The Green & White travel to local rival Monmouth on Saturday, September 13 at 1:00 pm.

The Panthers led by a count of 14-3 and extended the lead to 27-3 at halftime. After the teams played a scoreless third quarter the Panthers punched across another score in the fourth quarter in fashioning the fi nal score of 34-3.

Three Seahawks Named to 2014 Preseason All- NEC Team, Wagner Picked 5th

Somerset, NJ – Wagner was picked fi fth in the 2014 Northeast Confer- ence (NEC) Preseason Coaches Poll, while fi fth-year senior punter A.J. Firestone (Mercersburg, PA/Mercersburg/Penn St.), fi fth-year senior center David Fredrickson (Staten Island, NY/Poly Prep), and fi fth-year senior tight end Bryant Watts (Burlington, NJ/Florence), were named to the 27-man 2014 Preseason All-NEC Team, the league offi ce announced today via the “2014 NEC Football Head Coaches Kickoff Hangout.”

Defending champion Sacred Heart was chosen fi rst in this year’s poll with six fi rst-place votes, followed by Duquesne, which received one fi rst-place vote. Robert Morris was picked to fi nish in third place, fol- lowed by Central Connecticut, Wagner, Bryant and Saint Francis U.

Firestone is coming off a 2013 campaign that saw him earn First-Team All-NEC honors after averaging 41.0 yards on 28 punts, with a long of 52, and three punts measuring more than 50 yards. In addition, the strong- legged Keystone State native and Penn St. transfer had four touchbacks, fi ve fair catches, and fi ve punts downed inside the 20-yard line. He played a key role in Wagner’s season-ending 10-7 win at Saint Francis U (11/16) when he punted seven times for a 45.2-yards, pinning the Red Flash inside its own 20-yard line twice. For his efforts in that victory, Firestone was named NEC Special Teams Player of the Week.

The 6-2, 290-pound Fredrickson is a productive local product who earned the starting center spot in 2011 preseason camp and has gone on to start the next 35 games, including all 11 games last season, which came on the heels of the 13 games he started during Wagner’s 2012 NEC Title run. Cerebral and physical, the left-handed Fredrickson, who began his collegiate career at Idaho St. before transferring back home, has displayed both consistency and durability throughout his Seahawk career and is one of the unquestioned leaders of the Seahawk offense.

A physical specimen at 6-5, 255 pounds, Watts is a physically-gifted athlete and a huge target, who runs extremely well and has a chance to be one of the elite tight ends in the NEC. In ad- dition to being a potentially dangerous receiver, Watts uses his strength and wide frame to gain leverage at the point of attack, which allows him to be an effective blocker. Watts enters his fi nal season with 30 games of his experience under his belt, with 11 starts, and has nine career receptions for 99 yards.

“We have a lot of people back from a team that had a lot of young kids last season that didn’t have a lot of success, and I think the returning players now know just how hard it is to win,” said Wagner head coach Walt Hameline, one of just seven active Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) coaches with 200 or more wins who brings a career record of 216-135-2 (.615) into the 2014 campaign.

“After going through a good spring and a good summer program, along with a weight program that has brought about confi dence and made our guys bigger and stronger, added to that is the game experience they now have under their belts,” added Hameline. “I feel really good about this group.”

The Seahawks, who return seven starters on both sides of the ball, will open the 2014 season on Saturday, August 30 at Georgetown in the fi rst of four straight road contests. In week two, Wagner, will travel to Florida International on September 6, marking the third consecutive season the Seahawks will face a Football Bowl Championship Subdivision team. Wagner opened the 2012 season at Florida Atlantic and played at Syracuse last season.

In week three, the Green & White will make the short trek to West Long Branch, NJ to meet former Northeast Conference (NEC) foe Monmouth on September 13 before capping its four- game, season-opening road stretch in the fi rst night game of the season at Lafayette in a 6:00 pm start on September 27.

Wagner opens its 2014 home calendar on October 4 by hosting Division II member Alderson Broaddus College in a 6:00 pm kickoff under the lights at Hameline Field. On October 11, the Seahawks begin NEC play with a home date vs. Saint Francis U as Wagner alternates home and away games throughout the NEC campaign.

Following a bye week, the Seahawks travel to Central Connecticut on October 25 before hosting Sacred Heart on November 1. Wagner is at Robert Morris on November 8, returns home to face Duquesne on November 15, before rounding out the 2014 regular season at Bryant on November 22.

Seahawk fans will be able to get their fi rst glimpse of the 2014 squad in action on Saturday, August 16 at 11:00 a.m.in the annual Green & White Game, which is free of charge, which will be followed by a barbecue that will cost just $10.00.

2014 NEC Football Preseason Coaches’ Poll 1. Sacred Heart (6) 2. Duquesne (1) 3. Robert Morris 4. Central Connecticut 5. WAGNER 6. Bryant 7. Saint Francis U

First place votes in parentheses (). Faccone Named Preseason Second-Team All-American By The Sports Network

Philadelphia, PA – Wagner senior long-snapper Phil Faccone (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) has been named to The Sports Network Preseason All-American Second-Team, it was an- nounced today as Faccone becomes one of fi ve players from Northeast Conference (NEC) to be tabbed a Preseason All-American.

In addition to Faccone, the other four NEC student-athletes who earned Preseason All-American accolades from The Sports Network include Central Connecticut running back Rob Hollomon (First Team), a pair of players who helped lead Sacred Heart to the 2013 NEC championship - defensive tackle Troy Moore (First Team) and running back Keshaudas Spence – along with Robert Morris punt returner Antwan Eddie.

Faccone’s latest honor comes on the heels of his earning 2013 Third-Team All-American honors by The Sports Network, following a season where the two-year starter graded out at 100 percent on his snaps while handling the bulk of the duties for the Seahawk fi eld goal, extra point and punt teams. The accuracy and consistency displayed by Faccone last season helped a pair of Seahawk kickers, fi fth-year senior David Lopez (Plantation, FL/American Heritage) and junior Bryan Maley (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak), convert a perfect 20-of-20 extra-points attempts.

In 2013, Lopez was successful on 9-of-12 fi eld goal attempts in eight games, despite missing three games with a sprained ankle, en route to earning First-Team All-Northeast Confer- ence (NEC) honors. In the three games Lopez missed, Maley nailed 3-of-4 fi eld goals, including a pressure-packed game-winning 45-yard boot with four seconds to play in the 23-20 victory at eventual NEC Champion Sacred Heart on October 5.

There are three components that go into any successful fi eld goal or extra-point try - the snap, the hold, and the kick itself. For Wagner the past two years, the holding duties have been manned fl awlessly by senior A.J. Firestone (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg), who, in the latter part of the 2013 season, doubled as the Seahawks’ punter and went on to earn First-Team All-NEC honors.

Firestone averaged 41.9 yards per punt, with a long of 52 yards, had fi ve punts downed inside the 20-yard line, another fi ve that were fair caught, and launched three 50-yard plus boots with a high of 52. None of the success attained in 2013 by Wagner kickers and punters could have occurred without reliable snaps from the 5-9, 195-pound Faccone.

“Number one, Phil has a great work ethic and it’s that work ethic that has led to his consistency,” said Wagner head coach Walt Hameline. “He has a great mindset for the position. He’s calm, level-headed and he works at it.”

While most fans may believe that snapping for fi eld goals and extra points is harder than for punts, just the opposite is true according to Seahawk special teams coach Ryan Fullen.

“Long-snapping on punts is harder. With a punt, the long-snapper has to deliver a 14-yard snap and then get down the fi eld and play a role in coverage,” said Fullen. “Phil has done a great job for us for two years handling both roles, with punts and on kicks.

“When he arrived three years ago, you would not have thought he was a Division I athlete but he really worked himself into being a top long-snapper and contributor to our program,” Fullen added. “He’s lost weight, he’s put the time in, and he works at his craft. I’m thrilled that his efforts continue to be recognized because Phil works his tail off and cares a ton.”

Faccone’s combination of scholarly work in the classroom and community-minded spirit, have allowed him to be nominated to the 2014 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®. One of the sport’s premier service honors, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® shines a spotlight on the positive, off-the-fi eld impact that a select group of student-athletes has on their communities.

A three-year member of NEC Academic Honor Roll, Faccone holds a 3.74 GPA while majoring in sociology with a minor in government/politics. He has directed and/or participated in a host of several community service initiatives, including Wagner’s Annual Bone Marrow Registry Drive and the Crescent Beach Restoration Project, which aids one of the many Staten Island communities devastated by Superstorm Sandy in October, 2012. He, most recently, took part in Lauren’s First and Goal Camp (LFG) at Lafayette College, a non-profi t organization started in 2004 by John and Marianne Loose in honor of their daughter, Lauren, a 17-year-old pediatric brain tumor survivor. Since its inception, LFG has raised more than $1 million toward its mission to provide fi nancial support for brain tumor research and cancer services.

Faccone was also recently-elected President of Omicron Delta Kappa, a National Leadership Honor Society that recognizes achievement in a myriad of areas (Scholarship, Athletics, Campus or Community Service, Social or Religious Activities and Campus Government, Journalism, Speech and the Mass Media, and Creative & Performing Arts). He is also the Vice-President of Community Service for Wagner College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a committee comprised of student- athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. 2014 Wagner Roster No. Name Cl. GAME 1 Wagner 21, Georgetown 3 August 30, 2014 Washington, DC

Washington, DC – Senior quarterback Brian Gehring (Tigard, OR/Tigard/Laney JC) completed 13-of-19 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown, junior running back Otis Wright (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Dillard) rushed for 74 yards on 23 carries, and senior safety Daquan Cooper (Philadelphia, PA/George Washington/Temple) led a dominating defensive effort with fi ve tackles, as Wagner earned a 21-3 win at Georgetown in the season opener for both teams.

The Green & White offense was sharp early as Gehring directed a crisp 14-play, 80-yard drive that took 7:12 on its opening possession. The march was capped by a 20-yard TD strike from Gehring to senior wide receiver Anthony Carrington (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) to make it 7-0 with 4:43 left in the opening quarter. For Gehring, who saw action in fi ve games during his fi rst season on Grymes Hills in 2013, it was his fi rst career scoring pass while Carrington collected his sixth career touchdown reception.

The Seahawks had a golden opportunity to add to their lead when junior linebacker Matt Barnett (Washington Township, NJ/Paul VI) stripped quarterback Kyle Nolan of the ball and recovered the fumble at the Hoya three-yard line with 8:08 left in the half. But Gehring’s fi rst-down pass was intercepted by defensive back Garrett Powers at the goal line and returned 24 yards.

Then, late in the fi rst half, the Hoyas marched 42 yards in 10 plays as kicker Henry Darmstadter booted a 35-yard fi eld goal with 0:00 on the clock to cut the defi cit to 7-3 at halftime. Moments earlier, Darmstadter had missed a 40-yard fi eld goal attempt but Wagner was called for offsides. On the re-try from fi ve yards closer, Darmstadter nailed the 35-yarder.

Following an exchange of punts to open the second half, Wagner put together its second sustained touchdown drive. Taking over at the Seahawk 33, Gehring got things started by connecting with Preseason All-NEC senior tight end Bryant Watts (Burlington, NJ/Florence) for an 11-yard pickup. The 6-4,, 205-pound signal-caller then picked up nine yards with his legs to move the ball into Hoya territory.

A pair of completions to senior wide receiver Ralph Greene (Tigard, OR/Tigard) of seven and nine yards, respectively, were followed by fi ve consecutive rushes by Wright, the last being a one-yard touchdown jaunt. The 15-play, 67-yard drive took 7:02 of the clock and staked the Seahawks to a 14-3 with 4:35 remaining in the third quarter.

The Wagner defense, meanwhile, continued to fl ex its muscle, limiting Georgetown to 13 yards on fi ve plays on its ensuing possession, forcing the Hoyas to punt the ball for the sixth time. Senior Steve Rene (Brooklyn, NY/Canarsie/Syracuse) gave the Seahawks excellent fi eld position with a 19-yard punt return out to the Wagner 45.

From there, it took Wagner just 4:15 to march 55 yards on a nine-play drive that bridged the third and fourth quarters, culminating with a fi ve-yard TD run by Wright who received an option pitch from Gehring before racing around right Box Score (Final) end. This score, which came at the 13:17 mark of the fourth quarter, extended the WAGNER vs Georgetown (Aug 30, 2014 at Washington, D. Seahawk lead to 21-3, effectively putting the game out of reach.
