Open Date: ROBERT MORRIS NEC Defensive Player of the Week FIDEL OKOYE, WAGNER So., DL, 6-2, 285 lbs., Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown Okoye spearheaded the Seahawks’ defensive effort in a road win over NEC rival Sacred Heart. Helping Wagner snap a four- game losing streak and knock Sacred Heart from the ranks of the unbeaten, Okoye recorded seven tackles, including 1.5 TFL, and made a key fumble recovery in the 23-20 last-minute victory. With the host Pioneers looking to cut into a 17-3 Wagner lead and staring at a 2nd-and-8 situation from the Seahawks’ 16-yard line, the 6-foot-2 Okoye recovered Greg Moore’s fumble to squelch the SHU threat. The sophomore lineman made six of his seven stops on run plays, limiting the ball carrier to a 1-yard gain or less on five occasions. Sacred Heart owned the nation’s eighth-ranked rushing offense, averaging 276.0 yards per game, heading into Week 6, but Okoye and the Seahawks limited the Pioneers to 113 yards on the ground. Only four of Sacred Heart’s 14 first downs came on rushes.

NEC Special Teams Player of the Week BRYAN MALEY, WAGNER Jr., PK, 5-10, 175 lbs., Eagle River, AK/Chugiak Maley connected on the first three field goal attempts of his collegiate career, including two 45-yarders, to lift Wagner to a road win over previously-unbeaten Sacred Heart. His 45-yard conversion with 00:04 remaining broke a 20-20 tie and gave the defending NEC champs their first conference win of the season. Filling in for an injured David Lopez, an all-NEC selection who has converted the second-most field goals in league history, Maley flourished in the spotlight and totaled 11 points in the dramatic road win that snapped the Seahawks’ four-game slide. He also handled the kickoff duties with three of his six boots resulting in touchbacks. All three of Maley’s field goal attempts came in the final minute of quarter. He extended Wagner’s lead to 10-3 by nailing a 32-yarder with 00:36 left in the first half. The junior kicker’s first 45-yard make came with #NECFB PRESEASON COACHES’ POLL 00:44 left in the third quarter and bumped the lead to 20-3.

He tallied four or more tackles in seven games last parentheses (). season, highlighted by six-tackle contests against Monmouth (9/15) and Eastern Washington (12/1). A highlight of his season came in the stirring come-from-behind win over Holy Cross (11/10) when he recorded a 66-yard fumble recovery. Dieudonne is one of Wagner’s four captains.

Diavid Fredrickson is a a 6-2, 290-pound Staten Island native who earned the starting center spot in 2011 preseason camp and has gone on to start the next 24 games, including all 13 during Wagner’s 2012 NEC Title run. Cerebral and physical, the left-handed Fredrickson has displayed both consistency and durability throughout his Seahawk career and is one of the unquestioned leaders of the Seahawk offense. Fredrickson is one of Wagner’s four captains.

David Lopez is one of the top kickers in Seahawk history and returns as a fi fth-year season having converted 35-of-56 over his accomplished career. The 35 made fi eld goals rank tied for second in Wagner history while his 100 made PAT’s rank fi fth. In helping lead Wagner to the 2012 NEC title, Lopez connected on 16-of-21 fi eld goal attempts, a 76.2 percentage, with a long of 51. In fi eld goal tries of 39 yards or less, Lopez was 11-of-12. He was also successful on 32-of-35 PATs. As a sophomore in 2010, Lopez earned Second-Team All-NEC honors.

Bryant Watts is a physically-gifted athlete and a huge target at 6-5, 250 who runs extremely well. In addition to being an effective receiver, Watts uses his strength and wide frame to gain leverage at the point of attack, which allows him to be an effective blocker. In 2012, he appeared in all 13 games, starting in eight, and caught six passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns. He recorded career highs with three receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown to key a 31-21 win over Bryant (9/29)

Dominiquee Williams has evolved into one of the household names in the NEC as well as on the national stage and enters the 2013 season with 3,308 career rushing yards, which ranks fourth in the Seahawk all-time annals. The strong, agile 5-9, 205-pounder rushed for 1,228 yards last season, placing him seventh on the school’s all-time single-season list, just 10 yards behind the sixth-highest mark of 1,338 that he gained in 2011. A First- Team All-NEC choice in 2012, his 105.6 yards per game in 2012 rushing ranked third in the NEC through the end of the regular season, as did his 133.3 all-purpose yards per game.teams to 24 teams. Williams is one of Wagner’s four captains. Williams Becomes Wagner’s First Three-Time Captain, Joined by Dieudonne, Ortiz, Fredricksons 2013 FB Captains

Fifth-year senior running back Dominique Williams (Bridgton, NJ/ Milford Academy) has become the first player in Wagner history to be voted a team captain for a third time and will be joined by red- shirt juniors Jarrett Dieudonne (Fort Lauderdale, FL/ Dillard/ Purdue), David Fredrickson (Staten Island, NY/ Poly Prep/Idaho St.), and Yamir Ortiz (River Vale, NJ/ Pascack Valley), as captains of the 2013 Seahawks.

Williams was first named a captain in 2011and became the 14th Seahawk to ever be a two-time captain last season in 2012, and now stands alone as the sole three-time captain in the 83-year history of Wagner football which began in 1927. For Dieudonne, Fredrickson and Ortiz, this marks their first season as captains.

One of five Seahawks named to the 2013 Preseason All-NEC team, Williams has evolved into one of the household names, both in the NEC as well as on the national stage. He enters the 2013 season with 3,308 career rushing yards, which ranks fourth in the Seahawk all-time annals. The strong, agile 5-9, 205-pounder rushed for 1,228 yards last season, placing him seventh on the school’s all-time single-season list, just 10 yards behind the sixth-highest mark of 1,338 that he gained in 2011. A member of te 2012 College Sports Journal All-American Team and a First-Team All-NEC choice in 2012, his 105.6 yards per game rushing last season ranked third in the NEC through the end of the regular season, as did his 133.3 all- purpose yards per game.

Dieudonne is a known commodity in Northeast Conference (NEC) circles as he is a returning First-Team All-NEC performer who was recently named to the 2013 Preseason All-NEC Team. A year ago, he contributed mightily to the Seahawks’ 2012 NEC Championship as the multi-skilled 6-, 190-pound cornerback recorded multiple tackles in 12 of the Seahawks 13 games, tying for first on the team with three interceptions. He tallied four or more tackles in seven games last season, highlighted by six-tackle contests against Monmouth (9/15) and Eastern Washington (12/1). A highlight of his season came in the stirring come-from-behind win over Holy Cross (11/10) when he recorded a 66-yard fumble recovery.

Another First-Team All-NEC choice, Fredrickson is a local product who earned the starting center spot in 2011 preseason camp and has gone on to start the next 24 games, including all 13 during Wagner’s 2012 NEC Title run. Cerebral and physi- cal, the left-handed Fredrickson has displayed both consistency and durability throughout his Seahawk career and the 6-2, 290-pounder is one of the unquestioned team leaders both on the field and in the locker room.

Ortiz has been a somewhat under the radar-type player who quietly contributed to the success of Wagner’s recent veteran- laden teams. In 2012, the 6-1, 240-pound defensive end developed into a playmaking force in helping the Seahawks capture the NEC Championship. Now entering his fourth season in the program, Ortiz is poised for a potential breakout season in 2013 after recording 22 tackles and three sacks while starting all 13 games during Wagner’s title run.
