Do you have ancestors from Sicily? ...Angela Most restaurants are open evenings, and many serve lunch too. In Sicily the luncheon hour starts around 1:00 PM, and dinner is usually served from around 8:00. Many restaurants are closed Mondays, and trattorias, less formal restaurants which don't always serve evening meals, are usually closed Sundays. Pizzerias usually serve dinner but not lunch. RESERVATIONS are always advised, and for RESTAURANTS IN THE COUNTRY they're required. To clarify a few often misused Italian terms describing various kinds of eateries you'll encounter in Sicily: • Ristorante - a rather formal restaurant; expect uniformed waiters and a good but pricey menu. • Trattoria - a less formal restaurant, though a trattoria meal can cost as much as one in a ristorante. • Osteria - a small restaurant, in theory less formal than a trattoria and less expensive, offering a limited menu. • Pizzeria - a restaurant specialized in a wide selection of pizzas; typically open only in evenings, some pizzerias serve pasta. • Polleria - a stand or small shop that serves chicken on a skewer, usually as a take-away food. • Rosticceria - a stand that sells arancine (rice balls), french fries and other fried "street food." • Gelateria - an ice cream parlor, which also serves various drinks. • - a pastry shop, which may also serve ice cream. These are the lovely thank you letters we received. Lodge Brother Larry Filippino, recommended The Independence Fund, this is a new charity for us. Last year, St Judes was recommended by Lodge Sister Luisa Potenza, and we donated to them again this year. MY SUMMER POEM- ANGELA FERRAGOSTO or Assumption Day, is an Italian national holiday celebrated on August 15. FREE SENIOR I.D. PROGRAM – Presented by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department- CONNETQUOT LIBRARY THURSDAY AUGUST 17th 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 760 Ocean Ave Bohemia Recently, it has been brought to my attention that we are a lodge not only of members, but of friends. As we go through the trials, tribulations, ups and downs of our lives, we are intertwined inside & outside of “Lodge Functions”. Whether at a meeting or a movie, dinner, chat on the phone and FaceBook or see each other through difficult times, we know that we are here for one another. We are very lucky to have such a compatible group. Often Bob & I are asked, “How is your Lodge doing?” Our reply is, “we are doing great!” Thank you, for making this possible and for being the NICE PEOPLE YOU ARE, IT DOES NOT GO UNNOTICED…Angela thank you for contributing to this Newsletter, helping to make it better and better. Sincerely, Editor Angela Grazie per aver contribuito a questa Newsletter, contribuendo a renderlo migliore e meglio. Cordiali saluti, Editor Angela .
