UNIVERSITY OVERVIEW

Wenzhou-Kean University is a Sino-American cooperative university with independent legal personality. On November 16th 2011, the Ministry of Education approved Wenzhou University to cooperate with Kean University in the United States to prepare for the establishment of Wenzhou-Kean University, and formally approved On March 31, 2014. The school was then listed in the achievement of the fifth annual U.S.- High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE) as the only education project in Zhejiang Province of China in July.

The establishment of Wenzhou-Kean University has been cordially concerned by the Central leadership and highly valued by Party Committees and governments at all levels. On May 8, 2006, Chairman Xi Jinping personally attended the signing ceremony of the school held at Kean University in the United States and made an important speech. As the successful province-state cooperative project between Zhejiang Province and New Jersey, its establishment was also marked as one of the most important sino-foreign cooperation to expand the opening up and reformation of the education by China’s Ministry of Education. Chairman Xi Jinping also affirmed that Wenzhou-Kean University was "running well at present" at the third China-US Provincial Governors Forum on September 23, 2015.

The school is committed to figuring out different development directions for different students, introducing and drawing lessons from the resources, ideas and models of American high-quality universities, closely combining China's national conditions and the needs of regional economic and cultural development, to build an international university with a student-oriented, innovative, inclusive, and distinctive characteristics at the world-class education level. The goal of the school's talent training is to train international talents with global vision, international rules and affairs, as well as

IV

innovative, creative and pioneering abilities by integrating the different countries’ education and teaching methods. In the path of the development, it starts from a teaching-oriented university, takes the development of high-level international cooperative research as a breakthrough, pays equal attention to the teaching and scientific research, and gradually develops into a research-teaching university with a world-class education level. In terms of value orientation, we adhere to the public welfare principle in the running as a non-profit school, from which neither China nor the United States will make a profit from it.

There will be 5,000 full-time students in the near future and 8,500 in the middle period in the school, it mainly supplies undergraduate education for the students while postgraduate education is moderately developed. The professional major groups will mostly revolve economics&management, technology&mathematics, art design, education&psychology, health&rehabilitation science and etc.

At present, the school enrollment shows a good vision with high-quality student resource. For this year, the average score of the liberal examinees enrolled in the first batch of university recruitment was 20+ pionts over cut-off line of the province, and the one of science examinees was above 30+ points. A full of 385 students of the province were enrolled in the new college entrance recruitment, all of them exceeded the undergraduate line by an average of ~100 points in the examination.

Presently, there are ~2000 students including 15 of international students, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan students and exchange students from Kean University, and ~100 full-time foreign teachers recruited by Kean University in the United States. The school is offering 11 majors comprising accounting, finance, English, computer science and technology, international business, marketing, visual communication design, management science and etc.

V

The courses are all small-class teaching in English, more than 90% of the courses and teachers are introduced and selected from Kean University with original textbooks from the U.S. and globally-recruited teachers.

After graduation, the graduates will be awarded double degrees of Kean University in the United States and Wenzhou-Kean University in China, and a diploma from Wenzhou-Kean University, which initially formed an American education model in accord with China's national conditions. At the moment, the school has already had about 400 graduates for last 2 years, and the initial employment rate reaches about 95%.

The campus is located at Liyi Street, Ouhai , Wenzhou city, a scenic and famous hometown of overseas Chinese, planning a coverage of 3,000 mu(1 mu≈666 ㎡), of which the construction of 1,059.4 mu and building area of 322,700 square meters implemented in the first phase, and the first allocation of 1.5 billion yuan has carried out the international bidding by Wenzhou People's Government holding the design concept of "Chinese-style layout with western-style architecture". We will strive to create a humanistic campus in which Chinese and American cultures blend, teachers and students learn from each other, and students grow independently, so as to create an ecological, intelligent and open space. Currently, 100,000 square meters areas have been completed and put into use in the first and second bidding; a modern and beautiful campus has begun to take shape while the rest are under construction in succession.

In order to speed up the integration of China and the United States and accumulate experience in running school, with the approval of China’s Ministry of Education, the students have been enrolled in the form of Sino-US cooperative Kean program since 2012 with a total of 204 students in majors of economics, English and computer science. In April 2013, the Ministry of Education approved to add new professions of

VI

international economy and trade and recruited 240 students totally for the four majors, all of them were from the first batch of the national college entrance recruitment of China. The project has progressed smoothly and achieved remarkable results, which has been fully affirmed by Educational Administrative Department and all sectors of the community. In November 2013, it successfully passed the relevant evaluation of MSCHE (Middle States Commission on Higher Education). After the official establishment in March 2014, the school recruited students independently.

Wenzhou-Kean University will fully absorb the advanced teaching staff construction concept and management model of American universities to provide strong talent support for the international running of the school, and build a strict teacher appointment system and people-oriented HR management system to attract&select global talents according to the standards of world-class universities. At the same time, the school will also set up a scientific and reasonable evaluation system for teachers and scientific research supporting their career&profession’s development. The school now has about 250 Chinese and foreign staff including 100 full-time foreign teachers, most of whom have international teaching background and doctorate degree. The school will actively explore the characteristics of Sino-foreign cooperation, and form a modern university system with common social participation, independent running schools under the law, and scientific management.

The Council is the supreme decision-making body of the school, which is jointly composed of China and the United States aspects. The school adheres to the headmaster-in-charge system beneath the leadership of the Council, insists on academic autonomy and professors running the school, and to gradually establish a streamlined, flat and efficient internal management organization, as well as academic institutions full of innovative consciousness and entrepreneurial spirit.

VII

Wenzhou-Kean University is to create a first-class campus with first-class teaching resource, scientific research of service&management system combining all advantages of the two alma maters and become a world-class university. The school is also a successful representation of educational cooperation between China and the United States.

PART 2: MEASURES FOR EMPLOYMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

1. CAREER ORIENTATION

The university has held the graduation mobilization meeting for graduates of 2019 in the beginning of their senior year, which conveyed the current employment situation, guided graduates on how to apply for the further study abroad, the domestic postgraduate entrance examination and civil service examination more efficiently, arranged job fairs and lectures at campus, explained the use of all kinds of graduate documents, informed graduates of the urgency and importance of job application, and encouraged graduates to complete all kinds of work of further study or job application as soon as possible. The career orientation is open for the students in the whole semester year.

Apart from the career instructions to the graduates, the school has also held on-campus job fair in autumn and internship job fair in spring for them, so that students can communicate face-to-face with enterprise recruiters, get exercise in the process of communication, and win more employment opportunities for themselves.

We also arranged overseas study consultation week and invited off-campus overseas study agents to provide students with one-to-one free consultation opportunities, let students know more about overseas study application skills, encouraging students to struggle for their goals.

2. CAREER OPPORTUNITY DEVELOPMENT

School-enterprise cooperation brings more employment and internship opportunities for the graduates, such as a number of high-end financial institutions including Industrial

26

and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of China, Wenzhou Bank, China Everbright Bank Wenzhou Branch, China Merchants Bank Wenzhou Branch, etc. Students majoring in psychology can take turns to practice in different departments such as outpatient clinic and forensic psychology of the hospital, which provides a valuable platform for students' knowledge practice and application.

In April 2019, our school has established a special teaching and training base in Wenzhou Branch of Grant Thornton International Ltd to achieve complementary advantages and mutual benefit between business faculty and accounting firms, which is an important measure to carry out comprehensive quality practical education for students.

The school has contacted various external institutions to broaden the channels of employment actively. In the large-scale on-campus job fair held in the autumn of 2018 and the spring of 2019, more than 50 outstanding enterprises from industries of finance, sales, banking, e-commerce and other fields were invited to meet the employment needs of graduates in different majors. And the trained students of majors in economics, finance, accounting, international trade and marketing are employed by the financial institutions regularly.

3. HUMANISTIC EMPLOYMENT SERVICE

The school has built multiple channels for shooting job opportunities for the graduates such as solving employment problems efficiently by on-line chatting group, pushing on-campus job recruitment news by email, updating links of enterprises recruitment and post-graduate application on WeChat official account and website. The student career development center of the school also has launched a one-to-one online reservation to help students with various difficulties in job-hunting and postgraduate studies, providing targeted answers to the specific questions.

27

The progress of students' job-hunting and further studies will be paid real-time attention at the beginning of the senior year, and the school will also communicate with students, convey the latest employment policies, remind students to arrange the time and submit the application materials related to recruitment and further study in a timely manner.

4. ENTREPRENEUSHIP GUIDANCE

Wenzhou Co-work Space was approved as municipal co-work space by Wenzhou Science&Technology Bureau in September 2017. The school has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Wenzhou Economic&Technological Development Zone to promote students' innovation and entrepreneurship, 18 outstanding entrepreneurs have been employed as school students' entrepreneurial mentors in the Economic Development Zone, and set up joint laboratories and innovation bases exchanging scientific research teams and students to carry out cooperation projects regularly. Besides the cooperation with the zones, the school has held a public welfare lecture salon at least once a week. All kinds of innovative and creative competitions were carried out in the school year such as the first Internet + Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition held in the first half of 2019, which attracted more than 600 participants.
