I think that’s the biggest misconception about me.” The brunette beauty is still adjusting to her success. But on the other hand, I did and do want to base them in Texas. “My mother lives about 25 minutes away so I get to see her, and the grandkids get to see her, every weekend instead of twice a year. “I also have two brothers who live there, so we see family much more often than we used to and that’s important to me, especially as everyone is getting older. My mother is 82.” The 44-year-old actor - who dramatically lost a lot of weight for his role in the Academy Award-winning film ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ - admitted that he loved indulging in Texan food at home. He added to Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “Plus I like Texas, I like the space, I like the latitude, I like the people, I like the food, I like the common sense, I like the creativity. I just like it.” And the devoted dad admitted he “always” wanted to be a parent. He said: “It’s one of the things I’ve always wanted to be. A source told Variety.com that the Australian rapper, 24, and her LA Lakers star beau paid $3.45 million for the lavish abode, which also includes a guesthouse with its own kitchen and balcony. The main house boasts a formal living room, seven full bathrooms, a two-car garage, an open-plan kitchen, swimming pool, sports zone and a scenic backyard with a fire pit and barbecue area. Selena decided to sell the house after a family member spotted Juan Garcia in her garden in January and called the police. He was arrested after telling officers he was there “to see the singer in person” and was later sentenced to 120 days in Los Angeles County Jail for trespassing and ordered to stay at least 150 yards away from the ‘Come & Get It’ hitmaker for three years. Professional basketball player Nick recently confirmed he and the ‘Black Widow’ had bought a new house and hinted they are close to getting engaged. He said: “Me and Iggy just bought a house. We’ve been getting really close lately. As one of the newest members of an elite group of emcees and rappers within the hip-hop genre, Nicki Minaj displays her talent for theatrics by personifying some of her favorite alter egos. While other female emcees (femcees) have appeared throughout pop culture such as Lil’ Kim and Lauryn Hill, Nicki Minaj arguably is the first to obtain this level of fame and notoriety. The release of her debut album Pink Friday in 2010 was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, making her the first artist to have seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 at once (Iandoli). There is no doubt that Nicki Minaj’s alter egos, especially Harajuku Barbie, have helped establish her as a powerful femcee and have given her a lasting place in hip- hop history. Throughout Minaj’s time in the spotlight, her audience has seen her morph from one character to the next, all adorned with different outfits, different tonalities, and different postures.

THE DERAILMENT OF FEMINISM: A QUALITATIVE STUDY OF GIRL EMPOWERMENT AND THE POPULAR MUSIC ARTIST A Thesis by Jodie Christine Simon Master of Arts, Wichita State University, 2010 Bachelor of Arts. A mentor in every sense of the word, Jodie Hertzog embodies the very nature of adviser; her council was very much appreciated through the course of my study. v ABSTRACT “Girl Power!” is a message that parents raising young women in today’s media- saturated society should be able to turn to with a modicum of relief from the relentlessly harmful messages normally found within popular music. But what happens when we turn a critical eye toward the messages cloaked within this supposedly feminist missive? A close examination of popular music associated with girl empowerment reveals that many of the messages found within these lyrics are frighteningly just as damaging as the misogynistic, violent, and explicitly sexual ones found in the usual fare of top 100 Hits.
