc. Meanwhile ‘hard rocks’ to a geoscientist are most igneous and metamorphic rocks and well-cemented sedimentary rocks. Another possible confusion is that some geoscientists use the term ‘hard rocks’ to mean all Railway tunnel into a chalk cliff, Le Treport, Normandy, igneous and metamorphic rocks (even though France. some of these are less ‘hard’) and the term ‘soft Image licensed by Philippe Alès under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license. rocks’ for all sedimentary rocks (even though some are pretty tough). Hard rock low land Although igneous rocks are usually very tough But even when you use the terms in the same and resistant, and so make higher land, the way as geoscientists do, we still find that some minerals that make up darker-coloured igneous ‘soft rocks’ make hills and some ‘hard rocks’ form rocks can be less resistant to weathering and valleys.

  • The White Animals
The 5outh 'r Greatert Party Band Playr Again: Narhville 'r Legendary White AniMalr Reunite to 5old-0ut Crowdr By Elaine McArdle t's 10 p.m. on a sweltering summer n. ight in Nashville and standing room only at the renowned Exit/In bar, where the crowd - a bizarre mix of mid Idle-aged frat rats and former punk rockers - is in a frenzy. Some drove a day or more to get here, from Florida or Arizona or North Carolina. Others flew in from New York or California, even the Virgin Islands. One group of fans chartered a jet from Mobile, Ala. With scores of people turned away at the door, the 500 people crushed into the club begin shouting song titles before the music even starts. "The White Animals are baaaaaaack!" bellows one wild-eyed thirty something, who appears mainstream in his khaki shorts and docksiders - until you notice he reeks of patchouli oil and is dripping in silver-and-purple mardi gras beads, the ornament of choice for White Animals fans. Next to him, a mortgage banker named Scott Brown says he saw the White Animals play at least 20 times when he was an undergrad at the University of Tennessee. He wouldn't have missed this long-overdue reunion - he saw both the Friday and Saturday shows - for a residential closing on Mar-A-Lago. Lead singer Kevin Gray, a one-time medical student who dropped his stud ies in 1978 to work in the band fulltime, steps onto the stage and peers out into the audience, recognizing faces he hasn't seen in more than a decade.

Because of the effect of various factors, such as high stress, ground water and so on, trackless transport roadways in deep mine areas were difficult to effectively support for a long time by using traditional supporting design methods. To deal with this problem, some innovative works were carried out in this paper. First, mineral composition and microstructure, anisotropic, hydraulic mechanical properties and other mechanical parameters of red shale were tested in a laboratory to reveal its deformation and failure characteristics from the aspect of lithology. Then, some numerical simulation about the failure process of the roadways in layered red shale strata was implemented to investigate the change regulation of stress and strain in the surrounding rock, according to the real rock mechanical parameters and in-situ stress data. Therefore, based on the composite failure law and existing support problems of red shale roadways, some effective methods and techniques were adopted, especially a kind of new wave-type bolt that was used to relieve rock expansion and plastic energy to prevent concentration of stress and excess Citation: Ma, C.; Xu, J.; Tan, G.; Xie, deformation.

A Business Perspective Number of Pages 45 Date 22.03.2018 Degree Bachelor of Business Administration Degree Programme International Business and Logistics Instructor(s) Michael Keaney, Senior Lecturer Rock music has great importance in the recent history of human kind, and it is interesting to understand the reasons of its de- cline, if it actually exists. Its legacy will never disappear, and it will always be a great influence for new artists but is important to find out the reasons why it has become what it is in now, and what is the expected future for the genre. This project is going to be focused on the analysis of some im- portant business aspects related with rock music and its de- cline, if exists. The collapse of Gibson guitars will be analyzed, because if rock music is in decline, then the collapse of Gibson is a good evidence of this. Also, the performance of independ- ent and major record labels through history will be analyzed to understand better the health state of the genre. The same with music festivals that today seem to be increasing their popularity at the expense of smaller types of live-music events. • Nowag Music Collection
Nowag Music Collection Processed by Alessandro Secino 2015 Memphis and Shelby County Room Memphis Public Library and Information Center 3030 Poplar Avenue Memphis, TN 38111 Nowag Music Collection Historical Sketch The Nowag-Williams talent agency operated during a time when the Memphis music scene was undergoing drastic changes. In 1975 Stax Records, a staple of the Memphis music industry, shut down. Two years later Elvis Presley was dead. It seemed that the bedrock of the Memphis music scene was being torn up during the late ‘70s. Disco, Punk, and Hip-Hop replaced the sounds of Blues, Soul, and Rock n’ Roll music across the country. Despite these changes in the Memphis music scene, Craig Nowag and his partner Bubba Williams, through the Nowag-Williams talent agency, kept the faltering music industry in Memphis going strong during a period of changing tastes and styles. The Nowag-Williams agency represented artists from all over the South, including bands such as Good Question, Delta, Joyce Cobb, Montage, and countless others. Between 1975 and 1978 the Nowag-Williams agency split, and Craig Nowag formed Craig Nowag’s National Artist Attractions. Nowag was widely respected in the music industry and was responsible for organizing the Pinebluff Freedom Festival, Graceland Nostalgia Festival, and performance deals with Sam’s Town Casino in Tunica Mississippi. Nowag was also enlisted to organize events for the Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce, and the Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism. One of Nowag’s more notable clients was British singer Peter Noone, formerly the lead of Herman’s Hermits, a band that was a big part of the British Invasion in the 1960s.

  • Glam Rock by Barney Hoskyns 1
Glam Rock By Barney Hoskyns There's a new sensation A fabulous creation, A danceable solution To teenage revolution Roxy Music, 1973 1: All the Young Dudes: Dawn of the Teenage Rampage Glamour – a word first used in the 18th Century as a Scottish term connoting "magic" or "enchantment" – has always been a part of pop music. With his mascara and gold suits, Elvis Presley was pure glam. So was Little Richard, with his pencil moustache and towering pompadour hairstyle. The Rolling Stones of the mid-to- late Sixties, swathed in scarves and furs, were unquestionably glam; the group even dressed in drag to push their 1966 single "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" But it wasn't until 1971 that "glam" as a term became the buzzword for a new teenage subculture that was reacting to the messianic, we-can-change-the-world rhetoric of late Sixties rock. When T. Rex's Marc Bolan sprinkled glitter under his eyes for a TV taping of the group’s "Hot Love," it signaled a revolt into provocative style, an implicit rejection of the music to which stoned older siblings had swayed during the previous decade. "My brother’s back at home with his Beatles and his Stones," Mott the Hoople's Ian Hunter drawled on the anthemic David Bowie song "All the Young Dudes," "we never got it off on that revolution stuff..." As such, glam was a manifestation of pop's cyclical nature, its hedonism and surface show-business fizz offering a pointed contrast to the sometimes po-faced earnestness of the Woodstock era.
