LODGE EVENTS 4 Angela and I attended the Meet and Greet Brunch for newly OSIA EVENTS 5 elected New York State OSIA President Robert Ferrito. He is a good man, he will be working to increase membership using BUON COMPLEANNO 6 creative ways to attract new members for the future of the order. Please read his letter on page 5. Last names Messina & Gucciardo. There is also a village, Messina, I wonder if my Grandmas family lived there at one time, and traveled across Italy to Castelvetrano. Do you have ancestors from Sicily? ...Angela Most restaurants are open evenings, and many serve lunch too. In Sicily the luncheon hour starts around 1:00 PM, and dinner is usually served from around 8:00. Many restaurants are closed Mondays, and trattorias, less formal restaurants which don't always serve evening meals, are usually closed Sundays. Pizzerias usually serve dinner but not lunch. RESERVATIONS are always advised, and for RESTAURANTS IN THE COUNTRY they're required. To clarify a few often misused Italian terms describing various kinds of eateries you'll encounter in Sicily: • Ristorante - a rather formal restaurant; expect uniformed waiters and a good but pricey menu. • Trattoria - a less formal restaurant, though a trattoria meal can cost as much as one in a ristorante. • Osteria - a small restaurant, in theory less formal than a trattoria and less expensive, offering a limited menu. • Pizzeria - a restaurant specialized in a wide selection of pizzas; typically open only in evenings, some pizzerias serve pasta. • Polleria - a stand or small shop that serves chicken on a skewer, usually as a take-away food. • Rosticceria - a stand that sells arancine (rice balls), french fries and other fried "street food." • Gelateria - an ice cream parlor, which also serves various drinks. • - a pastry shop, which may also serve ice cream. We are very lucky to have such a compatible group. Che ci siano telescopi e lenti focali nel loro antro privato o vecchi arnesi di un cinema che non c’è più, proiettori, bobine da 35 millimetri, manifesti d’epoca. Due ore sono il tempo minimo per dirsi qualcosa di significativo e confermarsi nell’idea che il cinema, come qualunque altra mania, ha salvato un sacco di uomini dal baratro della malinconia. Tornatore si diffonde con generosa prudenza, non diffida dell’interlocutore ma delle parole, che scivolano spesso là dove lui non vorrebbe mai scivolare, l’enfasi, il luogo comune, la sciatta ripetizione. Sta finendo di montare Baarìa - La porta del vento, il suo ultimo, molto atteso film. Mi lascia sbirciare uno spot di tre minuti.
