2018 € Euro Butterfly Pupae Catalogue 2018 € Euro Butterfly Pupae Catalogue To the Butterfly Keeper January 2018 2018 Butterfly Pupae Supplies Thank you for downloading our 2018 Euro pupae price list and order forms. After detailed negotiations with our suppliers we have managed to hold most of our prices to the same level as last year. The close working relationship we have with our Couriers has led to only a 5% increase in UPS costs to Europe, mainly due to fuel price increases. After many years we are discontinuing our Standard World Mix as we feel that the range of species offered is not broad enough to justify its inclusion in our catalogue. We are replacing it with an Old-World Mix where we will include species from The Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Tanzania and Kenya. As ever there are several ways to order. You can simply fill out the enclosed forms and post, fax or email them back to us. If you prefer to order from our weekly availability list, then we can email it to you if you provide us with your email address. Or you can find it at www.tropicalbutterflypupae.com We post the new list around 2pm UK time every Friday afternoon. Please be aware, our pupae sell out very quickly, so if you leave your order until the following week we cannot guarantee that we will be able to fulfil your specific order. A new feature of the list this year will be occasional sales of various species. These will appear when our suppliers have had a particularly good result with any one species and we intend to share the bounty with our customers. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any clarification or help with your orders. May we wish you all a happy New Year and every success for 2018. • Biosearch 2004 Report
Biosearch Nyika: Malawi 2004 Edited by Marianne J Overton FOREWORD Peter Overton It is ten years since the Biosearch Nyika project was first mooted and agreement with the Director of National Parks and Wildlife obtained for our exploration of the remoter parts of the Nyika National Park. Over this period the teams have focused mainly on the northern part of the park where patrolling has been very limited and our gathering of intelligence has been most helpful to the Nyika management. In 2004 we undertook the most challenging expedition to date, launched from the extreme north of the park at Uledi, a four-hour drive from Thazima. The team‟s first challenge was to cross the unbridged North Rukuru River with all their supplies. They then had to climb up the western escarpment of the Mpanda ridge to a point on the Mpero River, where they set up a Base Camp, from which to launch out on their surveys. The greatest achievement was to climb both Mpanda and Kawozya and discover the remote Bleak House, now derelict but offering stunning views over Lake Malawi and far beyond. At this point they could certainly claim to be in remote country since this old site is much talked about but very rarely seen by visitors. We have yet to have clear information about who built it, when and why. Perhaps it was a holiday „retreat‟ for Livingstonia or a staging post for missionaries who conducted business on the west of the Nyika National Park and into Zambia. In many ways this expedition was the pinnacle of logistical achievement.

Being additio~al notes and addenda to the groups dealt with in the Journal of the East Africa and Uganda Natural History Society, 1925-1935. INTRODUCTION. It is now some ten years since the first part of Volume 1 of the serial on the" Butterflies of Kenya and Uganda" appeared, and, as new material and additional observations have accumulated, it is con• sidered advisable to publish a special paper embodying this new data. For much of the new material, I am indebted to my friend T. H. E. Jackilon of Kitale, who has done, and is doing, such excellent work in his district and in Uganda. Reference will be made to the original notes as they appeared in the several numbers of the Journal, and to the species as dealt with in the Separata of VoL 1. Corrections to the letterpress have appeared in the Index to Vol. 6 of the Journal. The order followed will be that adopted in the Journal. Family DANAIDIDAE. Sub-family DANAININAE:Genus Melinda. MELINDA FORMOSA and MEROEDONIA. Ref. Op. cit. No. 21, pp. 31-32: Vol. 1, Sap. 1, pp. 10-11. The two representatives of this genus, hitherto considered two distinct species, overlap in their distribution, and in the area of contact, interbreed. Extensive material shows many intermediates. The area of overlap is from Lumbwa-Nandi to Elgon. As is well known, jormosa is the model for Papilio rex, and merce• donia for rex mimeticus, the Uganda race.
