This book is great because it introduces the reader to several of the main players in the Star Wars universe. You meet Kyp Durron a padawan in this book who like Anakin is very tempted by the dark side due to his past. Durron was found by Han Solo on the prison colony on Kessel. You also get to Star Wars: Jedi Academy - Dark Apprentice Exar Kuhn and find out why he was so feared thousand of years ago by the entire jedi oreder. This is a must read and you will need the other two books for the story to make sense. It was published in by Bantam Spectrum books. Kevin J. The story continues to follow Luke Skywalker as he continues to teach his first group of apprentices at his newly-formed Jedi Academy on Yavin IV. Meanwhile, Admiral Daala of the Imperial fleet mounts a massive campaign against the New Republic, using guerilla warfare to strike. The Admiral also has a Death Star prototype Star Wars: Jedi Academy - Dark Apprentice her disposal. Daala is not the only threat we find in this story. There is also a traitor among the New Republic forces, who could possibly pose a danger to Leia and her son Anakin. Dark Apprentice is a strong second act in Anderson's Jedi Academy Trilogy with a cliffhanger ending that sets up for the conclusion in Book Three Champions of the Force. Altogether, Dark Apprentice is a thoroughly fascinating read, and possibly the best of the three novels in the Jedi Academy Trilogy. Outside in the jungle, large birds shrieked as they fought for their insect breakfasts. As he did every morning before going to Uncle Luke's lessons, Jacen fed and took stock of all the bizarre and exotic creatures he had collected out in the unexplored jungles on Yavin 4. He liked to gather new pets. The far wall was stacked with bins and cages, transparent display cages and bubbling aquariums. Many of the containers were ingenious contraptions invented by his mechanically inclined sister. He appreciated Jaina's inventions, though he couldn't understand why she was more interested in the cages themselves than the creatures they contained. One cage rattled with two clamoring stintarils, tree-dwelling rodents with protruding eyes and long jaws filled with sharp teeth.
