I’d like to express my personal thanks and bon voyage to Public Works Director Earnie Via who is retiring this month. Earnie has done an exceptional job of managing his Please Practice Extra Caution department, and his steady leadership and depth of knowledge was always in evidence. He is following his dream in the Mornings & the Afternoons and moving on to become a full-time dog trainer. He will be greatly missed.

This month features lots of great events on our streets and in our parks. Sample all kinds of tasty offerings at the annual Taste of Kennesaw on Saturday, September 12. The fourth annual celebration of all things canine, our Paws in the Park Kennesaw event hosted by Keep Kennesaw Beautiful, takes place at Swift-Cantrell Park from 9 am – noon on Saturday, September 19. On Saturday, September 26, choose from several interesting activities – Worldwide Day of Play at Swift-Cantrell Park, the Volcom Am Contest at Kennesaw Skatepark, the fall plant sale and butterfly release at Smith-Gilbert Gardens, Smithsonian Free Day at the Southern Museum, and the DEA’s prescription drug “Take Back” initiative hosted by the Kennesaw Police Department at the CVS pharmacy at 2782 Cobb Parkway. Be a part of the tradition of excellence! Join us for the 8th Annual North Cobb High School Warrior Way 5K trail run/walk on Saturday, September 19th. Celebrate a community that works and plays together!

The Warrior Way begins at 7:30 am at the front of North Cobb High School at Blue Springs Road, and runs down Old Hwy. 41 to Nowlin Rd and then enters the NCHS trails behind Awtrey Middle School. Runners will exit the trails going back onto Nowlin Rd then onto Old Hwy 41 to finish on the NCHS track. Expect a well-marked trail full of exciting turns and hills. The trail portion is not suitable for strollers. The 1K Fun Run starts at 8:30 am. All proceeds benefit NCHS Cross Country. You can register for the race online or by printing a registration form that you can mail by going to http://www.northcobbcrosscountry.org/warrior-way-5k.html. Take the challenge, and come out to run a 5K the Warrior Way!
